I had a pleasant first appointment, and the sleep study went OK - but things went downhill after that. I should have figured things out when they were doing (and, of course, charging me for) the dental scanning BEFORE the sleep study. Michelle Brigman was the person who handled my emails and calls. When my results came back and after the doctor stepped in on the zoom call for a few minutes to give his pronouncements, she wanted me to put down a credit card for a $2100 oral device. I told her I wanted to check in with my husband, make sure I had that much available, and not make a rushed decision. She told me that if I didn't want to agree to something during that phone call, I had to sign a waiver saying that I had a medical condition but had refused treatment. It was a full-on pressure sales experience, like buying a car. They ABSOLUTELY knew what they were doing. I was going to do it, too, because the snoring was causing problems with my health - but then she started telling me how to LIE ON MY INSURANCE FORMS. Straight up, giving me information on how to commit insurance fraud to get the answers they wanted to get my insurance to pay them the balance of their oral device. Specifically, I had to state that I had failed on other methods, and that I needed the oral device because I was unable to handle CPAP. She suggested that I say I was unable to tolerate anything on my face during sleep. This was so that they could justify the dental device with my insurance. When I finally asked her if a CPAP was an option, she said she would have to transfer me to another department, because she only handles the dental devices, but that they could get me CPAP for about $1200. That is, nine hundred bucks less than the oral device they were pushing. If I didn't want to give her a credit card number for one or the other DURING THAT PHONE CALL, she said I had to sign a document saying that I refused treatment. I hung up. I called my GP, emailed him the sleep study, and asked him to submit a prescription to cpap.com, and got a CPAP machine for about $850, including the machine, the mask, and extra filters. When I emailed asking for the correct way to make a complaint about my experience, I got no replies. I think they're committing fraud. My doctor said he'll stop referring people to them. read more

I had no issues with scheduling, and the staff was always friendly and polite. That is the good part. The bad part is the cost and outcome. I paid thousands for an oral device to get off my CPAP. Less than a year later, I'm back on the CPAP, paying over $1,000 for that, and now dealing with nearly $6,000 in dental repairs for a cracked tooth and crown repair after treatment. So yes, the office is nice. But nice does not make up for an expensive treatment path that failed and left me with even bigger bills. Ask questions upfront about every charge, every risk, and especially the dental impact of these devices. This experience ended up being far more costly than I was led to expect. read more

I see some mixed reviews on this place and I have to say I am a bit surprised. I have always had great experiences here. I was first referred to Star Sleep & Wellness by my Internal Medicine Doctor when we suspected I might have a sleep disorder. Guess what? After a Sleep Study, I was diagnosed and treated. Getting into the building is not easy if you have wheelchair or mobility issues as the parking spaces are no where near the entrance door. There are doors by handicapped parking spaces but they keep those doors locked. Once inside the reception area was bright and staff helpful. Sabina took us back and did v/s. Andi then took a great history & worked hand in hand with Dr Sherman, he was very Knowledgeable & professional while answering all our questions. Have had my oral device now for about 2 months and went for a follow-up visit with Julianne at the Dallas office. She was exceptionally professional and helpful with my issues and question. I had switched from a CPAP machine from Adapt Health(after 6 months) to an oral device with Star Sleep and the difference in service is night and day! Yesterday, I called twice and left messages for the oral appliance department. No one returned my call. Today, I called again and explained my problem. Received a referral for Dr. Jamieson and Sleep Medicine Associates from my PCP. I've tried for 2 weeks to make an appointment. I have called. I have gone online. I have emailed. I have yet to talk to anyone. I received one email reply for additional information. I immediately replied. Crickets... I emailed again, additional times. Another reply stating they called me to schedule something - a blatant lie, as I only have a cell phone and show no calls from them, or missed messages. I have gone back to my PCP and asked for a different referral. I've told them of my experience and asked that they never refer Sleep Medicine Associates again. As expensive as medical care is, patients deserve more respect than this office is willing to offer. HORRIBLE patient service. RUN AWAY! read more

I have tried numerous times to get a referral for a provider for a new CPAP machine and they have been very unresponsive. Three calls and no call backs. Apparently they do not take Medicare anymore and don't care for patients who are on it. Disappointing. read more

Wish I could give no stars. I have to say this was the worst experience I have had with a medical office. I waited 4 weeks for them to call with an appointment and then I had to call them 4-5 times before getting someone to book me only to be told I had to wait another 2 weeks. Then results came back another week later and tried to book with Dr. Roberts for treatment but you have to have an appointment with a Dr. at their offices even though my referring doctor reviewed the results and recommended treatment, before getting treatment. Got the complete run around saying it was for insurance - which I have - another told me it was for legal purposes - so not sure what is true. Certainly not using their services for anything more!! Wish I had read the reviews prior to starting this very frustrating journey!! One star is almost too good for the services and staff. read more

I have had no issues with this business. After I obtained my referral from my primary physician the process for and initial screening went flawless. My initial screening with the doctor was thorough and I learned a few things during this first visit. I'm sure that each visit is different in regards to what insurance provider you may have. For me my insurance required me to have an at home study conducted first. I was given a thorough tutorial on how to document and conduct my homestudy sleep test. The process was easy. My follow-up visit revealed, as suspected, severe sleep apnea. The doctor quickly scheduled me for a in lab sleep study. The lab sleep study area is quiet, comfortable, and has all the amenities you need for an overnight stay. The staff at night were remarkable and quite pleasant. They made the unusual night of being hooked up so many wires in a strange room feel comfortable. With the results of my sleep test from the sleep lab my doctor reviewed the results to which showed quite an improvement with the assistance of a CPAP machine. I now have a CPAP machine and I am having the best sleep that I've ever had in recent memories. I was very grateful that the staff arranged my visits to ensure all insurance have cleared prior to the study and getting a CPAP machine. This made the process so effortless. I am very grateful for the friendly and informative staff. In short they saved my life! read more

TL;DR: I waited 3 months for an appointment at this Sleep Center, did absolutely everything I was supposed to, and when I arrived at my appointment I was turned away without seeing a doctor because of completely incompetent office staff. They made no attempt whatsoever to reschedule and they've now wasted 3 months of my life that I could have been working with another doctor to cure my debilitating sleep disorder. When my doctor referred me to Sleep Medicine Associates for my increasingly severe, so far untreatable sleep disorder in November of 2015, she told me that they would follow up in a few days about an appointment. They never called. So a week later, I followed up with them (I had to call several times, I was hung up on the first time) and they told me, after falsely claiming that they already contacted me to set up an appointment, that the earliest they could see me was in 3 MONTHS. This sounded absurd to me, but my doctor told me that this was my best option so I decided to wait. My partner and I filled out and submitted all of the required forms and questionnaires in the meantime. My appointment was this morning at 8:00 a.m. I received a call 2 days ago confirming (normal). I took a half day off of work during an EXTREMELY busy time, drove from Denton to Dallas at 6:00 a.m. to beat traffic and arrived at the office half an hour before they opened. I filled out all of the new patient forms and handed them back to the nurse, at which point she told me that my doctor had not submitted an insurance referral and I would have to fill out a waiver that would allow the office to charge me $200 just to be seen. When I asked why I hadn't been notified of this at any point during the three month "waiting period," she went to get another nurse. This new nurse first informed me that they had attempted to get the referral but had no response from my doctor. When I asked again why I hadn't been notified, she changed her story. Now she claimed that the office was "just so busy" and "because of the new year change-over" they now ask for insurance referrals from the PCP on the day of the appointment, which makes absolutely no sense. It also made it clear that they had never asked my PCP for an insurance referral before I showed up for the appointment. I needed to see a doctor today, so I signed the ridiculous form allowing the office to charge me $200. I needed to see somebody just that badly. A nurse, or office staff member, called me to the back. However, she was not there to take my blood pressure. She was there to tell me that she was so, so sorry, but it was now "past my time" and I could not be seen by a doctor today. She explained that the office just has an overwhelming number of patients and they simply couldn't fit me in that morning, despite the fact that I'd been waiting since 7:30 a.m. She also couldn't give me any sort of time frame for when an appointment could be rescheduled, but said somebody would be in touch. If somebody didn't contact me by 4:00 p.m., I should contact them. I drove back to Denton, and I will not be contacting Sleep Medicine Associates ever again. I do not trust an office that is this incompetent and negligent to provide any sort of decent care. Under no circumstances would I ever recommend Sleep Medicine Associates to anyone. read more

After reading the reviews, I was a bit concerned about my initial consultation. The ladies at the front desk were very personable, explained my paperwork and was patient when my attention ran away from me and she had to repeat a page. Traci, Dr. Rosenthal's assistant was super nice, helpful, as well as informative. Dr. Rosenthal, he was personable, asked a lot questions, very thorough. Reading the other reviews it appears to be their standard method of operations. Not a way to run a business or to develop "Trust" which they claim to be their main objective. Sorry.... Claimed they'd make a referral two months ago. As of now, haven't sent anything to get clearance with insurance, won't return phone calls, apparently have done nothing. Claimed they'd made phone calls and could look at their records to be sure, but much like Ron D., there are no calls from them on my husband's phone, so we know they made no calls to him. Kept saying they were sorry I "feel that way" and apparently not capable of apologizing for failing to return any of the very polite messages my husband left. (He's polite, that's why I made the last call, I'm not.). Even when I directly said that what I really wanted was an apology to my husband for failing to return his calls, just said they couldn't fix the problem on the phone with me. Like they were doing anything to fix the problem anyway. There's another sleep doctor in Denton, use them, they're great. read more

BEWARE! This has to be one of the worst ever experiences i have ever encountered with a doctors office. It all started when i decided to take an at home sleep study test with a dental office that the business subcontracted with to see if the dental device the offered was a good fit for my sleep apnea condition. The test and the results were suppose to be $460 and some change. I was shocked when i got a bill immediately after the visit before even getting my results for 700.00 even. What an odd price for a medical bill. The original office called me back and said my case was too bad to use the dental device and that Sleep Medicine Associates Of Texas would be contacting me soon the schedule an appointment to go over my results and start a medical plan for me. They called and set everything up and when i arrived for my appointment, to my shock and surprise their office was completely cleaned out and no one to be found. I tried calling them and got a no longer in service signal tone. There is no way they are getting their money. I don't know if these people are scam artist or criminals. Probably just terrible people like most of the medical industry. read more

I have never given a place of business a one star review, but this place deserves it! I went to pick up the machine for a home sleep study and the young man in their office was completely uninterested!! He quickly ran through the instructions on how to use it and abruptly asked if I had any questions. He acted like I was a nuisance. I felt awful when I left! This machine was not easy to use. I wound up just giving up and taking it back the next day. I told them what happened and they just said, "okay ". I never even received a follow up phone call from anyone there. I recently made an appointment with a sleep center in Irving, and they gave me the care I needed and deserved. Don't even bother with this facility. Your sleep health is just too critical! read more

Dr. Becker is difficult to communicate with. His medical assistant took my whole history with her back to me so she could put it into the computer at the same time. Guess she learned customer service and communication skills from Dr. Becker. Front office staff and Billing office very personable. I got my cpap machine and feel great but I feel like it is ridiculous.......go to the office so they can ask how you're doing.....but you have to play the game to get the supplies. read more

TL;DR: The scheduling process is a total nightmare. They are one of the few sleep specialist groups in town and they operate as if they know it - customer service is a severely lacking. I left messages to schedule and they were never returned. I got a referral from my physician (another sleep specialist) and he just sent the referral for the first doctor on their list. Finally they called me back! That physician operates from all their locations but only see patients with my disorder at the location that is very far from my home. I asked to be placed with one of the partners at the location near me but they said that they can not schedule in with another physician, only the name listed on the referral. Keep in mind, my insurance does not even require a referral in the first place. So I got a second referral for the physician that operates in the location nearest to me. They misplaced the new referral and told me that they never received it. I called my referring physician and they said that they called prior to faxing to make sure the number was correct AND they had the confirmation it was received. Called the scheduler and she said that she didn't have the referral and refused to reach out to the referring physician to see what happened to the referral. I had to call my referring physician again and they had to send a third referral in order for me to be scheduled. I pay good money to have insurance that does not require referrals and this place has me spending so much time on the phone calling back and forth that I almost think they should be paying me to see one of their physicians. Who has time for this? I'm still yet to see the physician. I will update and hopefully have something good to say.... read more

Other than having to wait two months to be seen, this group is a great group of physicians that are dedicated to helping you sleep better. They are straight forward with their approach. The medical professionals are attentive and seem truly caring. However, the customer service from the scheduling and office people is terrible. My referring doctor and I have known for 6 weeks that my sleep apnea is so severe that my health and well being is in danger. I fall asleep driving. My O2 level when I sleep is 60% and I stop breathing over 75 times an hour. Every medical professional I've seen knows I need a CPAP, but here I am, 6 weeks out and still waiting. The scheduling people are lazy and inflexible. They make you wait 2 weeks for insurance to pre-auth a sleep study, another 2 weeks to pre-auth a doctor visit and yet another 2 weeks to pre-auth the CPAP itself. This procedure is in place to make their lives easier; patient be damned. I have pushed my group health carrier to do urgent pre-auths at every turn and they (UHC) have done so. I don't think it's taken more than 2-3 business days to get any of it pre-authed. But when I call these people and tell them the pre-auth was approved and try to get the scheduled appointments changed to an earlier date, I get an initial stonewall. When I pressure them I get excuses why they can't reschedule me. You'd think this place would be so busy that the couldn't possibly squeeze me in early. NOT THE CASE. I went to visit the doctor after my overnight sleep study in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday. I was there for an hour and I was amazed to find that I was the ONLY patient there. I must have counted 10-15 employees wandering around, and no one seemed too stressed and no one seemed to be in a particular hurry to do anything. So THIS IS NOT A BUSY PRACTICE. The medical professionals who run this practice need to address this uncaring attitude and the flat out laziness of their office staff and make appropriate changes. A practice should be focused on the patient, not on making life easier for the staff. read more

The sleep study staff are very friendly and nice with your initial evaluation sleep study. Never had any problems getting an appointment. I took off work early to go to a 4:10 follow up appointment. It was raining and driving in bumper to bumper traffic which took me 1 hour to drive 20 miles on 75 south to Dallas from McKinney. I got there at 4:20 and the girl at the front said that I was late and she will have to check if they will still see me. I am thinking ......What? She came back and said I would have to make another appointment. What? I thought I was the customer/ patient and I was only late 10 minutes, sorry I was an inconvenience to them and they must have more patients than they need so they turn me away. So I left thinking that this was rude and wrong for them to turn me away. I will probably get a bill in the mail. Do I need to say more? Who pays who for their service and sleep test? read more

My experience with TX Sleep Medicine has not been a pleasant one. I had my initial consultation with Monique and got scheduled for a sleep test. I was scheduled for a 9:00 pm appointment. I showed up on time and was lead into the room I'd be sleeping in. The tech kept poking his head in and saying he'd be right with me. It was past 11:00 when he finally came in and hooked me up to all the electrodes. It was almost midnight before I finally laid down. I was woken up at 5:00 am the next morning and went home. The following week I had a follow up visit to go over my results. Monique came in and was quite pleasant and told me that according to my results, I had pretty bad sleep apnea. However, it was her opinion that I would have to take another sleep study because the techs failed to put an air mask on me during the test so they couldn't make any comparison in my sleep with or without it. She said she'd hate to order the equipment if it was determined that it didn't help with my sleep apnea. Ok................. this upsets me. I have to go back and do another sleep test because they failed to do my test correctly. Mind you, after insurance, I had to pay over $600+ for my sleep study, plus a $125 consultation fee. During my last visit Monique went ahead and scheduled me for my second sleep test. She said someone would call me after they checked with my insurance about certification and approval for a second sleep test. Four days go by and I still hadn't heard back from anyone. I finally contacted their office and was told that they still hadn't checked with my insurance for approval - that it was still pending. So if I hadn't called to check on the status of my insurance, there's a very big possibility that I would have ended up paying 100% of my second visit because they never got approval from my insurance. I went ahead and cancelled my second sleep test. I don't think I should have to spend another $600+ because of someone else's mistake. I feel that all this was a waste of time and money. I was told I have sleep apnea, which I already suspected. I learned nothing new about my condition. I am no better now than I was before I had my sleep test. I am, however, now down about $800+ for nothing. I may as well have thrown my money in the trash. Needless to say, I will not be returning to them again. read more

I've seen two doctors here and liked them both. What I did not like was the hassle of scheduling appointments and getting equipment. They used to have equipment people on-site who were SMA employees. Now you need to schedule a second visit weeks after your initial consultation. It seems unnecessary. Also, I had difficulty scheduling appointments and changing appointments. On hold for ridiculous amounts of time where you just hang up after ten minutes. read more

I have talked to several people in the office, none of whom are actually able to schedule the appointment. I keep being told that I have to talk to the schedule coordinator with whom I have left several messages but never actually talked to personally. I keep being told that she is on the phone or out of the office. I have been left on hold for 10-30 minutes several times with the understanding that I was next in line to talk with the coordinator. However, each time, I have been disconnected by the office before actually getting to talk with her. Very frustrating. Beware of this business and Dr. Rosenthal!! They will gladly set you up a CPAP machine and tell you your 100% covered by your insurance. I asked this question no less than 10 times and they said they would get it covered by insurance....they did not. It was both the Dr. and the tech that setup the machine that kept telling me that it would be covered. It didn't feel right, but I fell for it and once you take it your are literally screwed. My wife works in the insurance side of the business and tried all she could to get this resolved. In the end the insurance paid $0 after being told the devices should have been obtained through one of their durable medical device providers. I refused to pay the bill after being repeatedly lied to and they sent me to collections in 2013 which I just found out about this month. Now I have that nasty mark on my credit history and someone supposedly trying to collect, although I have never received anything. I found it on my credit report. I thought you could trust doctors uphold their oath. Ruining someone's credit over lies or misinformation is just wrong and should be the patients choice not a medical specialist that just so happened to be on the list containing doctors on insurance plan. not to mention the stupid machine didn't help at all and I ended up getting a very good doctor to implant an Aspire device to control my sleep apnea.
