I felt their pricing is reasonable and I really like that they offer a free rescan if your car doesn't pass the first time which I was nervous about since my car an older Toyota. They did have a fridge with diet sodas and because I don't drink diet sodas I didn't get one, but I thought it was a nice gesture. Raj was the one who took care of my car and he did a great job. I gave him my key. He moved my car into place and then moved it back back so that I could exit, the yard easily. I sent out a Yelp quote request and Remi (owner) responded with the most detail in comparison to other businesses. He let me know what the cost would be and where to find if I needed star certification on the paper from the DMV. This place was a little pricier, but I felt that Remi was straightforward with the pricing and what it included and where to find out what I needed. Other places did not include any detail on what was included in the price (so who knows how that price might have increased once they saw the DMV form). They also let me know that they would send the certification straight to the DMV and provide me with a Paper copy. They do not take appointments, when I got there Ken helped me and let me know he was finishing up one truck and then would be with me. Once it was my turn it took less than 15 mins. I originally went to Smog express on San Pablo Ave. I always take my vehicles to Smog express, the staff are friendly and fast. However, the DMV system was down for older cars. The staff suggested to check with there other location on 23rd. I called Star Smog Express on 23rd, to find out if the system was available before I drove there. Ken was very rude. I asked him if the system was available for older cars he said no. I asked him has the system been down for a few days. He replied he don't know, he just work there. I asked him is there anyone I can talk to that knows he said no. He said there are many Smog shops you go to around here. I was still at Smog Express as I was speaking to him. I started telling the staff how rude he was to me. I asked for the owner name and how can I reach the owner. All of a sudden, Ken called me back and said he check the system and it is running. Instead of taking my business else where, I decided to give him a try. I was nice to him, I told how rude he was over the phone. He apologized and started to work on the vehicle. I DONOT recommend this location. It took more than 15 minutes. The emissions test passed completely. He fail the visual inspection. He said the owner raised the prices. There was no sign listed with the new prices. I paid 107.00 including the $20 off. I had a bad experience. I could have went to many other places but I chose to stay with the same company. Not an honest business. On July 18th, my brother called in to ask the price for a 2009 Toyota matrix. They told my brother, "it will be 60 dollars is that a good price for you." My brother replied "ok, i will send over my mother to get a smog check." On July 21, 2022 only three days later when my mother schedule was opened up so she took her car in. After her service she decided to call me and told me they charged her 80 dollars for a smog check. She told me to call back to this location. I don't know who picked up my phone call but i gave them the same information, which was a 2009 Toyota matrix and he said it will be 89 dollars. The pricing is inconsistent and the price jump from 60 to 80 and then to 89 dollars within 3 days is very suspicious. For those out there who's reading this, if you ever decided to come here just make sure they have a set price. They can up-charge you depending on their mood i guess. Not professional. Called Star Smog Express to get a price quote on my smog check so I can do a DMV registration renewal. Asked them on the phone if they still honor the coupon from their website. They said yes and gave me a quote so I said I'm going to get the smog in a few hours. Arrived at the shop and told them I called and discussed the coupon from their website. The guy wrote up the work order and started to perform the smog test. I checked my order paper and it didn't have the price quoted on the phone or in person. He started to give me lame excuses like "your vehicle is large so we can't apply the coupon". I looked again on their website, it says coupon covers all vehicles. Does my SUV not fit in the category of "all vehicles"?? Lastly, he continues to give me the lame excuses like "I've already wrote up the work order so it can't be changed even if I wanted". Hmmm so once written on paper, its permanent and nothing can be changed even if they are in the wrong? This business is dishonest. They may smile, but be careful.
