I stopped by the Starbucks February 5 during Black History Month and I am in fact, African-American. I wanted to use the restroom first, and realized there were signs on the door that said they were for customers only. Correct me if I'm wrong but legally as a public establishment, you must offer a public restroom. Also, from my understanding all Starbucks allow the public to use their restrooms since their huge scandal from years ago. Nonetheless, I stood at the counter( assuming the restrooms were locked) for five minutes as three employees walked past me, standing at the counter. After about seven minutes an employee walked out from the back kitchen and walked right past me through the lobby outside. There was no line and one car at the window that had just been helped within the first three minutes of me, standing at the counter. Finally, one lady walked up to me and asked how I could be helped. I asked to use the restroom. She said well you actually have to purchase something to use the restroom. I said OK can I order something?(I asked inquisitively due to the fact that I was standing there for almost 10 minutes before being helped.) she said sure what would you like? I ordered a cake pop, and as I was going to pay for the cake pop, a man rushed through the Starbucks door sped through the lobby straight to the restroom. I turned and looked at the cashier and said he didn't have to purchase anything to use the restroom? She responded and said oh I think he was already here.(although this explanation still did not meet the necessary requirements to purchase an item before using the restroom.) I proceeded to use the restroom after purchasing my cake pop, and unfortunately, as I went to wash my hands, there was no soap! This is extremely disheartening. Went back hoping it would get better. They weren't busy and I was the only person when I walked in. No one greeted me. I said good morning and no one responded. I went to pick up my drink and was ignored. I stood at the counter for a few minutes before someone would even acknowledge me. I asked for my drink to be filled up because it wasn't even full. She didn't say a word to me but did it and walked away. I tried to be very nice because I know sometimes working in customer service can be a lot but these people are just rude. read more

Terribly unreliable hours. This is the second time I've been there in 2 months when the store was closed during normal business hours. Today, June 15th, the store allegedly closed at 3PM. I walked over 2 miles to get my drink (not their fault), and was sweating to the point where my eyes were watering from stinging when I walked in at 4:15. They had apparently closed, but not locked the door. I asked if I could get some tissue from the restroom, and was told no. Why keep the door open to customers for over an hour if the store is closed? As soon as I left, they locked the door behind me. No other customers were in the store. Smaller location, long wait time if morning or afternoon or any other commuter times plan at least 15 minutes. The inside is a little tight in the back of you plan on staying there all you will hear is the other tables talking. You also have to watch where you stand as people are coming from all directions and it's tight. I never had issues with getting wrong item but my girlfriend and other I see while waiting regularly due. Drinks are well made although I had some Frappuccino's that they forgot to wash out completely leaving the wrong taste of Carmel mixed in with my mocha java chip. read more

I hate air conditioning. I hate how loud it is. I hate dressing for hot weather only to walk into an air-conditioned building wishing I had a sweatshirt. I hate being sick from hot and cold extremes. I hate when I've already cooled down and the air conditioning is still running and leaves me freezing. I. Hate. Air conditioning. Go ahead. Disagree with me. I don't mind. I admit the cold blast of air does feel good when it hits my sweaty skin, but the novelty wears off after five seconds. Then I shiver and crave the heat. Even when I'm in hot, muggy Florida, I can't stand air conditioning. Especially in my shorts. In the car. On a very, very long road trip. That said, I was in a car for a very long road trip with the air-conditioning on full-blast for hours while I was dressed in short shorts and a tank top for the Florida heat. I was cold and miserable. And exhausted. I needed a warm, caffeinated pick-me-up. I expressed this desire to the others in the car and we pulled into this Starbucks moments later. I jumped out of the car, -- the sweatshirt I was wearing was heavy in the heat -- ran into the bright and clean building, and ordered a Chai tea. "Hot or cold?" asks the perky Barista. "Hot! Please!! I'm so cold!" And from there, we had a five-minute conversation about Florida heat and air-conditioning. Everyone in the place was friendly and happy, I felt completely at ease, which isn't something I usually say about a Starbucks. BRRRRRR. This Starbucks is c-c-c-cold! I go to this Starbucks whenever I'm in Gainesville visiting my uncle's family or to see a game because it's literally walking distance from his house. The decoration and layout changed somewhat over the years, but the friendliness and fast service remained constant. Standard Starbucks inventory (acceptable coffee, expensive special drinks, mediocre prepacked sandwiches that I can't stop buying), but the baristas and management are really what make this location shine. It's not a local coffee shop (or the downtown location), but it doesn't try to be, and I honestly prefer this atmosphere better. I've seen random acts of kindness often from these baristas, and it's always a morning pick up just walking in to get my order. This location has events and programs constantly, giving it a unique feel and a wonderful atmosphere. It's busy, so instead of the regular occasionally-ruined-by-a-blender-silence of other locations, this one has a white noise of barista, customer, and coffee-making chatter. Today, I walked in and before I made it to the counter one Barista saw me, recognized me, and had my sandwhich in hand. Starbucks is like a well oiled machine. I visit this location at least 3 times a week. Their app allows me to order ahead of time, so as soon as I get to the store my coffee is ready to go and paid for. It really is the best option for a speedy and delicious cup of coffee. I rarely review Starbucks (because honestly, a Starbucks is a Starbucks) but this one gets some special treatment. I've come here a few times before and always been happy. This location has decent seating (not a whole lot but better than others I've been to) and good lighting, so it's a nice study place. But my FAVORITE part about this Starbucks is the service. Every time I've gone in there, they've been so friendly. Last time I went, I was heading out of town to Orlando late and wanted to get some caffeine. The store closed at 10 but I got there at 10:05. Even so, they let me in and made me a latte! And they were SO nice about it! My Starbucks at home (Miami) would NEVER do that. All-in-all, quality establishment! read more

**WARNING: A heartfelt review ahead!!** First visit to Gainesville was a whirlwind and Starbucks on 39th Ave was our home base. We were so confused by the grid system streets, but we based everything in relation to this Starbucks. Since then we have managed to live within a 3 mile radius and have become quite fond of the entire staff. We are the kind of customers that sneak in with 3 minutes before close to grab a pound of beans for the morning and they always accommodate with warm smiles and conversation. What can I say - it's Starbucks. The regulars come and stake out the tables, for hours, so you better be prepared to sit outside, regardless of the weather. Magnolia Park is a bit of a trek for us students. But, as Starbucks shops go, this one is pretty good. It closes a little earlier (indicitive of the clientele on that side of town), and it's a little more laid-back than the Downtown or Archer Rd. shops. How this place got 4 stars is beyond me. The staff is unfriendly and likes to roll their eyes at your orders. If you bring them in more than one coffee order they scoff at you and say "really?! The customer service here is great! Seriously, one of the male baristas here makes the best/most consistent vanilla iced coffee. Everyone is pleasant and friendly. The service is prompt. My only minor complaint is the cleanliness: the seating areas are a little untidy at times but that's typical with high traffic locations. Other than that, there's plenty of seats, workspace, and outlets. Great place to study or meet for coffee.
