SCAM! If I could give 0 stars I would. This place is a scam. I called (their call center) I gave them insurance info. The lady on the line said they accepted my insurance. I went ahead and made an appointment, I was seen and at the end, they wanted to charge me $80+ for my exam. They went on to let me know they didn't accept my insurance and it's not in their network. The older lady, I'm assuming the manager seemed a bit rude and bothered when I asked them to speak to their CSR and make sure they're aware certain insurance aren't accepted after they told me they accepted my insurance. read more

First, they advertised 60% off so I called to verify this. The info I got on the phone was incorrect. I got another explanation in store. The reality is Stanton's great deal wasn't competitive with other vision care centers in my case. I was led to believe their deal was even better than my vision plan could offer. Next, unorganized and unprofessional staff. The exception is the person who helped me figure out the real and correct cost for the services I was requesting. She was knowledgeable and customer oriented. I arrived early was seated in the waiting area and proceeded to sit there for over an hour. Finally I inquired about my assigned appointment time and the wait, I got a snarky answer. So, I waited about 15 more minutes since I already wasted an hour waiting. No. Just no. 1. PINK EYE! They had an untrained person do my first bit of eye exam, and when I was done, she took a dry brown paper towel off her desk, barely wiped the eye area, and took the next patient - an elderly man. No sanitation AT ALL. No alcohol swabbing. What a surprise, I had pink eye for the first time in my life a few days later. 2. They then took me back into a room, where you get the second half of the exam. You sit in a standard type of chair, but the "doctor" is on a video screen from another country. This doctor's accent was very hard to understand, and I was not at all surprised when my prescription came out completely wrong. I went in never having used reading glasses in my life. Left and now need reading glasses all day every day with this prescription. Everything within 8 feet in blurry. That is bizarre, and I now need to go to a DIFFERENT doctors and start over / pay again. Just dumb waste of money. 3. I called to left them know about the pink eye and the issue with my wildly wrong prescrition - they didn't give a damn. GO ANYWHERE ELSE. read more

This is my second review of Stanton Optical. The first visit, I dealt only with the techs and eyeglass salespeople. That experience was fine. But the second time I went for a full exam (April 2025), planning to buy two pairs of glasse after getting an exam and new prescription. I was shocked, after checking in, to find there is no optometrist on site. A tech runs basic tests and then you see an optometrist remotely, online. I called for apt. me and 2 children. They said they took my ins. First lie. The receptionist said she couldn't find my children only me on line . I called Davis vision ins. they had me and kids with full benefits. The receptionist kept acting like she was looking but had already found us all on system. As it went on she ends up telling me it would be better to pay cash. I have ins. for a reason. It was going to end up costing me 400 for us all with ins. Submitting to a virtual eye exam was a new and unpleasant experience, starting with a waiting area that was reminiscent of an old, smelly, bus depot with seating that must have been purchased second hand from a detention facility. When I got into the eye exam room - well it looked like a garage setup - and I was instructed to sit down in front of a computer screen where a gal in a lab coat appeared and took me through an "unconventional" eye exam. I was not inspired with confidence in this shaky process. Later when I picked up my single vision glasses - they were so wrong that I laughed out loud - however, Flora the service tech treated me with such disdain and derision I was taken aback and the encounter quickly became combative - she insisted I either go back and get another virtual exam immediately - or take the glasses as is. She was mean-spirited to the point I ended up "leaving" with the glasses, actually "escaped" is a better term in this case. Long story shorter - I paid $750.00 (I came into the store to take advantage of the 2 pair for $79.00). I got single vision regular, single vision sunglasses, and a 6-pack of contact lenses. They dribbled in over the course of 6-weeks. The store manager, Israel, took care of me as I refused to deal any more with Flora (who at one point instructed me to turn the glasses upside down, now I'm not an eye doctor but . . . .) and he was nice and did a good job helping me through the entire process (again). I can only recommend not engaging with Stanton. If you live in Las Cruces then drive to El Paso. As for me, I'm trying to build up the courage to order another 6-pack of contacts. Flora threatened to call the police on me as I wouldn't leave without the last contact order. I'd been called once and emailed twice that the contacts were in and ready to pick up. She told me she was sick and the only one in the store so I'd have to pick them up later. Flora was sick and so was I, later, after contracting whatever she had. I left with the contacts thanks to Israel's kind intervention. Ultimately the police weren't called, however, this old Bandito is not going to risk jail for my next exam with a virtual Chinese (I only mention this as she had a great deal of trouble understanding me as I did her) doctor. I should tell you all that wearing my glasses upside down has given me a different perspective especially when driving - so watch out for me in my big red truck. read more

First of all there is no doctor on the premises. You see a tech and then everything is done via telahealth. According to them my tx had a big change (first time in over 30 years) but ok. When my glasses were complete I could tell it wasn't the rx for me. I was told because I had been wearing my current glasses all day my eyes were having trouble adjusting. Do not go here. I went in for a contact appointment on 12/06. The exam was a joke, the doctor was via telemedicine, and wanted to up my contact prescription quite a bit in both eyes. When I tried the trial lenses they brought out, they made me nauseous. I told them my current prescription was working well and asked if I could talk to the doctor. Instead, I got the office manager, who was downright rude and did an eye chart exam to "prove" the new prescription was correct. I opted for a second opinion. Today I had an appointment at Vista Eye Care. Night and day experience. Dr. Wendler and her staff performed a complete eye examination. My eyes are pretty healthy. My prescription was tweaked in one eye (I was expecting this) and I actually had the option to stay with my previous prescription if I didn't want to have to deal with two different prescriptions of contacts. read more

My wife went to Stanton Optical for an eye exam and new glasses. The exam was done by a doctor online and not in person. She paid extra for eyeglass insurance. When a lens fell out of the eyeglass frame she returned to Stanton Optical for repair. We were told the repair would cost $250. When we protested the employee spent 5 minutes putting the glass back into frame for free. Obviously the eyeglass insurance purchase is pointless. Months later the lens fell out again. We attempted to get her prescription from Stanton Optical to order online and they gave us the run around. Over 3 weeks has gone by and no prescription received. By federal law they are required to give you this (google eyeglass rule). A complaint has been filed with the Federal Trade Commission. Avoid this place. read more

Updated ONE STAR review. Been waiting about a month after three unexplained delays. DO NOT shop here. Instead use nearby America's Best or Eyemart Express. One is in the mall across the street. On May 25, I bought two pairs of glasses (one single view, one bifocal w transition). My FIRST estimated P/U date was 6/8. My SECOND estimated P/U date was moved to 6/13. My THIRD estimated P/U date was for 6/18. NOW on 6/18 my newest estimated pick up says "6/22" and there is no reason to believe they will be ready. I attached a photo of the cuts on the bridge of my nose caused by my current (4 year old prescription) pair. Each time the date changed I spoke to customer service...the first three times I was told that they were delayed in processing, AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE A REASON WHY. Your eye exam is done entirely by technicians , and your visual acuity exam is done by a technician working remotely. This was not conveyed or stated whatsoever when I called in to make an appointment with customer service. Their customer service department is also a different entity from the physical stores and they do not communicate with each other whatsoever. Whatever prices customer service tells you IS NOT ACCURATE AND IS NOT WHAT THE PHYSICAL STORE HERE CHARGES. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID, AND THE DISCOUNTED PRICES THAT CUSTOMER SERVICE QUOTES YOU AS A MEDICAID PATIENT IS NOT WHAT THE CRUCES STORE CHARGES. BUYER BEWARE. If you plan on ordering any other contact brand other than acuvue oasis with them, they will charge you a lot for purchasing another brand. I literally paid $120 for a 1 month supply of dailies total 1 contact lenses for a prescription that does not work for my eyes. I got quoted for the same brand of lenses down the street at another eye clinic and they are charging me $88 for a 3 month supply of contacts for the same exact brand. If your contact prescription does NOT work well for your eyes , and you need to go back for adjustments, you're SOL. You will be told to go to an El Paso branch to see an actual opthalmologist there who will need to redo your eye exam completely to sign you off. read more

I scheduled an appointment for an eye exam and called ahead of time to ask if they accept my insurance. The guy was super friendly and told me I would get the exam and a set of frames with no cost to me so I confirmed the appointment. I showed up today and the man I spoke with to check in was super rude. As soon as he saw my insurance card he said there will be copays. I let him know that I called the day before and they said everything would be covered so they gave me the wrong info and I was disappointed because that was the whole point of checking in advance to avoid getting there just to find out they don't accept it. It was almost like he was angry with me about it then he let me know it would be full price of $70 if I don't get frames from them and $25 if I get the frames. I didn't want to give them any money at that point and walked in to eye mart down the street and had a significantly better experience with staff and coverage. This place is giving me Salesman vibe. They check our insurance they said they dont see it in the system and told us to call the insurance provider and recommend us to check their Buy One Get One Free deal instead. We walk out and we went to VisionWorks at the mall and found Glenn and guess what Glenn found our insurance in the system in 30 seconds he helped us and gave us 5 star service. This operation is DECEPTIVE from the beginning. The 'operators' are actually salesmen. And the three I spoke with NEVER mentioned that this entire business is via video. There is no eye doctor anywhere near the office. While filling out their digital intake form in their office, I started to realize how degrading and dishonest they were. The disclaimer that I give permission for my appt to be recorded filled in 'yes' automatically. So I asked the overworked and disinterested woman working there whether this would be via video, and if so, why no one had told me that before I came in to their office. She said yes it was 'telemedicine' and that she doesn't know why they are deceptive. I said I might consider a video appt but would not give permission for any recordings. She said it didn't matter if I give permission because they always record everything anyway. I left right away. What a frustrating waste of time! read more

Had my new glasses only 2.5 mths. before they broke. Went in and explained I just paid @$400.00 and didn't expect this to happen. Employee told me "Get mad all you want, I'm not ordering you another pair" Was told to pay 25% to cover cost of new frames. Upon leaving store with expletives, as I was outside walking towards my vehicle I turned around to see an employee gesturing with his chest out, arms wide open and hands gesturing me to come back inside and fight. WHAT A DOLT!! If he only knew the @$$ whoopin' he would've endured had he done that outside in the parking lot. Anyway......I called the manufacturer and was told that that frame is obsolete and will have to pick out a new set at no cost but I still have to pay for new lenses to fit the new frames which will be another$200.00. So right now I'm stuck with a $400.00 bill which will accrue interest for a pair of broken frames (that are obsolete) and the back up pair from Stanton that are giving me headaches with terrible customer service from Stanton on top of all this! It's been a month and no call on the progress of my glasses. I call and my phone has been blocked. I had to call out of state to find out the status. Again......terrible customer service! I called prior to booking my appointment and going there. I'm disabled and it's very difficult for me to get around so I didn't want to make an unnecessary trip. I was told pretty much whatever I needed to hear to get me in the door. On the phone my insurance was good, and yes, they can put lenses in Amazon Echo Frames. Not the case when I arrived; my insurance was no good there and I finally got the clerk to admit that he had no idea about my frames (specific instructions for the optometrist provided) - he just sends them to corporate and are usually back in 14 days. I should have read these reviews first. It is a virtual exam from somewhere. They tried to charge $1,200 for two pairs of glasses which is ridiculous. Somehow they discounted it to a 1/4 of that. When I got the glasses back the prescription was really bad. I saw double traffic lights and made me nauseous. Also their "adjustment" of the frames was bending the temple hinge to a point where the sunglasses wouldn't close proper. I said the rx is wrong. They Re did my exam and the second of course was different than the first. They said my eyes changed in two weeks. It's like really? I have a master's degree and I'm not an idiot. Second set came back and prescription is still bad. I live an hour away and will return. What a waste of time and money. No wonder they aren't busy and you can get an appointment easily. The assistant manager David helped me out and did a terrific job helping me understand the pricing and what they offered. I was very pleased with him and what he offered. Unfortunately, I did not receive the correct prescription and I blame that solely on the decision not to have a optometrist on site. I was excited to get a new pair of glasses at a good price but upon receiving the glasses with the wrong lenses I'm questioning whether I would of been better off spending more at Eyemart. I don't recommend this place at all. Terrible customer service!! My boyfriend and I went to this place and we were just standing waiting for some help. A customer told us that we need it to sign in. My boyfriend sign in but they have 2 different signing sheets and nobody told us. So after 15 minutes we found out that for eye exams they have another signing sheet. He went and sign it but it didn't matter because they don't even read it. They took 2 people after us and didn't even ask us if we need it help. Count your fingers before you leave. 12/7/18 Met my 2p appt. I asked Allen a couple of questions about the type of lenses included in the $59.95 two pair deal and if they were UV protected. Plastic and no. How much for UV? $25 for the pair of glasses. Okay. So, for $84.95 I was charged $99. I called their toll-free number and the polite person didn't have a sensible answer. I asked for the order to be canceled. The guy doing the initial exam had to be told to sanitize the equipment. The actual exam is done remotely from West Palm Beach, FL by a doctor with limited English skills. The waiting area chairs are torturous. IMO, avoid this grade school tryout. read more

Stanton Optical is shady. It's like a more-dishonest than usual used car dealership. They are squeezing their employees for as much labor as cheaply as possible. They used a Skype "optometrist" to do my eye exam, which was okay I guess, but the rest went downhill from there. There were hidden fees. I ended up spending twice what I had originally calculated. Not because I am bad at math, but because they spring hidden fees once they sit you down, AFTER your exam. They were slow getting my lenses grinded and framed... like 2 days! That would be fine, except they make it seem like they are "within the hour" type retailer. And when they finally arrived, my lenses were ground poorly, with a very narrow and off center field of vision. My frames broke less than a year, and bringing them in, all they could do for me, they said, was to SELL ME a brand new pair, AT FULL PRICE. No repair option... no nothing else. No customer loyalty... 0%. My suggestion would be to go anywhere and everywhere else for glasses. Don't give these manipulative, ultra-corporate psychos your business. read more

Las Cruces NM office. Yelp posted my reiview from San Francisco??? I priced around and and their price was about the same as others. Adding noline Bifocals seem to cost $250 everywhere. Ordered and paid for on 3/19. Told 2 weeks to get them. After 2 weeks, I went to the store, not there yet, no phone call to let me know. Friday 4/9 got phone call to come get them. Mon 4/12 went to store, waited in line. Not there. Thurs 4/15, stopped at store and here they are, no phone call. I asked for and received a 20% discount (tells you how overpriced they are). The side pieces were adjusted and given back to me. I've worn glasses for 60 years. This doesn't count as fitting them to me. The nose pieces are too tight, so I'll have to go back to the store. Will not purchase there again. They don't understand that unhappy people write reviews???? read more

Booked an appointment for my 85 yr old grandfather, that morning they send a text reminder to come, it was a 4 hour round trip and was snowing. When we get there they say corporate cancelled the eye dr that day. They didn't have the decency to call us and cancel or reschedule. Yet they texted us to remember to come and bring a mask and let us travel that far for nothing. Short story: Poor customer service, poorly trained employees (both salesmen and technicians), no actual doctor, and so impersonal. Long story: Two stars might be too much, I was very unimpressed with Stanton Optical. Normally I don't leave a review, but it was SO bad I'm taking the time to share so you might choose to avoid this place for yourself. When making an appointment over the phone, the lady I was talking to was so eager to hang up on me. She says, "okay bye!" prompting me to say "no I am not done, I still have questions." It was not a long phone call, maybe five minutes tops. When I show up to my appointment, the tech doesn't know how to adjust the machines that puff air into your eyes, so I am seated in an awkward slumped position. Not to mention the glitter that was still on the chin pad. Not cleaned after each person, eww that's right next to my mouth! Finally, I wait 20-30 minutes to see the eye doctor even though I had made an appointment and was on time. When I go in the room, it's a person on a television screen, likely from another country as there was a long delay between my responses and his actions. No actual doctor exists in-house at this location on Telshor. When it comes time to order my glasses, for some reason the salesman can't figure out how to charge me for both pairs of glasses. He fiddled around on the computer for probably close to 45 minutes. Overall I was in Stanton for TWO hours! I gave them two stars because my glasses were ready quickly! I got one of the pairs within 24 hours which was extremely nice. When I went to pick up my second pair, the salesman goes to adjust them to fit in my face and answers the phone. He then proceeds to chat to the person (his boss) while I am left waiting. He tells his boss all about how business is going, why they didn't make their sales quota the day before, how they are role playing with customers, etc. Also, you should know they have an automated system that kept calling me and saying I had an order to pick up after I had already gotten all my orders. Not too big of a deal, but unprofessional and obnoxious. I had to go in to ask them to please stop calling me. read more
