If you don't want to get the paper you should subscribe. I got more deliveries when I wan not a subscriber. Seems the delivery person delivers to only those who do not subscribe. Waste of money. It is Tuesday and the Sunday paper just arrived that I complained on Sunday and Monday about not receiving. I choose a paper copy not a digital source. You are making yourself irrelevant. Ordered their paper through a sponsorship to get a wild sweatshirt, the lady told me that since I paid cash I wouldn't have any auto renew or any issues to worry about... she lied to me. Star tribune calls me monthly trying to get me to subscribe and telling me I have a balance due. Last time I spoke with someone they told me they would get me on the do not call list and that they got rid of my balance... low and behold they call me today about the same stuff and still refuse to get this issue sorted out. They told me a supervisor would be reaching out to me shortly and they never did. I have no interest in this overly bias news outlet that has been slowly crumbling to the ground. Commission based sellers start subscription when was not requested. When I called in 2014, I was told it was free and to just keep it. Turns out we were billed for a month. No one here subscribed! But I refused to pay their bill and they turned it into collections. Okay, so I should have known better, right! No Free Lunch. Crooked SCAM COMMISSION BASED STAR TRIBUNE TELEMARKETERS. Now 3 years later I receive another Sunday paper and after waiting 53 minutes for them to answer and using 2 different phone numbers, I finally get an answer. I am told politely that it was sent in error, that we have no subscription and to just keep it as "Free." I said that already happened to us and wanted the delivery man to pick it up and she said that is not going to happen. I have the name of the delivery man and will be filing a complaint with him again, as received the paper by mistake a few months ago, as delivered to the wrong address. I did not appreciate the so-called "Free" paper in 2014 that was not free, received invoice for, refused to pay, and was turned into collections. Was something like only $5., but it is the principle of the thing! The quality of the newspaper is not in question, it is the telemarketers and the circulation department that is crooked. I did not complain the first time. I should have known better, right. This time I'm asking them to have the delivery man pick up the paper they incorrectly dropped off at our address. This was a wonderful paper at one point. I don't know when exactly it changed. Maybe it was along with so many other places that turned to click-bait, outrage rags, getting the "Trump bump" in ratings. Maybe it's just the progressive push in this town. Either way, ever since starting to reprint as many NY Times, Wash Post, etc. articles on front page as they do their own; even the pieces they do have been partisan, borderline lies & propaganda/conspiracy/division pushing. Nearly the whole paper, but certainly the fronts and advertised pieces, are leaning to one narrative. Even the ones that are willing to point out some of the concerns and things from a different perspective, are still laced with constant mentions of race, racism. Ex. A recent piece on the "Floyd Zone", where they actually address concerns of property owners & residents, of violence, danger, hurting business-is still laced with the division & bs. Rather than highlight the struggles of some of the "People of Mpls", the piece has to point out "this black person, that black person". And not just a "ignoring the white people" thing. It's an "ignoring hundreds of other nationalities, races, religions, the large native population & seperating us" type of thing. This has been an amazing city, and an example to the nation for years on what multicultural means. To read through an average edition of The Star Trib & you'd think we're Mississippi, 2 years removed from desegregation. I even see articles and pieces, comments, which are pushing forward the new push FOR segregation of late. No, its not filled with lies. What it is, is the tiny partison comments left in every article. Things like Times article re-printed which, I don't see opinion listed on it. Yet, is filled with talking points & arguments straight from the political mouth. Set up in a way to appear as though its definitive. Fine, it's news. It's what you do. But when every paper I pick up has a front page and major pieces filled with, what seems to be non-stop explanations of racism or something about race. Even the ones not "about race", seem to always have at least a couple comments leading people into a certain opinion. Not long ago I seen a page and half puff piece on person who burned the police station. Painted him as the saintliest, saint there is. Then a 2 page spread on doorknob Mike Lindell, which was basically just a reason to write about "baseless allegations" & "dozens of thrown out cases". Have to do your part in making that a fact in people's brains, without the rest of the context. I.e. most those cases were never actually seen. Just tossed on procedural grounds. The type of stuff that can be left out, still be "truthful", yet frames stories in a certain direction for the consumer. Whatever your political leanings are, this new-age, full-throttle, just about tabloids levels of trying to take advantage of people's impulsiveness when they are angry, charged up, or generally emotional. Just to make a few more bucks. I know news has always had this side of it. It just feels like their used to be at least enough good outlets, like The Star Tribune of old, that would give you the story, and let us decide and figure things out ourselves. I also know this will be dismissed, ignored and/or outright painted as "misogyphobacism". But it's the truth, you know it, and it's what's truly adding to division and incitement of things. If you are thinking of placing a classified ad, be warned-they WILL straight up scam you. I went by their offices to place a classified ad. I was told by the receptionist that the guy was going to talk to me over the phone. In retrospect, I should have walked out right then and there. The guy couldn't come to the lobby to talk to me and he expected me to give him my credit card over the phone. HE WAS IN THE SAME BUILDING! I WAS SPENDING MONEY TO BUY THEIR PRODUCT! But noooo... he couldn't come to the reception desk and swipe my card there. I knew I couldn't get that level of classified ad exposure elsewhere so I tolerated this classlessness, this act straight out of Shadiness 101. The guy told me my card was approved and I went on with my business. So now it's a day later and I'm waiting on a police officer to arrive so I can file a fraud report. I get a call from a woman claiming to be working for the Star-Tribune saying my credit card was declined. At first it seemed like every thing was on the level, I gave her my credit card information so she could run the card again. But the longer we talked, I kept hearing a baby crying in the background, and I was thinking maybe it was someone working from home. But then we get off the phone & I get a call from another woman who claims to work for my credit card company. I hang up on her, call my credit card company, and they say that they didn't try to call me and the charges were approved the previous day. Soo... yeah. Keep in mind my ad has not began to run yet, so only Star-Tribune employees would have my phone number & credit card information. With business ethics like that, what more do you need to know? read more

We have called, left messages and been told it is kicked to highest level and still no paper. Should we switch papers or go to reading online only? My review is strictly limited to the Star Tribune's billing practices, which are unconscionable. My credit card was stolen and so my automatic payments didn't go through. The company never contacted me to update my billing information. Not once. Instead, they sent the outstanding amount owed to a debt collector. I would have continued subscribing, but I was not pleased with the way they handled the situation. When I asked to cancel and have them call off the debt collector, they refused unless I paid my outstanding balance. I was worried about my credit score, so I felt like I had no choice but to pay the outstanding amount. I'm incredibly disappointed because I value local journalism and the outstanding work of the Star Tribune's reporters. The institution needs to revisit the way it handles subscriptions to ensure they treat their customers equitably. You would think they would try to hang on to the customers they have but they don't seem to care. My newspaper has not been delivered quite frequently. I call I get the voice mail. They ask if I want a paper delivered still---I say yes. But they don't deliver it and out of perhaps 12 times when the recording says they will bring a paper only once did they actually do so and then they left it at the neighbor's house instead of mine. Online they give you opportunity to get hep for delivery problem. I use menu to pull down relevant complaint. I get message "you have selected an invalid complaint". There is no way you can give the company feedback because they don't care. Never once does a manager call and perhaps apologize for the paper missed frequently. I don't think they actually have managers there. Of course when the paper IS delivered it is dropped at the end of the driveway so that one of us must get fully dressed on Sunday morning to go get it. Absolute extortion! I had a subscription and when the subscription ran out, I didn't renew. Got a phone call today saying that they were charging me $30 because I had not called to cancel. My contract was over so why am I being asked to pay for services I did not agree to? Then the reality ... she was calling to extort additional weeks of subscription services from me at their full rate. If I didn't pay today, they were sending my account to a collection agency. In December of 2017, I signed up and paid in advance for a one year online and Sunday paper subscription at a Minnesota Wild game. Never got the Sunday paper, the app and online service were ok. Got called at the end of the year and said I wanted to cancel as I never received the Sunday paper. A year and 5 months after the phone call, I get a notice from Biehl & Biehl collection agency saying I owe for $75.67 for 16 months of service. I paid the collection agency then called the Star Tribune to verify my subscription was cancelled. Star Tribune representative confirms they have the correct address and tells me they sent five notices to my address (I didn't receive any notice -- the notices are probably sitting somewhere with 2 1/2 years of my Sunday paper). I'd love to see the split of revenue generated from active customers versus how much they bilk from customers who tried to cancel their accounts. read more

We have restarted our subscription to the Star Tribune. About a month ago. for daily Star Tribune delivery. We have gotten the paper MAYBE 4-5 times. I call every few days. They will look into it. Totally bogus. Can't believe these clowns. I get some mailer with a deal for Sunday delivery. I try to logon to their website, and it won't let me. Their website is totally useless, and it constantly gives you the run around. I, finally, call up these clowns wanting to pay my bill. After sending in the mailer, I get a bill for $25.74 in the mail. After waiting on the hold for ten minutes, I get some bozo who barely speaks English. She informs me thatn in addition to the $25 bill I got, I would need to pay some $6 activation fee. Nowhere on the bill or anywhere else can I find a mention of any activation fee. Needless to say, I told her to go fuck herself. You think I'm paying an activation fee? Get real Star Tribune. I hope you clowns go out of business. Oh, wait, I might not to wait that long. Update: I got yet another mailer from these guys for Sunday delivery, and I decided to go with it. This time, however, I signed up and paid online. I didn't have to pay some ridiculous god damn activation fee. I paid exactly what was quoted in the mailer. I'm quite happy with things as of now. I got a free $10 off Target gift card for signing up, and I always love to use the coupons for food and groceries--I don't care if I seem cheap when I chekout. That's because I am cheap. If the shoe fits, you should wear it. Also, I like that on some Sunday deliveries I've gotten buy-one-get one coupons for places like Leanne Chins and Smashburger, which has, also, saved me quite a bit of coin. read more

The last 4 Fridays no paper. No one can tell me why, I am even having a problem getting a credit for the no delivery. WARNING - if you have home delivery and decide to put your paper on "hold" for a vacation - you WILL be charged for the first 7 days of your vacation hold - even if you don't receive it. That is their policy. They say that you can use their TERRIBLE on-line version while on vacation - FOR FREE - how nice of them. Maybe I don't want to read their biased reporting while on vacation. Maybe I don't like how the site takes me to ads before determining that I am a subscriber and that I have my ID automatically set. Maybe I don't like how their web version jumps around because it is so full of different sized ads that rotate. Maybe I just don't want to be charged for a paper that am not going to receive. Really hard to distinguish from other urban papers- they just repackage syndicated material, and the local coverage of "style" and the like focuses on the parochial interests of a few sad urbanite wannabes from the coffee houses and local former-industrial loft redevelopment projects. So there is the forced hep-ness and the predictable stale received wisdom that washes up from both coasts. But how is that different from any of a dozen other papers? The feature columnists are pretty decent - James Lileks has broken out into national awareness from this paper. I do luv luv luv the comments by one of the reviewers below about "third-tier suburbanites" bitching in the letters to the editors. There is a special flavor of arrogance, tempered with a comical lack of self-awareness, that one can only find among the Misunderstood Genius Youths of midwest urban areas. Is it the water? Then when I call to have an undelivered paper, redelivered, I never get it. This Sunday, 12/20/20, I called three times, and still never got a paper. They claim they provide a credit but I'm not real sure how they credit me. It wouldn't be monetarily, as I don't have an ongoing subscription, and I don't get an extra day added to my current subscription. Even the customer service person I talked to was condescending. He wouldn't listen to what I had to say and just continually talked over me. It was almost like one of those robo calls. When this subscription runs out, I will not be renewing. I had subscribed at my current location for 2+ years with no delivery problem then suddenly their delivery people can't get the paper where it's supposed to be so I dropped it in April. Getting rid of Nick Coleman was a really poor choice. His columns were one of the last quality things left in the Star Tribune. The two columnists who replaced him are quite sadly bland. Also, C.J. always makes me realize what a hilariously small city Minneapolis is, because her gossip is just pathetic. Oh my god, our weatherman was with a mistress? A news anchor wasn't wearing a ring? Britney Spears got her nails done? I couldn't live without this information. Quality of the paper is okay, but then I tend to read more of the AP stuff than the regular columns. If you are a new customer, you can get a good deal for 6 months of delivery service. After that, they start charging you MORE than what you would pay for the paper at the grocery store. Carrier service seems hit or miss. I had horrible service (as in, I had to look for my newspaper in the bushes sometimse) at my old place, but the new place had great paper carrier. I cancelled my subscription due to the horrible carrier at the old place and decided to give the Strib another try recently. My major concern has to do with sales calls. I had an unlisted number. I got the occassional sales call (maybe 2-3 times per year) , but about two months after subscribing to the Star Trib, I started getting tons of sales calls - as in 1-2 per night. I don't know for sure that they sell customer info to other companies and it COULD be a coincidence, but it's a heck of a coincidence. I'm not going to renew my subscription with them. read more
