Although I'm only able to select five stars, please know this is truly a 10-star academy! We are beyond blessed to call Starchild our second home. The peace of mind knowing our children are not only safe but genuinely loved by so many is priceless. It starts the moment you walk through the doors and are greeted by the friendly faces of Ms. Dawn, Ms. Ashley, and Ms. Melissa. While I wish I could name every incredible teacher, I'd love to highlight a few who have made a lasting impact on our family. Miss Lisa cared for our girls before they moved on to Pre-K, followed by the fabulous Ms. Ashley who guided them through Pre-K and gave them such a strong foundation. Now, we're onto summer camp adventures with Ms. Jasmine, Ms. Kayla, and Ms. Erin, who keep our girls happy, engaged, and excited every day. Our older son is also loving his summer camp experience with Ms. Kaylee, Ms. Bree, and Ms. Kendall -- we couldn't ask for a better team. After learning that all schools are not equal, we enrolled our kids in this Starchild 14 years ago believing a rigorous academic foundation from conscientious people would help our kids to be ready for their futures. Starchild started that foundation with diverse activities, rigorous academics and the owners that were supportive about our kids' experience. Although every teacher, and interaction may not have been perfect, the overall experience has laid the foundation to allow our kids to be honor roll students in each school district we have moved into, and now our oldest is graduating high school with honors and scholarship offers from several universities. Teachers are young and inexperienced and are constantly yelling at the kids. My daughter had a horrible experience with being bullied and no one seemed to notice or care. I would never recommend this school but if you do send your kids watch the cameras and you will see how the kids really get treated. read more

We cannot say enough good things about Starchild Academy in Oviedo. We have had our daughter there in the infant room for about 3months now and our experience seems to only get better. We had her at another Oviedo daycare for a month and it was a mess and often left us questioning if she was safe. Once we switched to Starchild we were relieved to finally find a great place for our child. Like many large daycares Starchild has separate rooms for each age group, usually broken up in 1 year increments. A lead teacher is provided for each room and a core group of support staff are assigned to the same room everyday. Everyone in the infant room is extremely caring for our child, treating her almost as if she was the only one in the room. The student to teacher ratio is very good and it seems like the staff is able to take care of every child all of the time, not an easy feat. One of the best parts about Starchild is their goal not only to watch and care for the children, but to actually teach them and help them develop. Each class has a curriculum that they follow everyday to keep the kids growing. I had to stop by this morning to take my little one to a doctors appointment and the whole class was having their daily sign-language lesson. Sure this is the infant room, but the fact that they have structured learning in sign-language, Spanish, and Japanese each day helps the children focus on learning. We have never had an issue with our daughter being changed or fed enough, actually, they have aired on the side of caution and even changed he outfit if they thought she was a little too dirty. The last thing I would say is that the price is reasonable. Daycare is not cheap, but considering we are paying only 10 dollars more a week than we did at the "bad daycare", this place is a steal. We bring out 3 yo here and have since Jan 2016 after a nightmare at another daycare. We haven't had any issues and the staff is always on top of things, in good moods, and the owners, Ron and Vicki are extremely receptive to requests and feedback. They don't tolerate abusive kids and they have a great security camera system to watch your child if you want. We have found the curriculum to be very good for our child's age level. My child has been attending Starchild since she was 3. She is now in Kindergarten, and we are so relieved they will be offering 1st grade next year, the 2011 / 2012 school year. This is my daughters 3rd year. The facility is only a few years old, and is sparkling clean, no odors, no broken furniture. The school is what one hopes to see from the moment you pull up. It is an open environment, meaning there are no hidden areas, and security is modern and top notch. They have camera's in every class, closed circuit of course, that allows me to log on and then watch my daughters class from any computer, even my droid. My daughter is now in Kindergarten, and reads nearly fluently. She is working on 2nd grade math, and we are on 2nd grade vocabulary lists. All of this, yet she is never rushed, nor forced to absorb too much. She comes home and asks to do math. Math! And not just once in a while. I attribute much of her enjoyment in learning to Starchild's amazing teaching staff and their dedication, sincere compassion and patience. Like the previous reviewer, I must say there are not enough words, or time, to convey the benefits of this school. Starchild is not a day care, it is a modern, clean, and exceptional learning institution. If Starchild offered education through High School, I would have already prepaid the tuition for the entire time. It is in fact that good. I completed thorough diligence on all educational options for my daughter. I am in the fortunate position to send my daughter to any school. Nothing I found compares to Starchild at any cost. Campus, curriculum, and staff are all an A+. Starchild has far exceeded all expectations I had. Mr. Ron, thank you so much for what you do. I pulled my children out after two weeks. One of my sons is terrified of new places and was too scared to ask to use the bathroom and had many accidents the first week. So the second week they took him (age 4) and put him in a diaper, which he had been out of for 2 years, and placed him in a baby classroom. When I addressed it with the front desk the owner started shrieking at me in front of other children and parents that I had no right to inquire as to this form of humiliation and to take my children and get out; she came around the desk and chased me to the door while I fled in tears, shielding my face because I thought she was going to attack me. Additional issues I noticed: Safety: When visiting, I found that the gates to the playgrounds are not only left unlocked, but the U-shaped latch was unbolted. And these exit to public streets! Care of children: Some of the teachers are abrasive and harsh to the children. While a few seemed nice, when there was one that wasn't, the school did nothing to correct the situation. Example: it was my son's birthday and wanting to help him make friends at a new daycare, I brought in cupcakes. I watched his teacher go about the afternoon in her own little world, staring at a textbook on the counter, then look up every few minutes to scold the children or use verbal threats as punishment, which was both inattentive and hostile. Maybe she thought I had the class covered for her? I was genuinely concerned that if she acted this way while parents were present, what she might have been like when she was alone with the children. They also made comments that they are "not equipped to deal with messes or accidents," leading me to wonder why they are in the business of caring for children. I feel much more confident bringing my children back to the Ladybird chains where everyone I've met seems to genuinely care for children. read more

I am a grandmother who takes her grandson to this school every day and this is the best child care center around. While working full time my children attended various well-known day cares growing up and I wish there had been a Star Child Academy back then. My daughter later worked at two different day cares in Oviedo and I would not recommend them to anyone. I can say the same for some public schools in the area. This is the most professional and educational center I have ever seen. At first, based on past experiences I was relieved to have the cameras to watch on line if I wanted. My grandson has attended for about three years including pre-k and kindergarten. He is excelling above his grade level, loves his school, and is exposed to a wide variety of curriculum, including Japanese, Spanish and sign language. There is regular/daily feedback on what is done in class and how he is doing. I cannot say enough about all he has learned in his Kindergarten class and was very happy to hear they also have a 1st and 2nd grade. The staff is available and easy to talk with, very professional and friendly. This is especially true for the owners. At other day cares I never even met the owners. This is a family owned business and they are on the premises every day. They go above and beyond which is obvious not only by their actions but by the noticeable differences between the setup and atmosphere of this center compared to others. This Center has my highest recommendation and I have no personal association with them other than my grandson's attendance there. read more

pros: 1. The price is reasonable. Although the weekly tuition is $10 more expensive than the the other daycare our child has been to, it is still very reasonable. Considering the teacher qualification, facilities, and the security system, the services we received, it is a great deal. In addition, they only charge 1-time registration fee for $50, not every year like the other daycare. 2. The teachers are great. At the other daycare, my child cried every day when we drop him off almost every single day, even after 6 months. At this daycare, the first week we transferred my child, the front desk ladies, the director and the owner all went to check on him during the day and let parents know what is going on. After 2 weeks, my child is so attached to the lead teacher that he does not cry anymore. My child has been through 2 classes. Both teachers are great. 3. The owners and the director are nice and friendly. The always sit at the front desk, making them available to everyone. They are always there, listening to parents concerns, and work with parents 4. They keep the communication stream open. When my child transfer from 1 class to another, we were able to set up an appointment with the teachers, and talk with them about our concerns, expectations, etc. 5. The teachers are very patient with kids, and keep things organized and clean. Whenever my child did anything wrong, they let us know; when he made progress, they let us know as well. During the nap time, the teachers wipe clean the toys. 6. The daycare feathers a webcam, so that we can see the kid all the time 7. They are very reasonable on their billing policies. I use Bank of America's bill pay to pay weekly tuition. There were occasions that the check came in late for 1-2 business days. I was never charged a late fee 8. They have very reasonable vacation policy. Each year, in addition to 1 week's free vacation time, parents can take additional 5 week's vacation with kids, and pay only 50% of the tuition. 9. Their classroom is big, which gives kids lots of the room for running and playing. 10. Their sick policy is strictly executed. There was one occasion that I had to get a doctor's notes to send my child to the daycare. However, I understand that it is for the protection for the whole class. Cons: The only issue we met with was that, they do not have a covered driveway for rainy days. However, starchild always provide as much help as they can. I was always able to borrow an umbrella from them. In another occasion, when it rained really hard, one of the owner, Mr. Ron, kindly hold my child, when I pulled my car to the front. read more

As an educator, this " school" is awful. I worked there for little over 3 months and it's a joke! The director is more concerned with th gossip of the school and talking behind your back rather than focusing on hiring qualified educators who can teach curriculum. The children do the same thing day and day out and parents wonder why there children don't make progress. I worked with the two and three year olds and while working there the children did not do anything besides trace their name and color meaningless papers! My daughter attended starchild for 6 months. Her diaper would be so wet by the time I picked her up at night it would be seeping through her clothes and when you would ask a teacher they would say "I just checked her and she wasn't wet". No way was she just checked. Because of that type of scenario she had a diaper rash for months and they would not or forgot to put diaper cream that I provided on her. There are a handful of exceptional teachers at starchild oviedo but there are too many bad ones to balance it out. The management has the worst problem solving skills I've ever encountered aside from truly not seeming to care. I could continue but there's no point. I wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone. read more

StarChild Academy in Oviedo really is "As Good As It Gets!". Starting out in the infant room, our son went here for 2 years. He learned so much, made so many new friends and we could tell he had so much fun here. Unfortunately, we had to leave due to relocating, which was very sad for us considering we were looking forward to him graduating through all of the classes. Words can't express how wonderful this school is. The teachers are so caring and the front office crew is beyond accomodating and gracious. You can see how much they really do care about the children. We had so much fun at dinner time hearing about his great day at school and him showing us the arts & crafts he made that day with his teachers. One last note to mention is the education StarChild provides is outstanding. Our son learned so many things so fast! He was counting to 20 when he was 18 months old and had all of his colors and letters down shortly thereafter.
