The apartment is 'ok' but upon moving in after hours in a Uhaul coming from atlanta, our "move in ready" apartment smelled so strongly of food and fish. The carpet was old, stained and still had marks from someone else's furnishings and felt crusty. Marks in the walls, cracks in the ceiling and window siding. The kitchen is unbelievably small and the bathroom had issues with water being searing hot. God knows why the dining/living room is enormous and the rest of the apt is totally cramped. The maintenance people are very kind and wonderful but sometimes the work seems very rushed--for instance someone literally just hacked a huge hole in the back of our cabinets for electrical rather than spending the time to pay attention to detail. The washer and dryer do NOT work well so do not consider them a perk. There are always tiny gnats in the gym and hallways and we work hard to keep these from spreading into the apt. Side note that the gym is dirty and very dated. The staff is accommodating but we find that they often have "paving" "internet" or other work being done which causes an inconvenient need to keep moving your car or inhibits those who work from home. The pool is only mildly clean and typically has a film. It appears this building is somewhat taken care of, but not professionally invested in and if you have issues with their appliances or systems they are unable to pay to replace faulty items you inherited from previous owners and they are unable to fix the apt back to spec after each tenant. Our heating and cooling tends to escape through windows and costs about $200/month. I'd As for the comment below: ALL of this was brought to the attention of Bryn Mawr onsite manager AND the overall property manager! I left Kristin emails with full detail and pictures and we received very little help. I have no reason to call a number now when Bryn Mawr was made well aware and is leaving a comment to look helpful. I've also attached some pictures of the apt condition on move-in day.

The space is huge and beautiful compared to other apartments and the amenities are wonderful. The office staff here is gracious, hard-working and attentive. The maintenance staff lives on-site and makes sure you have prompt care. You never have to worry that something could go wrong. I love my choice. It's the best!

The decor is kind of dated and it definitely caters to its older clients. This also means that there is a maintenance staff constantly on the premises, so it's easy to get issues fixed. The location cannot be beat. It's right on the corner of the one of the Squirrel Hill's main streets. Therefore, there are quite a few shops and restaurants totally within walking distance.

Although it was an adjustment, we found the space pretty comfortable for two empty nesters and our two cats. The apartments are large and very functional. The service from the management is fast, friendly and efficient. The only negative for us was a small kitchen and the train running behind our apartment. I think most of the people living in our building don't cook much, so the kitchen wouldn't be a drawback for many. We did get used to the train and sleep right through it. It seems like everyone has a dog, so if you are super allergic, that might be a consideration. We are moving to a townhome in a few weeks with a third bedroom and a larger kitchen, but if we could have those things at the Foundry, we'd probably stayed a little longer!

We get regular emails updating us on snow removal, or any type of work being done on the property. The buildings have gotten cosmetic lifts since the new management took over. Also - I had a very heavy package delivered & I live on the ground floor. I had no one to help me carry it down & two men from the leasing office brought it down & into my apartment for me. I am blown away by how great it is now compared to when the previous management company was here. I've lived here a year & a half & am very happy.

I initially paid my $550 for the credit and background check and for the security deposit. After about a week of providing my application and security deposit, I was told that due to my credit, I would need to pay an additional $1350 as a security deposit. My credit is around 670, so I understood the extra security requirements. Then two days before I move in, after I paid a security deposit for my electric service and started renters insurance, I was told that I was being denied due to my credit. They simply just said "you can come get your money orders" which were filled out to them smh. I have to send the $1350 worth of money orders back to western union and that can take up to 30 just to receive my money back. If you are a person of color, I advise to please don't waste your time, money and please don't put you dignity on the line for a place like this. Scott and Jack were great up until this point and then they were cold and uncaring. By the way, I have no clue who's credit report they had but it was not mine. The report they provided me had a score of around 550. None of my three scores are 550. I know this is a blessing in disguise but I hope someone can learn from my experience and don't waste your time if you are a person of color and specifically African American.
