I've gone here for cycling stuff, so can't comment on the ski aspect. The shop is good overall with products and repair services and friendly & knowledgeable staff, but there's this ONE PRICK who works there and ruins everything anytime he opens his big stupid mouth. Don't know his name, and don't wanna know. Pricko butts into conversations he wasn't invited to, blabs his unsolicited and ignorant opinion when it wasn't asked for, and can be dismissive, condescending or mocking even though he doesn't know what he's talking about. I've never had an interaction with this Dunning-Kruger troll where he didn't say, with total confidence, something that I knew was totally wrong, or where he didn't give an opinion even when it was about something outside his own experience. The store would be great if they got rid of him, but I dunno, maybe he's the owner? I've only been in a handful of times because I prefer to avoid him, but after the last unpleasant encounter I've sworn never to come here again. Too bad, but there's tons of other bike shops in the GTA that aren't infected with arrogant ballbags who do nothing but antagonize customers. I refer to this shop as "My Bike Shop". It's my go to local bike shop (LBS) because I know that I can trust their knowledgeable/professional advise without being pressured into buying anything. Here are my criteria for choosing Station SKi and RIde (SSR) as my LBS 1. Comfort and confidence before purchasing They will start by listening what your cycling needs are (usability and Budget) before they even offer you anything. Once your need is well understood, you will be provided with options from good, better, best and you get to try out each bike to your heart's content. 2. Service you can trust The shop has been around for a good amount of years and the owner (Mark) takes pride and emphasizes on service more than anything else. With that goal, they have the best mechanics who takes pride in servicing your bike and educate you along the way. 3. Reasonably Priced The prices from the shop is on Par if not a little bit lower from the industry prices. Look for Mark or Alex at the shop for a good deal LoL. In conclusion, I have recommended many of my friends to buy from this shop and they never disappoint. I also got invited and ride with their cycling club. read more

Nice little shop in Markham unfortunately. Great selection of gear, seems knowledgeable staff, but I wouldn't go back or recommend anyone I know to shop there for the following reasons. 1. Arrogant & condescending staff. That doesn't play well in my books. 2. Sloppy service when had skis and snowboard tuned. On both equipment, whom ever did the work didn't bother wiping and left marks which was not expected from a local shop. I expect this sloppiness from part timers that tend to work at big box stores, but not an independent retailer. 3. Poor customer service. Gave them one last chance last month in search of a new pair of skis. Walked in without a proper greet. Asked for assistance for something they unfortunately didn't have, but instead of maybe qualifying me to see if they can sell me something else (which I was opened to), gentlemen simply advised me to go someone else by saying if you can't find it there, you won't find it anywhere else...Well, guess what smart ass, I found it someone where in GTA. Have had several bike tune ups done with Station Ski and Ride, had a new crank put on (bought on ebay) and the chain replaced and they provided a fast hassle free service without attempting to sell me anything. Brought it back in after two months of riding because of an odd noise I was hearing and because I had suspected the new chain had stretched and the guy stopped what he was doing, put my bike right up and adjusted the gears chatted with me for a rather lengthy time, told me what it might be (pedals) and charged me nothing with trying to sell me new pedals. I walked in and sales were friendly. At least pretend to be. I ask for a bike short and this chubby guy showed me the bibs. $145 which is about that price for a bib. I ask him for a regular bike short and this is his stupid answer. Those short might fall off when you're riding. Coincidently this is the same guy that sold a bike to my friend 4 yrs ago and put him a bigger bike then he needs. This shop just want to sell you thinks that they can't get rid off. It just happens I know bike as much as he does and he didn't see it. I would never go back to this bike shop again. read more

They have good selection but cheesy sales people. They will try to sell you what you don't want and I was not happy with the pushy owner. They also will put down other retailers which leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I will not recommend them. read more

Awesome local sporting goods store! Our family are regular customers of Ski and Ride because we know we will get great service and products. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. We have bought many bikes for kids and adults over the last few years. They have been awesome bikes. Recently we have purchased ski equipment for the family. Knowledgeable and friendly staff guided me through my ski equipment purchase. I have never purchased skis before and they made the process easy by asking the right questions and taking the time to boot fit me correctly. They do not need to use overbearing sales tactics to get customers; the popularity of the store should speak to how great of a reputation the place has. The prices aren't cheap (my fault for waiting until winter season to buy skis) but their sale right now saved me some money. I've been dealing with Mark (the owner) since I started ski racing seriously at 13 yrs old (I'm 26 now). Always a pleasure to deal with and a great boot fitter. Since opening Station, this has been my go to store for all ski equipment. They have a great ski selection with top brands that have lineups that cater to a recreational skier right up to racers. Friendly, knowledgeable and personable staff. This is the place to go to if you are shopping for ski equipment. The only issue is I felt like I was in a car dealership when dealing with the prices. This is a beautiful little shop, however in my experience the people in charge are quite rude and have no interest in assisting you if you are new to winter sports. I'm relatively new to skiing and have decided to take the plunge and invest in my own equipment rather than renting from the resorts - I came here with my brand new skis and a pair of boots that I had gotten second hand to have my bindings adjusted. The staff I spoke to initially were friendly and helpful, however when they took my ski boot to have my binding fitted, the owner or manager shouted from several meters away (!!) wanting to know whose daughter's boots I had - it turns out my boots, although my size, were junior ski boots and would not be appropriate for adult skis (oops). I told the owner or manager that I didn't realize this and had gotten them from a friend when they upgraded their equipment, and he responded sarcastically wanting to know how old my friend's daughter was. After he had made it clear that customer service was an alien concept to him, I asked what other shop would be able service my equipment and he directed me to a competitor. It was a bit of a trek, but I was able to find another shop with knowledgeable and friendly staff who took the time to help me find a perfect pair of adult boots that fit wonderfully and go great with my new skis! Ultimately, if you are an experienced skier or snowboarder you will probably have a fine shopping experience at Station Ski & Ride, as they can clearly afford to alienate customers who are new to winter sports. read more

This place is overpriced and the staff are brutally unhelpfull. I went to sport check to look at skis for my daughter and then decided to check this place out. The same set of skis and bindings at sport check were $209.00 taxes included and this place had them listed for $409 plus tax. So I decided I'll skip the skis but buy 3 new helmets for my wife and two kids. Nobody offered to help and instead were all discussing how much there paychecks were. As we were walking out someone finally offered to help but by then it was too late. I spent $1800.00 on ski equipment that day and this place didn't recieve a penny because of the disinterest to help customers. Don't waste your time. read more

I didn't think a shop could botch a job as straight forward as replacing a brake cable and servicing a caliper. Not even sure the cables were replaced as I've never seen "new" cables so grungy in the exposed sections. At any rate, cable (let's assume it was actually new) trimmed too short and caliper set too tight...no play to use the barrel adjuster to dial in to my preference. When I returned to express my concerns...ATTITUDE. The "mechanic" said the barrel adjuster was broken when the bike came in...really ? Then, "it fell apart" when he started the work...really ? I asked, " do you have a replacement?" Answer...nope. Bike shop with no barrel adjusters...ok. Another "mechanic" stepped in because the first guy was too busy with some skater dude and his "downhill ride"; (insert Jeff Spicoli pot-head chuckle here). Second guy adjusts my caliper...sorta, but because cable is cut too short and pulled too tight, barrel adjuster is bottomed out and still doesn't function correctly. Here's your $91.53 and let me outta here as fast as I can get to the door. Would never let these jokers look at my bike again let alone touch it. Called VeloFix. Bike shop on wheels shows up at my door promptly as per appointment time. Yet another new brake cable (funny, this one wasn't all grungy...you know the things that make you go...hmmm ?) Disassembles my caliper and fully services it and resets it to factory spec. Magically, my barrel adjuster works again...you know the one that was broken and then fell apart...yeah, that one...hmmm. Another $100, only this time money well spent. Review would not allow me to give a zero star rating. Save yourselves money and aggravation call VeloFix the first time. Frank D.
