This started as an Internet-only all 90s station, or 90s On 9 via satellite radio. It's supposedly the first FM station nationwide (?) to feature this format. I knew Sacramento was a test market for new products & services, but this is TORTURE like animal testing. Basically, a computer was hired to play songs that were commercially released during 1990-1999. What I liked about that era was the alternative rock and grunge rock KWOD 106.5 FM played. The Buzz still plays Pearl Jam, Cake, Stone Temple Pilots and Nirvana -- but they mix in TLC, Prince, Faith Hill, and Notorious BIG. That's like a cook who has dropped a filet mignon (or tofu patty, if your vegetarian) on the floor, intentionally stomped on it a few times, put it back in the frying pan and served it to you on a fancy schmancy plate. Yes I like 90's music. No 106.5 The Buzz is NOT good. Losing kwod Alternative is VERY sad for Sacramento, as now we no longer have an alternative/rock station. Yeah I GUESS we still have 98 Rock, but they still cater MOSTLY to hard rock and classic rock, sure they're playing some alternative to try and make up for KWOD's loss but it's not the same. LET ALONE how small of a repertoire The Buzz has, I mean shoot I hear more "replays" on The Buzz than on 107.9 The End..... It's ok I don't even listen to shit ass regular radio anymore. Seriously, she is trashy and I would never want that kind of rude and offensive figure representing my station. Avoid this station in the morning! Radio Station Fail. My review today is that of a Troll's. That's all I have for this station. Music variety is one thing, but no one expects to listen to rap, then hard metal, then pop, only to be saddened by a country song followed up by a happy Disney song... Just no flow at all. Ahhh! The name is even Annoying!! Ok... so yea, I still listen to this station grudgingly. What am I supposed to do? The options are so limited and there are some good artists scattered throughout the day. Its not that the 90's was full of bad music... I just don't like ALL 90's ALL the time. Feels like a form of torture. Guess Ill just have to deal with this bi polar station till someone incorporates what I like. As a side note, one of the things I really liked about KWOD was the info they would share on artists, the local bands they would throw in from time to time and promote at events, and the new popular music mixed with obscure music with a dash of some good older music as well. Do we really have to be subjected to station options that only consist of mass media music? Boo to that! There's already a bunch of stations that offer very close to what this station has morphed into. This station has the feeling of being run by a machine and there is no feeling of human touch! I listened to music in the 90's, even enjoyed it. But oh my sweet strawberries this station sucks. Seriously, what is up with the Snapple Lady? I was extremely sad to see KWOD leave. I miss them very very much. But the new music they have on 106.5 is ok, and I found myself listening to it almost as much as I did KWOD. But then... the morning show happened. WTF is that woman doing? Listening to her is like watching a baby chew on razor blades. To Liza S & Becca F, personally I liked it better when the station had no DJ's. Now I avoid that button on my dial like it has the plague on my way to work. Jamie White, you suck. This station is now called "Star 106.5", same call letters but now a more standard top 40 format like how KWOD was in the 80s. Sadly they are also the most REPETITIVE station I have EVER heard- there's about 5 core songs that are played SEVERAL times EVERY day. I have been forced to listen to this station for hours at a time and it is absolutely agonizing- I now have Adele's "Someone Like You" and Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" permanently imprinted on my brain- if all existing copies were somehow destroyed or erased, a perfect copy of them could be retrieved from my brain. I'm open-minded enough to listen to songs I don't like, but even the greatest song ever recorded shouldn't be repeated on the radio this much. Given the general public's taste, this'll probably end up the top-rated station in the area. Several businesses already play it regularly, there's a couple eating establishments I've stopped going to simply because I don't want to have to hear this station and its repeating 5 songs while eating. read more

I listen to satellite radio now, but I used to listen to KWOD before I got Sirius. I was so shocked to find out that the old KWOD was going to be no more. That was one of the first stations that got me listening to the music that I listen to today. Now it's just a bunch of crap 90's songs. I don't even bother flipping to it when I'm listening to regular radio anymore. It's so disappointing. And whose idea was it to name the station "The Buzz"? I switched what was my KWOD preset to a classical music station.

The Buzz is really a grab-bag of random 90's songs... you never know what you're gonna get. Maybe a box of chocolates would have been a better 90's themed analogy. The novelty of hearing all these songs from my younger days was fun at first, but after a while I started to remember why I stopped listening to that music. And you could get anything when you switch to that station. It could go from Pearl Jam to Snoop Dogg to Alanis Morrisette to Michael Jackson in a 20 minute period. Interesting, I suppose, but rarely is it able to hold my attention. Usually when a station takes a decade theme, it sticks with one type of music, such as 80's rock... not 80's rock and country and polka. Feels like the novelty is wearing off. I will say it's a plus that they're featuring local DJs rather than just playing music or nationally syndicated shows... although their morning show is just a mess. Occasionally I'll flip over to it (AKA the other station went to commercials), and it just feels like it's a group of friends that have no experience in radio trying to fill however many hours they're on by being loud and obnoxious. It really makes you appreciate radio DJs that know what they're doing. It was sad to see KWOD's demise. The Buzz can make for a decent second or third string station on your radio, but you really never know what's going to be playing when you turn to it. read more

Personally, if you were born in the early- to mid-eighties, then I think you would find this station to be extremely nostalgic. The Jamie White morning show is the worst I've ever heard. The sound of her gravely voice is more annoying than fingernails on a chalkboard. It sounds like she is always YELLING. I listened to her when she was on a morning show in LA with Danny Bonaduce, and she definately needs a male co-host to give balance to the show. WOW! That's what first came to mind after reading some of these reviews. After the decade that gave us "Laffy Taffy" and "The Thong Song", people seriously think that the 90's was the worst decade for music?!?! How does that work? The 2000's were EASILY the worst decade for music, so why are people throwing a fit that one radio station decided to switch it up, and play music from an era that was actually respectable? Hell, compared to the crap they play on the radio these days, "Just a Friend" or any random Ace of Base song seems like a masterpiece compared to Justin Bieber or T-Pain. Such a shame that this has happened. KWOD was a landmark in the Sacramento Valley and has now been replaced by this garbage station. Seriously, how many times a day do you need to hear "Gin and Juice" and "Everybody hurts" These songs get more play on this station now then when they were originally hits. Okay--I can understand almost all the viewpoints listed here on Yelp on this station; however, I actually like tuning to this channel as one of my many selections of music. I enjoy changing the station and listening to songs that I once had an awesome time listening to...Although, I have not listened long enough to hear all the station's extras, such as this Snapple lady you all speak of. Other than that, I do tune in for the music, so I commend this station for bringing back the 90s just as there has always been a dedicated golden oldies station that plays music from the 60s and 70s, which I also love by-the-way. I do have to agree that most are complaining of the change that happened to KWOD, and it will not be the same as they would have liked. Unfortunately, this happens a lot with many stations that aren't fully supported to continue financially...it is obvious that KWOD didn't make enough money or assume a successful projected outcome to keep on going. I feel sad about this as well, as this station has made a mark on me with its awesome music and entertaining dialog. On the other hand, the change is inevitable and if KWOD made enough money, it would not have changed. Remember those days that KSFM 102.5 was the only R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap station? Take note that society has added a few whole stations that include more of these types of songs...sad but true. The music is generally pretty bad, and doesn't really seem like it touches on the 90's. The day before Thanksgiving the radio station advertised that they were giving away free turkeys. I called in and was told... "you just won a turkey, congrats." I drove all the way down to their radio station 15 to 20 minutes out of my way, wasting gas, only to be given a coupon for 15$ dollars off of a turkey. Didn't even cover HALF of the cost. I was incredibly pissed, and the lady at the desk looked at me like I was the idiot. She said, "did you really think you were coming here to get a turkey?" I replied, "well I suppose so, since you told me.... come on down to this address and pick up your turkey." Terrible. read more

Bah, this list of reviews is compiled of a bunch of people with obsession issues or KWOD groupies. I'm down wit this station yo. I have to say that I forgot how much sweet music there was in the 90's. It's good to hear some of that again. To me and most of my friends that I grew up with, the 90's, especially the alternative movement, was all about mixing it up. Not being stuck as a "TYPE" who could be expected to listen to type specific music and act like others of the same type. We just enjoyed what was out there, open minded like. Today a number of my old friends and a large number of my new friends enjoy the variety. Which is why a station like this and 107.9 is so popular. So yeah, at first I thought, "Ugh, I've officially entered the Retro-ville age group" and "Please not another niche station", I've personally be pleasantly surprised. read more

I kindof feel bad for The Buzz since it replaced a station that was so dear to a majority of Sacramentans. I was on vacation when the switch happened and when I got back from the East Coast and realized my favorite radio station (and DJs) had disappeared, I felt like I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to a beloved family pet before it passed away. I don't think I'll ever fully recover. With that said the Buzz had some serious shoes to fill and to this day still hasn't gotten it quite right. I am not the kind of person to write reviews. But after several weeks of listening to the new 106.5, more specifically the morning show, I was compelled. It is the most irritating thing I have ever listened to. The morning host is absolutely horrible and the way she treats the her co-host is down right rude. I miss KWOD. 90s is fine, but I feel like their choice of 90s is off. I tried to give a listen. I really did. But i think i've only been able to keep the station on for about one song a half of dozen times. I love Beck and i really dig some Snoop Dogg once in a while.
