I am no stranger to physical therapy as I have endured numerous spine surgeries. With severe back pain several months ago, I was certain my "bulging" disc at L1-2, L2-3 had now herniated and was the culprit for my pain. Instead of going to my neuro-surgeon, location is not very convenient; I paid a visit to my primary doctor. To my surprise, no MRI was ordered and it was believed the disc was not causing my pain. I once again was being sent for physical therapy. While my past experiences weren't bad, I felt good for a short duration of time, always the pain returned. I was not happy but onward I went to Star Physical Therapy. I was glad the location was very close to my house. I would later learn they would alter their schedule to meet my needs for appointments in the early morning hours. I met my therapist Shaaban Hassanein and he was a very nice man. Of course, I came to him right after my doctor appointment (they are in the same building) and was in a lot of pain. As he talked to me, it was apparent he was a man of considerable compassion and he actually felt bad that I felt bad! The goal was to manage, then relieve my pain. As my back issues were caused at the hands of someone else, I was very hesitant and guarded as I didn't want to get hurt again. The initial exercise was very slow and monitored very closely. I would often ask, "I know you won't hurt me BUT can I really bend this way"?? Time and time again I was assured I would be taken care of. I was truly impressed with Shaaban's extensive knowledge and his willingness to tell me what muscle, ligament I was using and how this would benefit me. The fact that he tells you, Great job, I am so proud of you! goes a long way when the exercises are hard to do. I also received deep tissue laser to relieve pain; this was never used in any prior therapy sessions I had. Nassir, my massage therapist, was just as concerned and compassionate as Shaaban regarding my care. His concern was always am I comfortable to lay down for treatment or would sitting in a chair be more comfortable. They make an awesome team for complete care of the patient. I am now in the final weeks of therapy and have to say I am sad that I will not be able to see my new friends three times a week! This is the first time in seven years that some days my pain level is rated 1-2 vs. 8-10. I have learned valuable exercises I can do at the gym or in the comfort of my home. I know if I have further issues, I can always come back to Star Therapy. If you are thinking of using Star, do it, don't delay your healing process! I have been going to Star Physical Therapy since late March and have just finished with my therapy. I have severe lower back pain for several years. I've gone the whole route, ortho docs, chrio, epidural shots and pain meds. Things had gotten worse in the past year so I thought that I would try physical therapy. The therapist, Shaaban, was outstanding. I have learned a great many exercises from stretching to core strengthening. I never realized that intense stretching of the tendons in the legs and into the lower back would make such a difference. My back pain has decreased significantly and when it may flare up (don't lift heavy sofas without help) I know how to get back to normal as a result of the exercises I've learned. And one thing about Shaaban - he is always positive as you learn the routines, saying things like, "perfect, good job, wonderful", even though I believe I could have done better. That positive attitude builds personal self confidence. His assistance, particularly Nasser who worked with me, did an excellent job of providing massage therapy. Once when I had pulled a muscle in my shoulder he worked on it with such vigor that I thought he was going to hurt me but when he was finished the pain was completely gone. I have had this pulled muscle problem before and it would take a week to get better, Nasser did it in 30 minutes! From the moment I stepped in the door until the end of my first session I KNEW Star Physical Therapy is the place to go. Each and every session was personalized, not a one-size-fits-all session. This was my second rotator cuff surgery so I knew kind of what to expect. Was I wrong. They treated me so differently, so welcoming. My sessions began or ended with massage, ultrasound and electric stim. The aides who performed my therapies were so professional and friendly. I did not have this at my first PT facility. This was followed with the exercise/recovery portion of my treatment. Dr. Hassanein is THE best. He is SO caring and understanding. He took time to answer each and every question I had. And believe me I asked a lot of them. Why this? What are we working on and why? His knowledge and understanding of how to best work with each recovery was apparent. Recovering from any surgery takes work, from both parties and knowing what to do, when, is key. I am back to my pre-surgery range of motion. There are only 4 members of the staff and by the end of my recovery I felt like they were family. I ended my treatment 2 days ago and I must admit, I WILL MISS THEM. Especially Dr. Hassanein!!! I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. I will miss my visits and our time together. I would, and have, recommended this place to everyone! read more

This is my second time at Star Physical Therapy. They are the BEST in the Western suburbs. The first time I went to them for help was for a torn meniscus in my knee. They fixed that with exercises and treatment. It prevented my needing surgery. This time I went for severe back pain. I couldn't stand long and it really interfered with my daily activities. Today, my back pain is gone and I am walking straighter, too They used exercise, ultra sound, massage, deep tissue vibration, and something that was like a high quality TENS machine to which they added moist heat. I actually looked forward to going because I felt so good afterwards...almost like I had been to a spa. Also, Dr. Shaaban's demeanor is so professional and his staff members are encouraging and kind. They really care about their patients and that makes a big difference in healing. You never feel rushed while you are there and they seem happy to see you. Parking is plentiful and the agency is easy to locate on the corner of 63rd and Fairview in Downers Grove, IL. I hope I don't need to return to physical therapy, but if I do, I would definitely come back to Star Physical Therapy. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs to do physical therapy for any reason. You will get the help you need by going there. read more

I absolutely love these guys and would highly recommend that you go to them. I was in an accident that resulted in whiplash and it was quite, quite painful. Shabaan (congrats on the Phd btw!) is wonderful - supportive and absolutely determined to get you feeling better and on a healthy road. Nassar works magic with the massage and is quite good at finding those stubborn spots and working them until they give up. I am quite grateful to both of them and feel I would not have gotten the care, patience and respect that I received under their guidance anywhere else. I can honestly say that each time I went to therapy I felt better than when I arrived. Shabaan's and Nassar's secret to healing - true, generous caring and wonderful senses of humor. Star Physical Therapy was recommended by my family doctor, after I hurt my tailbone and back. I was a little skeptical about going to a smaller PT center, but I'm very glad I did. I have gone to other PT chains, but never received the level of attention I received at Star Therapy. The therapist work with you the entire time, to make sure you are doing the stretches and exercises correctly. They ask for feedback at every visit, and make adjustments based on that feedback. At the end of each visit, I received further therapy which included deep tissue massage, ultrasound, stim, and heat. All along I was strongly encouraged to work on my stretches and exercises at home and was given printed material. On my last visit I was given another group of print-outs. We went thru each exercise and was encouraged to write notes. They let me know I could call, write, or come in if I had any questions. I would highly recommend Star Physical Therapy. read more

After I had a medicine pump surgery for chronic pain & spasms from MS, I was referred to Star Physical Therapy. Dr. Shaaban Hass has been an outstanding physical therapist. He has also helped me tremendously with pain management. I notice a big difference in weeks where I haven't been in the clinic compared to how I feel without. His entire staff is so very warm & welcoming just like him when I come into the clinic. It feels more like a family setting than just working on your pt with strangers because you have to. I saw my doctor twice for severe pain (pinched nerve) in my left side neck, shoulder and upper arm due to excessive repetitive computer usage. After taking a one week steroid pack with no relief I agreed to go for PT at Star. I had three appts. each week with the staff. Dr. Shabaan was incredibly knowledgeable of the human body. He is very compassionate about his profession and seeing the patient succeed. The staff is very friendly and caring also. I was given excellent treatments and taught a wealth of exercises, stretching and practices to keep my pain at a minimum. I was also taught proper posture to use while at work on my computer all day and ideal positioning of my keyboard and monitor. After much hard work, the staff at Star PT have given me back my life and hopefully enough knowledge and tools to continue my career. I highly recommend them. read more

Pain in neck causing a great deal of pain when turning to one side. MD recommend I try physical therapy before anything else. Shaaban and staff have helped immensely and are very friendly and knowledgeable. Initial treatments included cupping, ultrasound massage, electric stimulation, and traction. The combination has made the pain go away. Last few visits worked more on strengthening the neck muscles. I have been pretty good about doing exercises at home, which makes a big difference to success of treatments. Limited hours there makes it a little tricky to get in when you need to, sometimes, but it works out. I've been to other therapists over the years who just rely on exercise/stretching and Star's combination of other treatments seems to work very well. Will be back again. read more

When I learned I would need physical therapy to rehabilitate my wrist after fracturing my radius this past September I did not consider going to any other physical therapist. I had had a great experience with Star Physical Therapy in 2008 when I had neck and wrist issues from working all day at a computer. Shaaban and his staff are *terrific*, professional as well as very caring. If anything, my experience this time around was even better than the first. My sessions were very focused, with exercises that challenged me without being overwhelming, and which I could easily replicate on my own at home. I just completed eight weeks of treatment at Star after being referred there for lower back pain and pain in my left hip. This was my first experience with physical therapy and I feel that Dr. Shaaban and his staff did a very good job. The treatment consisted of stretching exercises and massage therapy during each visit and daily exercises at home which I still do. The doctor and his staff were all very friendly and positive during each visit. In addition, they always started right on time--no waiting around in this doctor's office! I would definitely recommend Star Physical Therapy for anyone suffering from chronic pain as a result of arthritis. I was having pain in my right knee after standing up quickly. Physical Therapy was recommended and at Star Physical Therapy I received excellent care. The exercises given were always monitored by a Therapist to be sure they were done correctly. Also, I was assured of my progress by the increased mobility and reduction of pain. I liked that I was never left alone while doing my exercises. Both therapists and the technician took an interest in being sure I could return to my activities which included volunteering at the Arboretum and the Zoo. I was treated as an individual. Dr. Hassanein ("Dr. Hass") and his staff provided me with about 10 weeks of physical therapy for a painful "frozen shoulder". I am impressed with his knowledge, experience, and skill, and his care not to worsen the injury by excessive force. His treatment brought a rapid improvement in range of motion. The pain was more stubborn -common for this condition- but even that improved during the weeks of treatment, and now I'm able to sleep much more restfully. My first time at Star Physical Therapy last year was very successful; Shaaban and his staff worked diligently with me and 'saved' me from having to get an injection for a chronic tendinitis . Both myself and my husband have been patients here. Their comprehensive and individualized care plans were so helpful in our healing process. I had sprained my ankle slipping on ice in January and kept thinking the pain would go away on its own. Flash forward to August and I was still wincing when using the gas and brake pedals in my car. After a few short weeks of thoughtful care, I was feeling much better and back to regular activities. I'm so thankful to have learned the techniques needed to keep strengthening my ankle from home. If you need Physical Therapy this is the place to go. Dr. Hass really knows his stuff and has worked miracles on my back pain. He identified the cause of my problems and immediately started teaching me how to properly stretch and strengthen my back and abdomen. The positive results were almost immediate. I went 2x a week for 8 weeks and my back pain is completely gone. I now have a regimen of proper stretching/strengthening exercises that I can do on my own. I was diagnosed as having a cyst in the back of my left shoulder and was experiencing a great deal of pain. My doctor suggested trying P.T. as an alternative to surgery. I chose Star because they helped my severely strained right knee in early 2012, it has been pain free ever since. I received treatment on my shoulder for one month and it is now pain free. Star combined specific exercises to strengthen and increase flexibility in my shoulder along with electronic stimulation and massage. Surgery is no longer required!
