Had a great time at the Starlite drive in watching clueless! Appropriately priced food and great staff! The three back rows are for SUVs and if you want to open your hatchback you have to go to the back row ( which is where we went) and still had a GREAT view! we got there around 6:20 and had plenty of time to move the car and find a good spot. we ended up having to move the car about 30 mins before the movie b/c someone in front of of us opened their hatchback and we were still able to find a good spot! read more

If you've never been to a drive-in movie theater you are missing out on a quintessential retro American experience. You must give it a try. The prices are unbelievably reasonable and they offer confessions ranging from hotdogs and BBQ to cotton candy and nachos. You can also bring your own food and have a picnic which is phenomenal. We love that they give change in two dollar bills and fifty cent pieces. Some things you may want to know: SUVs and a big trucks park in the back row. You can pull in backward and bring pillows and blankets for a unique movie experience. You can also bring camp chairs and sit in front of your vehicle. The drive-in opens before dark and people come early to get the best spots. Bring or get dinner, bring a frisbee and hang out. The employees here are very friendly and welcoming. We loved that there was a man walking around making sure larger SUVs weren't in the lower rows which make it difficult to see. read more

Pretty cool! How often do you get to watch a movie out under the stars? How often do you get to watch a movie in the bed of your truck? How often do you get to watch a movie and yell at people because their car alarm or headlights are on? Well, the first two are the best parts about watching a movie at the drive in. Unfortunately, the last part did happen a couple of times. Overall though, it's a pretty fun thing to do. Not to mention, you can get popcorn for only .75! Supposedly, their hotdogs are some of the best around and were on some tv show a little while ago. If you are ever in the C'burg area, which is highly unlikely, make it a point to stop and watch a movie here. It's a ton of fun and the fam will enjoy it! read more

We have now been 2x and are big fans. The first time was just my husband and I and it was really nice to open the sun roof and tune the movie in on the radio. There are also the old school speakers you can put in the car. Most of the patrons bring chairs or air mattresses and blankets. It was raining our 2nd trip so we were in the car for the duration and it was still fun. The cost for an adult is $6 and kids $4, a BARGAIN!!!! They generally show movies that have been out for awhile but sometimes get a first run movie. Not a huge fan of their snack bar, the cost of the popcorn is outrageous (1.5 for a tiny box), BUT bring your own snacks and drinks from home and problem solved. They show the same movie @8:45 and 10:30. (With an occasional double feature) gates open at 7 so you can claim a spot and hang out/get snacks etc. Overall awesome value and great experience!!! read more

We recently moved to the Roanoke Valley and were SO EXCITED to find out about the drive in! We also recently had a baby and hadn't been able to see a movie in awhile so we finally took our 6 month old, packed his pack n play and chairs and headed to the drive in. He was asleep before the first movie started and it was such a fun "date night" for us. The concession good was good and affordable. Wonderful layout and great quality family time....but bring your own snacks!!!! $30 and 3 hours later (no exaggeration...we waited 3 hours and missed all but 45 min of the first movie) the $4 funnel cake is the size of your palm, forget about customizing your hotdogs because they all come out with the works anyway, and the 3 hour wait I mentioned was for POPCORN! We love the experience, but the service is lacking. We'll be back, but we won't be eating from the concessions. It's notable that the bathrooms are one room with 2 toilets....no privacy with ridiculous lines. I hate to see one of the last drive in movies have such crap service. Overall, there's nothing like a drive-in though. read more

The audio sucks! If you're lucky enough to get a spot where the speaker will reach to the window (most the cords have been trimmed to an unusable length) you get crackly noise from an old worn out speaker. If you keep the volume at a level where it won't distort, not everyone in the car can hear. On my last visit we were informed they were also broadcasting the audio on I believe it was 90.5 FM. I got a little excited, since my car speakers aren't from the 60's. When the movie started, the reception was great, but the sound quality was actualy worse! It was as if they had one of those old speakers way too close to the pick-up mic for the FM transmitter. The distortion was unbearable. We ended up leaving (as did many others) not long into the movie. The only way I'll ever come back is if they update the sound system. read more

My boyfriend and I went 2 weekend in a row. The first weekend was really nice but yesterday we went and it was advertised to be lucky Logan and when we got there for the 2nd showing it was Days of Thunder. Which is a terrible ton cruise movie from 1990. So we were really disappointed. They need to better advertise through their Facebook and website so customers know exactly what movie is playing. Normally seems like they do a good job but this time :/. But the snack bar was great, movie is cheap and the location is cool. Just wish it was easier to know what movie was playing. 2.5 stars. it was my first time going to a drive-in theater. i guess i had a higher expecation than what was there. yes, it's great to pay a couple of dollars to watch a movie. but the quality just can't cut it. it was pretty packed when my friends and i went to watch it. the "car" line was long just to get into the theater. we hard to park almost in the back row. the speaker that they provide is pretty old/warn out looking. you hear a little static when the movie is playing. although the movie screen is big, the movie is fuzzy on the screen. cheap movie ticket + cheap food ... is it worth it? you decide .. read more

We've been going to Starlight since moving to the NRV back in the late 90's, and love it. The negatives are they don't show trailers, often cut the credits short at the end, and have bathrooms that aren't the best maintained in the world. The positives are the price, the atmosphere, the snack bar-which has their legendary hotdogs. Having 3 children, and having went throughout their lives, we love it here. Where else can a couple with 3 small children go to see the movies, without getting dirty looks from people if the children get cranky? The absolute worse thing about the drive-in are the other people there, in particular the ones who smoke. We often have to roll up our windows, to keep my daughter from having an asthma attack. But with the huge screen, good speaker system (not sure what another reviewer was complaining about-they've always worked fine for us), cheap and good food, and the privacy of your own car-it can't be beat. read more

Wow. What an experience! I never thought my son would get to experience a real drive-in movie and am so grateful for the Starlite. They have upgraded to a brand new digital system and we didn't have any issues with the sound. Get there early, let the kids play and get some snacks the snack bar. Relax. Bring some chairs and blankets and enjoy a night under the stars. Heck, you can even bring your dog! It's a wonderful, affordable family experience. But, if you're looking for an IMAX with a Dolby sound system, go spend $50 for your tickets and popcorn and sodas at the movie theater at the mall. The owner of the Starlite has sunk a bit of money into the place--they've added a digital projector, and now broadcast the sound over your FM radio so now the sound is as good as your car stereo is... Still great concessions at an incredible price! And you can chatter as much during the movie as you want....when my hubby and I go it's like our own version of Mystery Science Theater 3000! read more
