When you look for the tickets for this natural spring pool you can buy online but you can purchase it in person as well. If you live in coral gables then you pay $6 per person but if you don't live in the area you have to pay $18 per person. I wish they had deals for the entrance can be cheaper because it is a bit pricey. However, I did love swimming in this clean water. The water was cold but it was clean and not packed for a Saturday afternoon. The rail to get in and out of the pool is a bit difficult and my mom had a bit of a hard time getting in and out of the pool. They also have lifeguards throughout the pool and they are very attentive. They offer life jackets because the area by the cave or by the waterfall is about 7 feet deep. I have tried the food here before and I was not impressed because it tasted like cafeteria food. However, this time I didn't eat here. They do have an option where they have sand and you can lay on the chairs to tan. They do offer lockers here but you will have to pay for it. I didn't get a locker this time and put my stuff on a bench near the pool. I would definitely come back to this pool. I had the opportunity to have family and friends meet us for my daughters birthday party at Venetian pool. They offer party packages which I found to be reasonable considering the venue and food is included - these packages are mega discounted right now due to the cafe being closed for renovations. If you're planning to host a party they strictly require 2 weeks notice. In my case we notified just shy of 2 weeks and they wouldn't allow us to book through the party option, instead we had to buy individual tickets (taking off one star for this reason as we'd been in contact with a Venetian pool representative well ahead of the 2 week mark but there were many unknowns for them due to the renovations). The emoloyees were really helpful though the day before the party to provide tips for the party. Anywho! Everyone had an amazing time, my daughter said this was the "best birthday". The kids and adults had a blast and were thankful for the unique experience. We were able to get the shady beach area (it is a rental option for parties but if it isn't already reserved for a party can be claimed via first come first serve). It was very nice having a beach feel with the beautiful blue water surrounding. The children had a blast swimming and going in the caves and I felt comfortable with all of the staff that was available and watching to make sure everyone was safe. This is where I took swimming lessons when I was young, and to see the new generation enjoy this place as much as I did when I was younger was amazing. I absolutely loved this place. I purchased my tickets the night before because I heard this place gets packed. I'm very happy I did because when I got there at noon on a Saturday it had already reached capacity. Parking is a little tricky because of how packed it gets. I had to circle around a few times before I found a spot. Once inside I was taken away by how beautiful and clear the water was. Word of advice: wear the life jacket if you're not a strong swimmer. The pool is super deep in some areas. However there are more than enough lifeguards standing by at all times. The seating areas get taken quickly so try to arrive early. Also the concession area is currently being remodeled so take your own snacks and drinks. This place is totally worth the $17 entrance fee. Lots of greats spots for pictures too. I've been in Fl 30 years and this is my first visit. The location is very nice, it's a historic pool and surroundings which is pretty amazing. The pool water was colder than I expected but refreshing on a 90+ day. I found the entry price for non-Gables residents to be a bit high, $21 for adults, $16 for 3-12 yes old. The food was mediocre and you're not supposed to bring any in. The pool was full of children from camps, we visited on a weekday. Unfortunately the counselors just let them run around, jumping on and over people. They have a nice 2ft pool where I was with my 3 yr old grandson, the 10-12 year olds were in there jumping all over the smaller kids and anyone in their way. I thought the life guards were great, well trained. I also like that they offer life jackets. The water is kept clean & it's very refreshing! I do recommend to rent a beach chair as the free benches and tables do get taken quickly. They 2 waterfalls and a cave like area which is very cool! I have lived in South Florida since the late 1960's; and the Venetian Pool has been around since the 1920's.....how have I never been there before? It is breathtaking! The Venetian Pool is located in Coral Gables and even the drive through the city is fabulous because all of the houses nearby are gorgeous, well-maintained and have very unique architectural styles. There are several free parking lots surrounding the attraction. They open at 11:00 a.m. and when I arrived at about 11:30 on a Friday in July there was plenty of available parking. There was a short line to purchase tickets which were $20 each. You could also rent a beach chair or a locker at the entrance desk. I was with a group of 9 ladies and we decided to share a few lockers and a few ladies rented lounge chairs. There is a large locker room area with lockers, showers, changing area, and toilets just past the entrance. The pool itself is just beautiful with a waterfall, underwater caves, and lush landscaping. There really is no shallow area, except for the roped off kiddie area. Once you jump in or climb down one of the ladders, the depth quickly progresses to 5 feet or deeper. There are many lifeguards positioned all around the pool and I was surprised to note that there was even a lifeguard inside the caves! The water is quite cold for this Florida girl, but you get used to it after a few minutes. I swam into the caves. It was a cool experience, but you just need a few minutes to explore them both. I also swam to the waterfall ; which is really pouring down! You can actually swim behind the rushing water and sit on the little ledges on the back wall. In addition to the water there is a sandy beach area, some picnic tables and even a little snack bar. For as well maintained as the pool area is, I was quite surprised to see how weedy the landscaping was in the area surrounding the beach. It was a plus to discover that you could bring your own food in. It's not one of those tourist places that won't let you bring snacks in and then charges you an arm and a leg for their snacks! Another really cool thing is all the old photos hanging on the walls inside the tower. There are great shots from the 1920's snd 1930's that show what the Venetian Pool was like during that time period. There are all kinds of shots of beauty pageants and celebrity appearances. All in all the Venetian Pool is a hidden gem in Coral Gables. It's a wonderful place to visit for a day of swimming or sunning for all ages! Over my lifetime I have been a couple of time and enjoy it. The water here is perfect for these brutal Miami summers since it really cold but refreshing. The pool was a creation that was a result of the Grand Plan that George Merrick had for a City that would embody true hometown living. As George Merrick went about creating a City with Mediterranean features such as grand entrances, plazas, and Mediterranean style homes, the limestone being used to create the buildings were taken from a quarry pit. This quarry became Venetian Pool through the efforts of Merrick, artist Denman Fink, and architect Phineas Paist. The pool was transformed into a paradise that is included in the National Register of Historic Places, the only swimming pool to have such a designation. In its early days, the "Venetian Casino", was quite a destination for the high society people of the day. Movie Stars Johnny Weismuller and Esther Williams both appeared there to large crowds. The pool was also a site for orchestra concerts. The pool would be emptied and the orchestra would then perform on the pool floor. The pool is made out a coral rock quarry and has been a landmark of the Gables since 1923. Every day they fill and drain 820,000 gallon of fresh spring water from an underground aquifer. The amount of chlorine they put inside the pool is less than in our drinking water. Hence, you always have very fresh water in that pool. As a consequence, the water is on the chillier side. I found it very refreshing tho on a hot Miami summer day and not uncomfortable at all! Now back to the beauty of the pool: you feel like you're going back in time to some old-school Caribbean pool. There are waterfalls, different types of gorgeous palm trees, cave-like grottos, loggias, and more. There is also a shallower area for kids. The facility has a beach-like area but the chairs sell out quickly. There is also a fast-food café that sells burgers, chicken tenders, and more. Parking is free but there is limited availability. Being that I've been in Miami my whole life, I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to Venetian Pool. This is an underrated and sometimes forgotten spot in Miami! It's situated right in the middle of Coral Gables and is on National Register of Historic Places. The pool is made up of an old quarry that was excavated for nearby buildings. There are plenty of waterfalls, a separate area for kids, and a grotto where you can swim and walk into. They have a "beachy" area with sand where you can rent a chair or use a towel to lay on. There are a handful of covered picnic benches nearby too. They also have a cafe where they serve pizza, fries, soda, and some other snacks. The cafe was reasonably priced which I was pleasantly surprised about. A few things to note: - The water is COLD as it is drained and refilled daily from natural spring water. - The pool is VAST and is a minimum of FIVE feet deep. I recommended if you go with small kids or beginner swimmers, grab one of the life vests they have available. - It can get pricey for a family to come to Venetian Pool, especially if you are not a Coral Gables resident. Admission varies based on the time of year. Non-Residents Rates (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day): Adults (13 years and older): $21 and Child: (3 - 12 years) $16. The tickets range from six dollars for Coral Gable residents and $17 for nonresidents. This amazing pool has been open to the public since 1924. It is an amazing location to spend time with family and friends in an amazing clear blue pool. The venetian pool faculty are very friendly and nice. The pool is drained and refilled every single day to give it the clean and shiny blue color. It takes about four hours to drain it and six hours to refill it every day. You're able to bring your own drinks and food. Also do have a concessions but at this point in time is under renovations. One thing I do need to advise if you're going to go to Venetian pool recommendation purchase tickets online before the date you're gonna attend. It does get very packed and sold out. This pool is almost 100 years old so that's pretty cool to see and it's in a gorgeous location. There were definitely pros and cons from my day here. I had been wanting to come here for awhile because the pictures online look pretty. I'll go with the pros first. The staff is nice and the lifeguards are NO JOKE, they are so legit and play no games when it comes to watching the pool. They have a system which is pretty cool to see, so it's definitely a safe pool. Nobody is drowning on their clock. There were 3 lifeguards that I saw at each time. There's a cute waterfall as well as little grotto area which were neat. The grotto you can sit down in. And the temperature of the water was cool and refreshing for a hot summer day. Also, there is a cafe that sells food at a very inexpensive price which is a plus! They have chicken tenders, hotdogs, burgers, pizza and snacks for all around $5 each which was cheap considering the $20 entrance fee to get in. There's 3 sections of the pool, 4 feet, 5 feet and 7 feet by the waterfall. I'm 5'3 so i did find it annoying that most of the pool was 5 feet which caused me to be on my tippy toes the entire time, I felt like the majority of the pool should've been 4 feet. They did have a very small kiddie area but there really isn't much for kids to do there. They do offer adult and child size life jackets for free for non swimmers which is nice. I liked that they do not allow any children under 3 which made me feel a little better about all the people being in the pool. I also liked that after a certain amount of people they reach capacity and do not let anyone else in for the remainder of the day because I was afraid it would get too crowded. Some of the cons was the line to get in was long and if you paid with a debit/credit card it took forever to process because their internet is slow so it holds the line up even longer. I also felt like $20 to get in was quite expensive just for a public pool. The place was pretty and clean but for me it was a place to go just once, I don't see myself paying $20 again for just a pool. Another con is that if you want a chair you have to pay which is $5 each or you can rent a locker to store your stuff. Overall, it was pretty but I didn't think it was that special. We finally made it to the historic Venetian Pools. We locked our bikes right in front on a bike stand that looked like a bike. We brought sandwiches and drinks, which is fine, but we learned they won't allow coolers into the facility. You can also purchase food here if you like. We rented a lounge chair for an additional $5. To obtain the lounge chair you ask a life guard when you show the receipt and the guard will put the chair in your desired spot. Arriving at around 2pm the temperature was close to 90. To let off some steam, we dipped into the 72 degree natural spring waters and swam around the grotto. The pool is fairly large and a team of lifeguards rotate different spots every 30 minutes. You hear them blowing their whistles quite frequently. It was hard to believe there were so much rambunctiousness, but then again the place was packed with kids. And kids can be kids. The Pools get as deep as 8ft and at the deep end you find waterfalls that come down pretty hard, if you swim right under them you'll get pummeled! After a 20 minute swim you are ready to warm up for a little bit. At 4:30pm the show was over and after two more retreats into the Pools we had our fill. I don't even know where to begin. This pool is literally the most amazing pool I have ever been too. The pool itself is huge, has multiple depths from 2 ft up to 8 ft, waterfalls, caves, grottos and multiple lifeguards on duty at all times. The property is very nice and clean and has a picnic area and butterfly garden. The coolest part for me was the rich history of the pool and grounds. This pool was actually originally built in 1923. The pool is amazing! However, everyone should know that they will close the gates if they have reached capacity. So...if you're driving a distance to go here, make sure to plan for this happening. I had no idea. When we got there the signs said they were closed for the day. (At 1:45pm). There were a few people waiting around the entrance, so we decided to wait too...since we had driven a hour to get there. Luckily, I had a few snacks with me to keep my kids occupied!! At 2:30pm the doors were opened back up, but I guess that isn't guaranteed. I'm glad we waited, but I think they should add a message on their website to let people know, so vacation plans aren't ruined. read more
