Turned out we needed a new chimney cap and some other repairs. After all that and the chilly weather we have been having, I had John book us an inspection and sweep. I didn't want to take any chances with the new house! We scheduled a level II inspection and sweep. There was a wait to get an appointment- but today they were 10 minutes early and took about 40 minutes for the two men to check and clean our chimney. They said it was one of the cleanest they had ever seen! I'm sure the new cap helped- but also they believe the chimney was barely used. The gentleman (Michael) who came into the house was very professional- he removed his shoes, made sure to lay down a drop cloth and even covered the front of the fireplace to keep any soot to a minimum. Our report is very thorough- everything is to code and in good condition. And I currently have a fire blazing even though it's not too chilly out! Had I known the leak was not so much the roof- but a chimney problem, I probably would have had a quote from this company!

The underlying cause of the mold was never properly investigated. The company performed the mold testing and remediation but did not identify the source of the moisture or determine why the mold developed in the first place. They later claimed that I told them not to inspect the HVAC system because it was new. That is incorrect. I simply stated that the HVAC system was new; I never told them not to inspect it. The HVAC system was ultimately not the cause of the problem anyway. What disappointed me most was how the company responded when the mold returned. Rather than offering to reinspect the property, correct the problem, or provide a refund, they placed the blame on me. I gave them an opportunity to resolve the situation, but they only stated that the product they sprayed must have worked because otherwise the mold problem would have been worse. I also later learned that Florida generally prohibits the same company from performing both a mold assessment and mold remediation on the same property within a 12-month period when the work falls under Florida's mold-licensing laws. This company performed both the testing and the remediation. Overall, the mold returned very quickly, the root cause was never identified, and the company made no meaningful effort to correct the problem. Because of the cost of the failed remediation and the company's unwillingness to resolve my concerns, I am now considering my legal options and do not recommend this company.
