I had a Mac book Pro. While opening it one night, the screen cracked. I of course freaked out, and raced to the nearest, open service centre which was Staples. I brought it in and the tech guy assured me that it would okay. All I had to do was buy the glass piece and it would be fine. This was in December 2011, and they did mention that as it was holiday season, there may be a delay, but it should be in in about three to four weeks, and they would call when it was in. So January rolls around, and no call. So I call in.
"No one called you" is a response you never want to hear. No, no one called me. They then inform me that the $200 dollars I paid for the glass panel was for naught. That Apple doesn't even sell glass panel replacements. I must come in and pay about $400 more to replace the total top half of my computer. Now, had I known this before, I may have bought a new machine, as mine was 3 years old already.
So I come in, pay the money for the screen, and they tell me they will call me when it is in. This time they do. I bring it in on a Saturday, and tell them I am a student and need it back as soon as possible, being in my fourth year, and working on my thesis.
They promise me, it will be ready in 24 hrs. Monday comes, and I call in. They inform me that the tech assigned to my computer has not been in, and they can't work on it. He will be in at noon though. I get a call that night at 8:45Pm to come and pick it up.
I come in, happy to have it back and be done with it...
The airport card is not detected. WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT IS NOT CONNECTED! I take it back in on tuesday. They ask for my password, so they can check if it is working. I wasn't really comfortable with this, but I need it to work. I finally get it back, and the black plastic bar connecting the screen to the base is cracked and loose. To my horror, the glass panel is also loose and will easily dislodge in the left top corner. Great.
I refuse to take it back there, and email into both staples and Apple.
For a YEAR I did not hear back. The airport card in my Mac fails, and this time I take it into Future Shop. They say there is no explanation, but it may have to do with the cracked black plastic bar on the back, as the airport card is found in the screen portion. This time I called in to Staples and Apple (January 2013) and was told that all complaints must be written in.
I write both companies AGAIN. This time Staples replies and tells me that the store manager gave me a 50% discount. I go through my records to see if this is refunded. It was not. I write back stating this, and yet again do not hear back.
Never, ever take anything there for tech service. Ever. It is not worth it.
Go to Future Shop. Super helpful. read more
