I moved to Miami from NYC earlier this year and was unimpressed with the kids studios. Then, State of Kid opened! They have classes for kids that are all drop-in which - if you have kids - is so key for all the unexpected things that come up! We've done music, Spanish, yoga, and soccer classes, and all were excellent! The space itself is clean, bright and inviting! The retail items are very curated and I've found many cute pieces here for my son and for gifts. I'm excited for my son to try more classes! Thankful that State of Kid opened!! read more

I was so happy to find a kid-centric place in the Design District. I'm new to kid classes and Jam with Jamie was the perfect introduction for my 8 month old. From the moment we walked in the staff made us feel right at home and showed us the ropes. The space is really lovely! My little LOVED the class, and I was tickled by how involved the parents were. There was tons of enthusiasm which made it awesome. I bought 2 gifts for birthdays on the way out of the store. :) We will be back! read more

My kids LOVE EVERY CLASS at State of Kid. The teachers are so attentive, the rooms are spotless and clean, every bit of detail is thoughtful. My 2 year old daughter loves the ballet with Miss Vicky and also enjoys the Red Violet art class. My son loves jiu jitsu with Coach Mike. Alana, the owner, is always adding new classes and open to accommodating working parents' schedules. Another perk to State of Kid....the incredible store and shopping area! Our favorite place to go for both kids classes and clothing, and now birthday parties! Our daughter just had her 4th birthday here and it was easier than you can imagine. Cheryl and Alana handle everything from balloons to cake to the class and the decorations (all beautiful!). Everyone loved attending, they had a blast, and it was even fun for the adults. Reallly thankful I found state of kid when we moved to Miami! We Love the all the classes and teachers (Red Violet is a family fave, Jujitsu, Dance, Miss Nancy petit chefs to name a few) My kiddos always look forward to going to SOK and I've met some wonderful mommas here too! State of Kid has been much needed in Miami! I love the variety and thoughtfulness of classes, from Maker Monkey (with real building) to the cooking class to Jam with Jamie. It helps my two toddlers explore different skills and interests, beyond just trying to get their energy out. Further, I am a working mom, and I very much appreciate the flexibility in signing up for classes, as I am not necessarily able to commit to X number of classes per month to make membership models make sense. Their curated selection of clothing is wonderful. I have found some of my favorite children's brands through them and often go there to grab a gift for one of the many birthday parties we attend! Also, the consistent cleanliness of the space is a bonus--that should be a minimum for every children's play space but that's not always the case. read more

Creative, engaging, interactive fun! Class started with music and movement, and then we used recycled materials, coconut shell and palms to make firework art with paint. Our two year old LOVED it and so did we! I love the drop-in class model, which makes State of Kid so unique! A great location, adorable kids clothing too... highly recommend!!! read more

This place is so ridiculous. We take a Jam with Jamie class and the entire group of moms is so disappointed and ready to quit early despite paying for the whole semester. The teacher is so unengaging and seems to truly hate her job. Yesterday, she had a complete meltdown and yelled at some mothers who were talking at a whisper level in the back. Two of the moms were so uncomfortable with this behavior that they walked out. Rather than sending an apology email, the owner Cheryl followed up with an email of new rules that were not provided when we initially paid for the class. This is a mommy and me class with 1 year olds...we are not studying for the BAR here. The teacher gets mad if the babies walk around but the rules include no longer allowing the babies to eat snacks...which is the only way to keep them still and not whining for an hour. Moms are taking these classes to get out of the house and meet other moms...not because they think their babies are going to become musical prodigies at 1. All the other classes we take encourage moms to talk, make friends, and enjoy a fun and warm environment. At MYGYM, teachers will even offer to keep an eye on the child if a parent has to take a call. I'm not saying that needs to be offered but I do think that shaming a working mother for having to respond to important texts regarding her patients in pretty incredible. We are paying for this teacher to entertain our kids, and to make new friends. As a paying customer I am done with this class (and believe a few other mothers are too) and will certainly not be recommending it to any of our friends. read more
