I was recommended to Ozzie at Lucid Lending by my realtor for a home I'm closing on in the Asheville area on the 15th of December, so, even though I *thought* I had a good rate offered to me by another lender, I figured "hey, if they can even come close, add in being local and helping support the economy, let's consider it." ...to start with, they beat my 'good rate' by over a quarter of a percent (which is insane when rates are already as low as they are). That alone would make this a good review, but the news just doesn't end there. Ozzie and Nick have been regularly in touch with me about items for my upcoming close, helping me make sure that the details of my unique situation (moving over 1200 miles, and pretty close to simultaneously closing on selling my house in central Texas and buying the home in the area) go off without a hitch, which has helped tremendously for my peace of mind in this aspect of the next stage of my life. Lastly, as icing on the cake if you will, my wife and I have some unique situations regarding our move due to family members being brought up (one is an 11mo baby, the others are large 5yo fur babies that think they're humans too), and I was asking Nick about dog-friendly lodging for the couple days of interim between when we will be arriving in Asheville and when we'll actually be closing, and he offered to help out directly with that if it came to that. It came on the strength of a conversation in November 2025, during which George explicitly assured us he would handle our filings. We heard nothing further -- no requests for documents, no follow-ups, no flags. On April 13th -- one day before tax day -- I reached out simply to confirm everything was on track. The response I received was that no extension had been filed for one of our businesses, and that the firm would not be filing any of our taxes at all. Let that sink in. No prior warning. No email requesting missing information. No professional courtesy of a heads-up. Just a quiet abdication of responsibility, discovered only because I happened to check in. When I called to understand what had gone wrong, I was told they "didn't have the information" -- information they never once asked for. When I expressed that I was frustrated about the position this put us in, George's response was, verbatim: "You are talking to the only CPA in town that won't be filing your taxes, so if you are just venting, this conversation is over." I'll be transparent: my error was not following up sooner. I own that. But I think most reasonable people would expect that a professional -- one managing multiple filings for a client -- would proactively communicate when something was missing, rather than simply do nothing and say nothing. We are now facing penalties in year one of a local business we have worked hard to build. I have documentation -- emails and call notes dating back to November -- that tell this story clearly. I've received invoices with no details except demand for payment and there's no transparency at all in the work she does. Once I asked 4 times how she arrived at a balance I owed and she could/ would not answer the question. I wouldn't recommend her based on ethics nor output. She's paid entirely too much for the questionable work performed and I expect neighbors to soon communicate their terrible experiences as well.
