Certainly not the quaint - dare I saw cool? - little cafe that is now. With branded merchandise, an espresso machine, and plants literally livening up the place, it seems that old dogs *can* learn new tricks! Or at least get new owners. Looking for a lunch that isn't fast food or a slice of pizza isn't an easy thing on a Monday in Pictou County, but I was glad when The Coffee Bean came to mind. Driving down just before noon to beat the lunch rush, I arrived to the remnants of the late morning coffee crew that were already situated, and no line in front of me. Perfect timing! I opted for the intriguing Mexican grilled cheese and an iced Americano to beat the heat. After a few minutes wait, I had my food and coffee in hand and hit the road home. My grilled cheese had a nice golden brown finish, and coming wrapped in paper kept it from steaming and getting too too soggy on the drive home. It was filled with a melty mix of cheeses, as well as a generous portion of diced onion, bell pepper and tomato, along with just the slightest hint of heat. The fresh veg added a pleasant brightness and crispness. The ice in the Americano barely lasted in the summer heat by the time I got home, but I appreciated that it wasn't 80% ice and 20% coffee like some. It's great to see new life breathed into The Coffee Bean, and I hope it continues to serve New Glaswegians (yes, that's our demonym), for yet another generation.

I chose well when I bought a delicious baked flourless granola bar. I am gluten intolerant and prefer healthier choices so this was the best option for me. My husband chose an egg and cheese sandwich on toasted fresh bread. The prices were reasonable, the service was prompt and the staff were friendly. I was disappointed with my Americano since it tasted bitter and "dirty" when it cooled down a little. I didn't finish it.

I went with the breakfast BLT ($6.50) and a large drip coffee, while my other half opted for the soup and biscuit combo ($6.50). Our food came out very quickly and my BLT was a great example of this classic sandwich: the salt and savouriness of the crisp bacon, bright acidity of the tomato, plus the added richness of a fried egg. My wife was a big fan of her potato and bacon soup - piping hot, smooth and hearty. A big ol' cheddar biscuit was buttery and flaky and just about everything you'd want in a biscuit! If we needed anything extra for them to run smoothly. I have screen shots if anyone would like to see the emails back and forth. Two days before we agreed to meet up to show them the property, as it will be new to them. We agreed 5PM. at 5:30 I emailed to see if they were coming. Annie called and said she got held up and wont be able too. But everything is a go. I asked if they needed extra plates, cutlery, glasses. and She said nope all good. Email confirmation is added. The day of the wedding, they showed up at 4:30PM when dinner was suppose to be for 6PM.(Kinda Late to be coming to a place they never been before) Their stove wouldn't light (Propane) blamed it on the voltage at the venue. That we didn't give them the right voltage. Don't know how that will affect the stove but okay. They asked the venue for more knives. to be exact 60 were asked. and the venue had to take knives from other cabins that weren't involved with the wedding. Charged $250 for coffee and tea. That was never served. (blamed it that there was no set up for it) When we asked if they needed anything and they said no. Food was cold. as they had to cook everything at the venues owners main house. And take a golf glcart back and forth to serve the meal. Dinner was 2 hours late. All servers weren't in uniform. They were all confused what was happening. We have multiple people with allergies and were given a plate with their allergy on it. When I given each table what had allergies and what meal was going where. The owner is super rude. e-mails back and forth were very unprofessional. If anyone would like screen shots. please don't hesitant to contact me. As I do not want this to happen to anyone on their weddingday,As he did ruin my dinner and we had to change the timeline of our speeches, first dances and everything because of his mistakes. many people had to wait to eat at the midnight meal. as their chicken was raw. please think twice before hiring him.

The last time I was there, my jaw actually dropped at the size of the two over easy eggs on my plate! I'm sure they come from a local supplier - these wouldn't fit into the normal grocery store egg categories. Hashbrowns are also phenomenal. And, I don't know another local diner in the area that gives you a breakfast plate with homemade, thick cut toast, dripping in butter along with breakfast meat that will go above and beyond any other diner's attempt to satisfy. Trust me, this plate of awesomeness is not for the faint of heart, but it's bar none the best breakfast in all of Pictou County. Opt for the sausages - you won't be disappointed. And then make sure who ever is with you gets the bacon. Cause you'll obviously want to try a strip of that, too. Service is laid back. Coffee is fine - it's diner quality, and that's fine by me. The floors creak and the locals pretty much have assigned seating. Tables are small and the ceilings are low, but it's all part of the atmosphere, folks! Found plastic in a meal on March 6th. Called and was advised I'd get a call back , no one did call…read moreme so I called again , no response, filled out a complaint with McDonald's.ca got a call back advising me that somebody else would call me , no response, so I called the store again they took my info and no response so I filled out another complaint form a mcdonalds.ca. after that somebody got back to me and left a voicemail with a phone number saying if somebody didn't come through with a resolved to contact them I waited a week there was no resolution so I called the phone number and left a voicemail no response back since then I've called the store 4 or 5 times and I've talked to Leslie who has forwarded my information on to the general manager who has no desire to contact me back. I advise Leslie that I would call every day until somebody got back to me and she pleaded that there was nothing she could do it was the next higher up. I advised her to maybe tell the person in charge that because I'm calling her all the time and bugging her that she can't do her job. At this point she seems exhausted with me contacting her but come on it is now July 7th hopefully this review is seen by this higher up person and they can pull their head out of their backside and contact me
