The beer garden out front is perfect for hanging out, while the indoor food court--though a bit tucked away--opens up into a huge space filled with a variety of great food options. I tried The Duck Shed's Vietnamese wrap, which was packed with flavor, and the fish & chips, which were fresh and perfectly crispy. I believe that the name Mercato Metropolitano is for the retail area. It was open early matching the hours listed on yelp. The Food Hall itself opened at noon. As I remember it, there was a cheese monger (who also greeted us), cafe, and some fresh produce. There were also a few tables and chairs for folks to relax and enjoy their beverages and pastries. The man in the cafe, who made our latte was friendly and charming. He asked where my wife's family was from and then spoke some rudimentary Japanese with her. When a regular customer came in with his dog, Molly, the business owner sliced some meat and served it to Molly. It was obvious that while much of his business was probably transitory, he took the time to get to know his customers, even the K-9's. Oh yeah, and the latte was pretty good too! read more

Such an awesome find here in London. I think mostly locals come to this market here, but honestly here is where it is at. Decided to come to this place during dinner time and was surprised to find that there was not a whole lot of people there. Also it is open pretty late into the night. Inside there is a ton of options from freshly brewed beer to Italian styled pizza to ramen. There is a store to satisfy each craving. We ordered: - Ramen - It was okay, I thought it was way too sweet and the noodles were not able to absorb much of the broth. Did like the touch of nuttiness from the sesame seeds though. - Argentina Mixed Grill (Steak + Chorizo + Fries + Chimichurri Sauce) - This was actually so delicious! I really loved the texture of the chorizo as it melted in my mouth with a hint of spiciness. The drizzle of truffle olive oil was the perfect paring with the fries, who knew? Overall, a pretty good experience and a definite recommend if you are ever here in London. What a hidden gem. read more

Love the environment and offerings this market has tucked away in Elephant & Castle. A friend of mine met up with us here while I was on a quick stopover in London for its chill vibe and ultimately cheap(er) eats this side of the city has to offer. Immediately when you walk in, you are greeted with the sights and smells of different cuisine, friendly people, and ample seating for even larger parties. Many of the shops offer items to tantalize your savory and sweet sides. A couple also sell wine and beer for you to enjoy with your meal. After walking around the large market and checking out our options, I decided to go with Tortellino & Co. and tried their Tortelloni Pumpkin (£8.50) which was fantastic. Great amount of food and cheese to sprinkle over on top- perfect for sharing with colleagues who love a bit of pumpkin pasta in their life. My friend ordered a charcuterie plate nearby which had some fine meats and cheeses for us to nibble on, as well as a bubble and squeak. If you don't know what that is, I suggest you check it out! I'm so glad we came and spent the afternoon here. You don't need to go to overly populated spots to really enjoy a day out in London. I would highly recommend this market to any local or visitor. read more

This is one of my favourite spots in London because it's lesser known than other markets but packed with so many choices for any palate. With indoor and outdoor seating it's perfect any time of year. You can find food stalls from anywhere in the world: Spain, Italy, Japan, India, Greece, South America, North America, seafood, steaks, veggie options and even a grocery market. Cocktails served from a van and even a space themed cinema. Someone mentioned the market is really happening during Christmas but I have to say the summer vibe is fun. I revisit the Mercato monthly, and highly recommend it to others! It's a food market that's actually open for dinner! And on Sundays! The options here are fantastically varied. I typically grab a drink (each bar is different, with specialties!) while I peruse the food options. My go to drink is the sangria. All of the food has good, the only place I've tried that wasn't fantastic was the Mexican - the quesadillas were average/subpar. I find the prices reasonable for London street food. The pizza is one of my favorites, I usually share it with friends as an appetizer and then we each get separate meals. read more

Peruse the different stands, then decide which country you want to eat in for the day. I've only tried the Sri Lankan so far, and it was fantastic. This is a great place to come with a friend or two, as you can each get whatever strikes your fancy, then sit at one of the tables outside (or under cover for a less nice day) to enjoy the food and hang out. Writing a belated review from our trip to London because I just remembered :) The fiancé and I were staying at the most delightful air bnb nearby and came here per the host's recommendation, and we were so glad we came! Started off at the charcuterie stall where we could build our own picnic charcuterie board with various salamis, pickles, prosciutto, and cheese, mmmm! Our favorite though was the pasta stall all the way in the back where they had the absolute best meat tortellini. You know a pasta is good when it comes with no sauce but a light dusting of cheese, and it's still amazing! We loved this place so much we returned again for another plate. The atmosphere is so relaxed and so fun, and if we lived in London we would definitely be regulars ;) read more

Absolutely adored this market in South London! As a tourist, this space was a bit out of the way but well worth the trek. It's easy to get a sense of the sustainability-forward thinking that went into the market, from its industrial vibe to compostable cutlery. I was impressed by the quantity of both indoor and outdoor seating - seems like a great dining situation regardless of weather conditions. There were plenty of cuisines available from the indoor and outdoor food booths. I really enjoyed my Mexican-style vegan hot dog (didn't catch the name of which booth it was from). I'm pretty much here every other week to catch up with friends, have wine have some good food and chill DF out. I love this place. They've got a good variety of food and local beers for you to choose from. You got to come here at least a few times to try everything. I've got some stalls I like that I stick with. Not all the stalls are great but I am going to leave that to you to figure that one out. However if you happen to swing by here and don't know what to eat, here's a few stalls you could try: 1. The Argentine Grill - if you like beef, get the beef with sweet potato chips £11. Come early, like say about 6-6.30pm where it isn't crazy crowded yet, they'll make you a nice medium rare steak served with crispy chips. If you don't like beef, they've got chicken options too. 2. La Pizza Napoletana - Italian pizza. You can't miss this one. It's baked using an old school charcoal firewood globe grill. My favourite pizza is the Lasagnetta £7 (tomato sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, basil and shaved parmigiana). Served on a thin crust, cheesy AF. If you're feeling adventurous , they have a chocolate dessert option. 3. The Fish In A Cone - I love this place, I usually start my meal with a cone of deep fried anchovies £7 (small) or cod fish £6 (medium). It comes on bite sizes so it's good starter to share with your mates over beer. This thing gets addictive after a while. 4. Prezzemolo & Vitale - this place sales all sorts: ham, cheese, dried pastas, jam, etc. It's pretty much your Italian grocery store. We usually grab wine from this place instead of getting them by the glass in the stalls. They've got a good selection of red and white wines here. My favourite is the OSO Toscana £16/bottle. It's really smooth. Not too strong and easy to sip. If you're not careful you won't realize how drunk you'll get. You might want to grab some shave meat and cheese while you're there to share. Can't go wrong with that. You'll probably spend about a good £20-£30 per person, depending on what you eat and how much you want to drink, lol. Most of them here take card, but I'd carry cash and put your card at home so you don't blow your money buying 10 bottles of wine. Speaking from experience. read more

They have a security guard making sure people don't enter with bottled water because "they're against plastics", but inside there was a plastic fork with the food I ordered. In reality, it looks to me like they want to stop bringing in food and drink from the outside just to price gouge people since it's stupidly expensive to eat here for what you get. I checked out the stalls and ended-up eating at the pasta place and it was OK, but not great. Not worth the 12 quid. I also got a beer from the beer place and asked for a pint and got 0.4l of medium strength beer for 5 quid, which isn't too bad for central London. The Mercato Metropolitano felt really elitist. If they dropped the saving the environment charade and were actually welcoming to all, I'd give it another try. read more

Great Experience! My wife and I enjoy sampling food from all over the World. Great variety, but my favorite place was a place called Oprha's Dogs, a gourmet hot dog place. Best hot dogs I have ever had. They gave me a sample of a Hawaiian Hot Dog, and I was hooked. We had the Hawaiian and the New York, both were delicious. The wait was around 5-7 minutes for both, it was not busy at that moment. The staff was very nice and helpful when we were deciding what to order. They even have a vegan option! We would definitely go back, the Mercato also has crafted beers, great atmosphere and more. This is the place were the locals go! read more

An excellent spot! Come here in the evening for all your foodie and nightlife dreams to come true. There's several food stalls, but this isn't your average food market. It's like a very large bar with tons and tons of food options. We went on a Friday night so it was pretty packed. We walked around a bit looking for a table, but eventually gave up and decided to stand and eat. This isn't the spot for a formal dinner because even if you do find a seat, you'll most likely be sharing the table with others. We ended up eating at about 4 stalls and the food at each was delicious! It wouldn't be possible to try everything in one night, but I really wish I could. Can't wait to try out more of their options on a future trip! read more

I stopped by Mercato Metropolitano with friends on a Tuesday night. They usually visit on weekends and mentioned the weeknight was much easier to get seats since the market is particularly crowed on the weekends. Most of the seating and restaurants are inside. When the weather is nice there is a bar and a couple outdoor patio areas. We tried a couple different places since the pasta place was not open. We got a falafel plate from the Lebanese restaurant to share. I then opted for tacos from the Mexican restaurant. I'm pretty lucky living in San Diego that quality tacos are usually only a couple blocks away. So, saying that, these tacos were not superb, but were surprisingly pretty good. There is also plenty of bars in the market too. Some have a bit of everything, others specialize in wine or beer. What I like about this place is that it's great for big groups. You can bring all your friends. There is no need to debate where you want to go to dinner because people want different types of cuisines. read more

Spent a very enjoyable evening here with E. Many glasses of wine were consumed at The French Corner inside Mercato Metropolitano. The nice young gentleman at the bar was incredibly generous and hospitable. We snacked on sides from the BBQ place, tatertots and coleslaw, and an appetizer platter from the Japanese stall that included takoyaki and shrimp tempura. Both were quite yummy and the BBQ place had a sauce for the tatertots that was truly excellent. Shame about the staff at the BBQ stall who seemed like they were having a bad day at work. We didn't get to sample very much - there truly is such a wide range of options and so many varities of food and drink. I was intrigued by the craft beer that was being brewed on-site and the pizza and steak. I can't quite put my finger on why I don't want to give five stars. It might be my agreement with Jay Rayner's review of this place. There's something just a but incongrous and corporate about Mercato Metropolitano. read more

It appears to be London's version of a hipster foodhall, complete with crowd funding exhortations on large banners. While I tend to be disappointed with the quality of offerings at foodhalls I think such a thing is probably good for London since it doesn't seem to have as much streetfood/convenient quick options as, say, NYC. I only tried one thing -- the arancini, which was large, but pretty bland and not as good as ones I've had elsewhere. At 6 pm on a weekday the whole place was pretty empty. Anyway, there are lots and lots of stalls to choose from and probably some are excellent alternatives to nearby pub food and Marks and Spencer's sandwiches. read more

This new market and street food hall is a exciting new find for Italian food lovers in Borough and Elephant and Castle! The main shop feels a bit like a Whole Foods, but with hundreds of breadsticks and different varieties of pasta. The deli of cheese and meats is impressive, and they have a range of Italian wine, beer and lots of prosecco. Outside a huge warehouse or factory has been converted into a street food centre. There are several bars, delicious Neapolitan pizza, antipasti bites, fried fish, pasta (including deep fried gnocchi) and gelato. A lot of the stalls are still empty, which suggests they're planning on expanding with further choice soon. There is plenty of seating on bright yellow benches both inside and outside. A lovely place to spend the afternoon. read more

Absolutely love the varieties and selections this place can offer. Hard to make choices as food in every stand looks great and appetizing. Finally I made my decision on Turkish kebab. The flat bread wrap was great with haloumi and special sauces. Had pistachio gelato for desserts from another stall and it was awesome. Recommend sesame flavor as well A bit pricy place but ideal for large groups and parties. Would be great if they can have more outdoor seats read more

We really enjoyed our visit to the Mercato today. It was around 2pm so a little quiet but we enjoyed the chance to look around and understand the clever concept behind this venture. As we arrived ... On foot, only a few minutes from Borough underground.... we were a little surprised to see a bouncer on the gate. Once past this we were greeted by chic industrial-style food and drink huts. Many were closed but we still had a choice....pizza, bread and salami, bruschetta, fried fish, gnocchi, tapas....all looking and smelling great. Prices were fair, wine at £4 per (plastic) glass was delicious. We opted for a pizza to share and then a lemon creme and a hefty portion of tiramisu to help to settle our coffee! (The tiramisu was purchased from the neighbouring deli/market where food can be purchased to eat outside.) This is a new and brave idea and one that deserves to succeed....we look forward to returning, perhaps at the weekend so we can see and feel the buzz! What a great place to visit if your in the area, it's basically like a giant food court mainly Italian but also selling Spanish,Argentinian and British food as well. There's plenty of wine and beer on offer as well as some fantastic coffee. In the centre is an Italian delicatessen, most of the area is undercover but there is seating outside! read more

A friend showed me this place for the first time a few weeks ago, and it's a hidden gem! Full of delicious foods, lots of which being Italian, you can eat everything from wood burned oven pizza to gnocchi to some delicious gelato. They also have backyard cinema here, so make an evening out of it by also watching a film after having some great food. People were friendly and prices were fair. read more
