It's been over two years since I first discovered Brockley Market and I feel that while B.M. is still worth a visit, if one is in the area, I am not so enamored of it as I once was. Perhaps it's the change of vendors, the constant lack of available seating, and, on my last visit, the underwhelming selection of local fruit and veg, that bum me out. Dunno. An interesting selection of bread, meat, cheese is still to be had and, thank goodness, Dark Fluid and Mother Flipper are still there, but, as a tourist to the city, I'd prefer to potter around LDN Fields/B'way Market and Maltby Street on my Saturday afternoons instead. read more

Because the Brockley Market is every Saturday, nearly all of the Brockley locals and many others from around the area come every week! The market has a very extensive range of produce with excellent street food stalls. My favourite is 'Mike & Ollie' which is a street food stall that serves excellent high quality food at affordable prices. The people there are very friendly and it is becoming one of the best spots in London to buy great quality, affordable local produce. Mother Flipper has one of the best burgers in the London area and is a must for anyone who thinks they have already found their best burger, think again! I would definitely recommend Brockley Market to anyone who lives in the Brockley Area or around as it has everything for everyone! Perfect! read more

A perfect start to a perfect weekend. This small, but perfectly formed food market along Lewisham way makes an idyllic scene in what is essentially a school car park. The short and sweet two hours on a Saturday morning is just enough time for a lazy breakfast and mooch around the vibrant offerings of the market stools. My advice, go hungry. There's an interesting array of tempting fast food on offer, from Burgers, fish finger dogs and pizzas, to freshly baked goods and locally smoked salmon. The Mrs and I opted (after great debate) for a locally smoked salmon from The Little Greenwich Smokery. It also offered smoked eel, but as the Mrs is scared of snakes that idea didn't go down well. Beautifully smoked salmon in a sourdough bun, bit of fresh salad and oil. While I could have done with less roll, the salmon was lovely. For £3 for the sandwich it was a bargain and you can buy a half smoked salmon at a really good price to take home. Not only is it a wonderful place to get a treat for breakfast, it's also a great place to stock up. So many colourful grocers with plenty of reasonably priced organic produce. There are a few bakeries offering different breads and sweet things. Kooky Bakes in particular will kill me off ten years earlier than I'm meant to leave this mortal coil- but it'll be worth it for their Salted Caramel doughnut/croissant bake things to be in my mouth when I go. Also on offer is some meats from local farms, including some lovely chickens from Fosse Meadow Farms who were a delight. So skip breakfast and go to brockley market. Support lovely local (and a little outside of local) businesses producing lovely food. I hope this market grows and gets more popular. While I love that it's not manic, it deserves more custom because it's doing everything right!. read more

Really nice place to come to on a Saturday morning! It was a bit smaller than I was expecting but it had everything you need from a Farmers Market. I had been for a 5 mile run before heading out to this so I felt like I deserved a really treat! There was quite a bit to choose from from the food trucks - burgers from Mother Flipper, flatbread wraps, crepes! In the end I went for the Breakfast Muffin with a potato rosti from Mother Flipper, it was so good! The coffee from Dark Fluid good too! As for all of the other treats, I had to be so careful not to buy all the yummy looking cakes and pies and vegetables! I managed to limit myself to some "Cro D'onts" which are similar to cronuts and covered in loads of cinnamon sugar! I also bought some purple carrots and sweet potato hummus for snacks later today :) read more

A bit on the small side but that makes it feel homely. Filled with locals and foodies, a nice alternative to the tourist filled Borough market nearby. There's a good selection of street food, fresh food and drinks. read more

Hi, Brockley Market! You've been on a post-it on my cork board written in caps: "BROCKLEY MKT: GO THERE". But I'm sometimes slow at taking my own (post-it) advice. I went though. I went this weekend. I want to go back next weekend. Oh, Brockley! The Market is held 10am - 2pm on Saturdays. In a car park. It's small, but I don't say that disparagingly; I think that's one of Brockley's advantages. Look for the bunting and the bodies hunched over paper plates of delicious prepared foods. Everything fits together to provide a full range of market must-haves: there's the veg stall, and the (delicious) pie man. There's the little tea truck, and the Hungarian pickle stall that boasts the finest range of sauerkraut and pickles that I have found in London. There's the truck serving up piping hot 'halloumi' fries (HELLO FRIED CHEESE) which are _totally_ balanced by the antioxidant properties of pomegranate (a few seeds serve as garnish atop). I recommend getting a 'signature slice' from Kooky Bakes as well (follow them on Instagram to see why), although the French bakery also looked divine (as of yet untested) for its breads. You can definitely buy 'staples' (e.g., produce, yogurts) here, but I think the strength of Brockley lies with the hot food options. Warm flat breads filled with various meaty and veg-friendly options. Burritos. Several places flipping burgers (I reviewed my favourite, Mother Flipper, separately). Spicy fried chicken on a bap. Brockley market is held in a carpark moments away from St. John's rail station. It was busy and had the perfect London market vibe. The stalls were a mixture of eat straight away and ingredients or veggies to take home. To eat there were things like: flat bread, Mexican, pizza, mother flipper, halloumi fries and fish & chips. The other stands included gluten free baked goods, lots of fruit and veg, cheeses, fresh seafood, olives, granola etc. There's also the obligatory coffee van and a few tables for eating at. I opted for the halloumi fries: salty, soft, crispy, moreish and absolutely delicious. Had the taste in my mouth all day..... They were drizzled with yoghurt, mint, pomegranate molasses, pomegranate seeds and sumac. I can't begin to explain how amazing these were. YUM. I then went for the pescado fritto, this was enough for 2 people for a large snack. I thought it was all very nicely cooked, 1minute longer would be perfect. The fritto was a combo of seabass, prawns, whitebait, calamari, chips and dips (salsa verde was poor, go for the aioli). Generous portion for the £9, bigger than a main course. Delicious fish!! I picked up some tomatoes too before heading home. I liked the market and it's vibe. It doesn't have enough ready to eat food to drag me from West London but I'll be back for those halloumi fries if nothing else. read more

Brockley Market is where the Lewisham foodies flock on a Saturday. There's a decent selection of hot - burgers, burritos, Vietnamese pork. And you can stock up on granola, try some fresh cheese from one of three different stalls and enjoy your fill of tempting cakes, biscuits and pastries. There's also a butchers plus fresh fruit and veg dotted about the place. I only had a small amount of change so went for the cheapest stodgy option: breakfast burrito for £4.50. Make sure you're hungry - tis a generous portion. Substantial egg, guac and beans squished into a warm tortilla. There isn't an abundance of space to sit, which is a shame as there's easily room for more benches. Nonetheless, if you wanted you could perch on the surrounding fences or on the small patch of grass. Enjoyable activity for a brunch/lunch in Brockley. Check it out if you're nearby. read more

Cute quiet market in a parking lot selling things from food stands to fresh produce. It's open from 10 to 2 so has a small time slot of availability but great place to chill out for lunch. Try: Mother Flippin Burgers (try the breakfast sandwich or the candy bacon burger with an EGG), Kooky Bakes for their Red Velvet or Caramel whoopie pies, the tea stand for some Darjeeling tea. During summers they have ice cream! The produce can be quite expensive, compared to the Lewisham Farmer's market around the corner. I'd suggest coming here for the hot food and the farmer's market for fresh produce. There's easy parking on the street as well as the parking lot. Seating areas are available but note that everything is outdoors and exposed to the elements (ie rain...). read more

Great little food market, almost like a mini borough market but without the hoards of people. Food stalls vary, you have a butchers, green grocers, fish monger's and baker's, for all your takeaway goods, then you have your vendor's that serve food hot and cold to eat there and then. Ok so it's my local market so I'm probably biased but it really is a great market & it is getting better all the time. This weekend it felt like there were more fresh produce stalls, which I love. Dark Fluid for great coffee & a number of stalls for a tasty late breakfast/ early lunch. It ticks every box for me. read more

I went along to the first one of these a few weeks ago. It was great, a perfect Saturday market with a mix of stalls from veg, plants, art, and takeaway food stuffs. All the good folk of Brockley had come out for it, and it was as much as social event as a place to buy goodies, helped by the little benches they'd set up where you could scoff your reasonably priced cookies from the cake lady and excellent coffee from the Dark Fluid stall. The Lewisham College car park site works perfectly, and it's surprisingly leafy, on the nicest bit of that road. I hope they can make a success of it going forward. I reckon it'll be a great spot to pick up some different Xmas presents. - Worth noting that the Google Map up on the right shows 'Honor Oak Park' it's nowhere near HOP, Google has had it wrong for years! :) - Also worth noting, it's a nice 10 minute stroll through the conservation area from Brockley station, which is on the London Overground (which isn't listed in the stations above here). read more

In my opinion, the best food market in London. None of the confined space of somewhere like Borough Market and nowhere near the crowd, not to mention a very high quality of market stall with a few award winners present most weeks. In fact, the worst thing about Brockley market is trying to decide what to eat. I always want a Mother Flipper, but can't limit myself when there's so much other good food around. Normally that means a Dark Fluid coffee and a Breakfast Flipper followed by a burrito from Luardos or an ox heart burger from Tongue n Cheek, then maybe a sweet treat from one of the cake stalls, or ice cream from Ruby Violet. Then I should probably get some meat for dinner, and some brea because it looks great. And a free taster of some cheese which I then can't live without buying. A trip to Brockley Market can get quite expensive. Maybe you shouldn't go after all. And I'm not just saying that because it's getting busier each week and I don't want to have to queue for so long... read more

I had been meaning to try Brockley Market for some time before heading across the other week. It is closest to St John's national rail station and a short bus ride from New Cross (Lewisham is also in walking distance) and is held in a car park on Saturdays (10-2). It is a fairly small but perfectly formed with a range of hot food vendors and produce stalls. One of my friends is obsessed my the Mother Flipper burger stall but I opted to get a BLT from another, which was great. So I hemmed and hawed on what would be the right place to review for my 500th Yelp review (!!!): should I stick to my expertise (Phx) or do a secret gem here in London? I finally settled on Brockley Market, because it's simple and it delivers. You don't need DJs and cocktails, and don't want entrance fees and crowds and long lines to enjoy some wonderful London street food. Brockley Market proves that without a doubt. We went the last weekend in June, and came to find out that it probably wasn't the best time, choice wise. All the popular trucks had hauled off to Glastonbury (including Luardo's, which was 90% of the reason we came here, humph!). But that also meant it wasn't too crowded and there was actual seating (god I hate stuffing my face while standing up, I really do). I started at a coffee/tea stall (not sure the name as they had 2-3 banners on their truck) to get an iced tea. Hot brewed green tea which is then allowed to cool to room temperature and then shaken over ice and slightly sweetened (with agave syrup, I think?) to order. Lovely. Could not decide between the fried mackerel flatbread guys or the braised ox cheek sandwich on milk-and-honey sourdough guys, so tricked my husband into sharing and then I got both! (You are not dealing with an amateur here, guys.) There are coffee stalls, as well as groceries like fresh bread, olive oil, greens, milk, cheese, fruits (my god the cherries we got were by far the best I've had in my life) and a Spanish charcuterie selling some of the nicest iberico and chorizo I've tasted. Really just a great place to show up at 11 or so for an early lunch/late breakfast, then shop around for some fresh bits and pieces so you can go about the rest of your weekend. this really is a small but perfectly formed market. there is such a variety of really high quality traders here - it's very difficult to make your selections! luardos do the best burrito i have ever had, mother flipper rock awesome burgers, kooky bakes make delicious sweet treats and those are just the three that i've tried - all the traders looked awesome and i will be sure to return to make it my mission to try as many of them as i can! the vibe here is lovely and chilled out - it's a saturday morning from 10am - 2pm so a nice way to begin your weekend. despite it only being a car park in a community college, it is jam packed full of people with their dogs, families with their kids, couples and groups of friends. lovely. read more

I daresay this is more for the straightforward food shopper than for the food market lingerer. You don't come here to soak up the atmosphere a la Street Feast etc You can pick up fresh produce of all kinds from the stalls but can also buy warm food from one of the vans - they are all neatly lined up next to each other, so getting amongst it pick'n'mix style is a real thing. It's as pricey as all other food markets but it's not as overrun as most of them. Nice, if you live in the area. read more

I went along today for the first time and thought it was delightful, there's a range of butchers, grocers, flowers/plants, bread/pastry stalls. I bought some lovely sausages, brie and an amazing bread which i'm munching on now :). I will definitely be visiting her on a regular basis. read more

What bums me out - to use someone else's word - is there is only one coffee facility. There is always a queue and they just can't cope. So bring your coffee with you guys...it's better on the 'High Street' anyway. Peter H read more
