Such a good experience this Sunday at Smog Express. It was pretty busy when I arrived with it being one of the few smog places open on Sunday. Raj did a great job manning the whole place on his own - keeping an eye on who came in and keeping everyone in order of arrival, and moving through each car fast and efficiently. My car was challenging to connect to the computer, and he found a quick fix to get it connected and kept moving forward efficiently. The service technician Felix assisted me on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was professional and polite in his service. Star smog regulations for a 1986 Mustang is much more involved and time consuming than newer vehicles. I understand there are many different car makes and motors and every technician can not know every stock component that came on each car. With that being said, Felix was open to me explaining about stock parts on my vehicle and double checked that they are smog legal. CA has made it extremely difficult for those of us with clean running older vehicles to complete smog checks. He offered a quote and logistics info. No appointment necessary. I asked, "How long does a smog check usually take?" Reply: "For your vehicle, 20 minutes." I was at the shop the following morning at 11:42AM & took a photo of the rates (see upload). It's a small parking lot of three spots, but there's street parking if needed. One customer was sitting in the waiting room (checking out his car through the office door to the one-car garage). Though there was no one at the desk, there was a small sign that indicated to take a seat and someone help shortly. The wait wasn't too long: within 5-10 minutes, the tech came in, greeted me, and handed me a small intake form. He checked out the previous customer while I was filling out the form. A minute later, he's got the completed form, my DMV paperwork, and car keys. I was able to do work in the waiting room with the radio playing in the background. The time went by quickly: the car passed smog, DMV paperwork was sent off, and the credit card transaction timestamp on my receipt said 12:03AM. Came on Veterans Day on a Friday, they were open normal hours. Still there were two cars in front of me so it was about a 30 minute wait. The reviews are true though, the waiting room is nice. I went to Smog Express in Richmond today to get my 2013 Toyota Corolla smog checked so that I could register it. I received excellent service and it only took them 15 minutes to check my car. I did have to go after 4 other cars, but I was OK with that because I was told that when I called them to see if it was possible to get my car checked there.
