Recent trip through the area had me at Starbucks for a coffee. Service was quick despite the long drive through. Ordered an Americano which should be piping hot , but was warm at best. The cashier was kind and smiled. Then it went down hill from there. No one makes eye contact. No one smiles. I said "Thank you", and "Merry Christmas". Crickets. Not even a side eye. I get to my car with a venti Gingerbread latte with extra shot, and grande Creme brulee latte with Almond milk. Blech!! The gingerbread latte was weak and almost watered down. With barely a taste of the gingerbread syrup. The creme brulee latte tasted like a plain latte with no syrup at all!. I looked up the ingredients and I for sure had no syrup, no toffee bits, no "Holiday" fun drink. Sadly we didnt taste them until we were 2 miles away. I should have known our drinks would suck since there was absolutely zero Holiday spirit at this location. I ordered my drink in store at 2:00 and by 2:30 I still didnt have my drink... a group of hockey players had come in and they had made some online orders and they completely shoved my order aside... and then my cousin, who had ordered after me and had a more complicated drink than I did, got her drink before I did. when I asked the register they said that my drink should be up in a few orders... mind you this was almost 30 minutes after I ordered. eventually I just went up and asked for a refund and left. i have never been more disappointed with a Starbucks in my life. read more

I ordered a vanilla sweet cream nitro cold brew and a NOT WARMED vanilla bean cheese danish. I felt rushed while my order was taken in cafe. Usually I have wonderful service at many Starbucks locations. This Wilkes barre location has been very off and on with good service & I barely go to this location. I'm not one to write a bad review either. Got my food warmed, not a big deal. Clearly ordered a nitro and the guy couldn't be bothered to listen to the customer, let alone make eye contact or a smile. When I told him it should've been a nitro he just dumped the other one in the sink & didn't apologized. I had the same guy months ago and he was rude. After about 12-15 minutes, I started asking about my order and the 3 workers, wearing head sets, appeared to be chatting back & forth and laughing among themselves. Make sure to use a VPN and be respectful to the bathroom even if you're not a local (common courtesy). *** To premise, my negative feelings are based solely on never having received my order as ordered (at this specific location) as well as constant issues through the app with their point system over the years (throughout America). I'm a former gold card holder (saying for context of former loyalty) and previously purchased most of my food at Starbucks around the country before taking time to become more educated on healthier eating. *** The Good: You can rest and enjoy your drink/meal for hours on end without disturbance so long as it's a rare occasion or on days of slow business. People for the most part mind their own business so long as you dress at least sub-par (college town standards). The WiFi is very reliable (unsecured) but outlets at this location are scarce. The employees are EXTREMELY friendly (from my experience). Always chipper, grateful, and eager to help fix problems they caused. I say that without facetiousness because the standard for "chain" in this area is lacking the latter for the most part based on our experience thus far living in the area. The Bad: The ONLY "bad" parts of the machine I've found here is: 1. Parking: Very confusing if you're not a local; super tight; accident prone; inviting chaos due to cramped space. 2. Drive-Thru: It feels like a micro side street of NYC slowed to Wilkes-Barre pace. Not an exaggeration. During busy hours the line can out put onto the street, and people WILL park their butt in the middle of the street. 3. Space Overall: They're too small for the area they serve. Between the throughway for exit and the drive through it can get heavily packed and you can get blocked in for 15 minutes or more on a very heavy day when people are feeling unforgiving (whether you're mean or nice. I've tried both.) The Ugly: NONE It's a Starbucks. What you see is what you get. Overpriced coffee, a fabricated upper class; inner city experience mixed with super fast service. A business like this is mostly built on brand. Brand and marketing are expensive. The Verdict: I would be here way more often if they got my orders right (Dunkin never gets it wrong) and they expanded over into the Red Robin's lot. It shouldn't be long before that (hopefully) happens. Assuming the owner can afford the purchase and won't be running off with the money like most people in Wilkes-Barre do when they do something without principle. On my third visit I had the beverage redone (my previous visits were drive thru) and it still tasted bad. I wasn't sure if they were not cleaning the blender correctly or they just had no clue how to make something so simple. I hope to God it was poor beverage training and NOT that they were using dirty blenders (BARF!). My beverage kept tasting like caramel or something other than what it should have tasted like. Do you ever find yourself making frequent stops at a place hundreds of miles from home yet you feel as though it's just around the corner? That's how I feel about this out-of-the-way Starbucks right off of I-81 in eastern Pennsylvania. I've been stopping here for a couple of years and while it's nothing to write home about, I've developed an affinity for the place and the respite it offers from the rigors of long-distance driving. This shopping-center parking lot Starbucks is a travel beacon reminding me how much driving I have left. It's also a convenient place to check email, grab a beverage and take a leak before getting back on the highway though I tend to stay too long once I get comfortably settled. It's actually gotten to the point that I have a preferred parking space out front and chair to sit in. In the warmer months you can sit outside on the patio and watch the passing parade of non-locals making their pit stop pilgrimage just like me. read more

Leaving the Wilkes-Barre Best Western after a weekend of skiing at Snö Mountain, I had a huge caffeine low-level warning light in my brain, so I needed to get to the closest coffee house. Then I found this Starbucks just a couple of miles from I-81. Friendly and well staffed, this is a stand alone outlet with an unfortunate location next to a Wal-Mart, It even has a drive-in window for the lazy customers who insist on driving to the nearest block. Then, to top it off, the customer in front of me at the counter was dressed in a long lace dress with a bonnett on her head (Mennonite, I guess) and had never been to a Starbucks in her life, so the barista had to show her how she processed the coffee, what ingredients she could add, ad nauseam. This Starbucks is fairly run of the mill - the real reason for only three stars is that their drive thru often takes way too long. Also, they frequently are not brewing decaf coffee and you have to wait for them to do a pour over. This is a coffee shop - decaf is pretty standard. Why are we not keeping it available? Their service, like most Starbucks, is pretty decent. I like their food products - especially the breakfast sandwich with the smoked Gouda. The price, also like most Starbucks, is a bit higher than I'd like but not terrible - as long as you steer clear of the fancy beverages. read more

Caffeine addicts and coffee heads alike! Welcome to this review. So i may say that I frequent this Starbucks whenever my precious Dunkin has a long line. And what I do have to say is.... it's a crapshoot!!! A few weeks ago I treated dear old Margie to a nice Giant Caramel Frappuccino . It was a bit early in the morning so I was plesantly surprised when my Barista greeted me so friendly and warmly! She was just the cutest thing. My turkey bacon sandwich was somehow forgot in the mix ( i am NOT complaing) but she efficiently and quickly handled the situation while maintaining her bright and cheery demeanor! You go girlie !! However today my precious Dunkin was out of my favorite donut (grr!) so I took my business to the Starbucks down the street. Now, this was a HUGE mistake. I ordered my beloved caramel frappucino but when I took my first sippy I realized it tasted..... off? So I kindly and politely (in typical Marg fashion LOL) asked for a new one. The cashier was bitter (guess SHE didnt have her caffeine this morning...) and the girl who made the frappuccino was short with me as well. Now, these kids could learn from their coworker! This branch was full of terrible surprises from unswept floors, straw wrappers on every surface and BUGS, yes flies and ants in the food display cabinet. Always great customer service, workers are always smiling. I've never had any issues with my drinks. They always make sure the order is correct. The only issue is the wait and long line. You will wait for a decent amount of time to receive your order if you go through the drive thru. I'd rather wait a longer and have my order be correct then wait less time and get the complete wrong order (*cough* *cough* Dunkin).
