Since I have only a low income monthly deposit this borrow option is necessary for my unexpected expenses having a baby at home but I never qualify no matter how much money I tried to put in. What they're doing now is beyond false advertising and I am warning everyone DO NOT open any accounts with them if you are disabled on a monthly income like me because they will not stand by their word to make available your mobile deposit that I uploaded on 7/10/2025. It says on their website that if you are a new customer within 39 days your money will be available by the 2nd business day and longer customers like myself should get immediate availability. Well they are holding my deposit from me and will not give me any explanation. Even after I told them this was an emergency funded loan that I deposited for an emergency. It's been almost 5 business days and they still won't even give me an explanation. They are holding a deposit that has already been accepted and approved! They are ruining my credit again getting my utilities shut off because I trusted they would not keep my emergency funds from me! This is an outrage having a disability and a one year old to care for they sure now how to make anyone in hardship WAY worse! I've used a lots of other good and not so good banks but this bank exceeds them all with how many times they bend their word on every banking benefit if you are someone like me. I received a call from Sarah Burton who thanked me for my business and explained other services offered. I was in the market for a driveway replacement so I applied for a 2nd mortgage. Danielle took over, and that is where the problems began. I was told the process would take 3-4 weeks, but from the onset, disclosures had the wrong info. Danielle said those were based on a phone conversation even though emails exchanged never discussed that amount. I was approved and we waited on the appraiser. Now, I've been in the mortgage business, and I've borrowed before, but this bank made me signe a disclosure stating that the appraiser and the title agent were both on the bank's board of directors. I should have bolted after I did not receive a straight answer on that one. We waited, and I was unable to contract the work obviously contingent upon the final closing. We began the process on May 9th. I went on vacation at the end of June and still no answer. Upon returning in July, I was called by another processor because Danielle was on vacation. I was told we were ready to close. I asked about the appraisal (which I paid $468 for with flood certification up front after being told only $150 closing fee-another lie). He put me on hold and came back saying the appraiser (who never set foot in our home) called it at 107K. 8 years ago, my home appraised for 125K and since has had a new kitchen, baths, windows, hooked into city sewers, and hardwoods refinished. That appraisal put the loan I was planning out of reach. I emailed Danielle, her manager, and the processor demanding my money back for the appraisal, but received no response. I called Danielle later that week and she was unavailable, but she emailed me that my check would be mailed but she had no idea when. I will tell you that they will tell you how customer service is their strong suit, and had they done anything they promised, I would agree. The bottom line is that the appraiser is a member of the board, and he and whomever else decided to lowball my appraisal in order to sabotage my loan. Bottom line, I got strung along for 60 days and they would not even call me after they screwed me over. I have applied elsewhere, have been approved, and should close in the next 2 weeks on that loan. I wish I had dumped them when my gut first told me to. I plan to refinance my bike loan as well. I want absolutely nothing to do with this institution. And Danielle had to drop off some disclosures she had messed up to my house, and she complimented us on how nice our house was, but came in reaking of cigarette smoke. Pretty unprofessional in my opinion. This review is for the Fishers location, but I am certain that headquarters was aware of the issues as they were blamed for the delays by Danielle.

Went into this local small town bank and the tellers looked at me like I was going to rob the…read moreplace. They were not very friendly towards me. The manager finally came over to assist me after I had to wait about 10 minutes, even though there were no other customers. Maybe they were stalling me to get the police outside the building before helping me, I don't know, haha. But after talking to her for a few minutes and answering lots of her odd questions, I decided she was not going to be able to help me, and I needed to go to another bank. The only reason I went to this bank located on the intersection of US Hwy 40 and State Rd 9 was because I was already doing other business nearby. All this small town bank did for me was waste 30 minutes of my time. Too many other banks in the area that are always willing to help me, so I see no reason to ever go back here again.

I like First Merchants a lot because of the service. All banks do the same things so customer service is key for me. I am always greeted by name when I walk in and always feel at home when I go to my local branch. That is what keeps me here. I could easily switch to Fifth Third or Chase. But I think it being local also the customer service is why this has been my only bank while living in Indiana.
