Stopped by drive through at 9:30 p.m. tonight. Ordered 2 triple steakburgers with cheese. Got home only to find the buns were stale and hard as a brick. Hamburger was luke warm and dried out like it had been sitting for quite a while. Maybe you get second rate food through the drive through - don't know but won't be doing it again. I ordered 3 pieces of hamburger and guacamole on top. I couldn't believe what they charged me for it. The price of the triple steakburger $3.79 and then charged me $1.49 for the guacamole! All I got was 3 pieces of meat and the guacamole! I didn't have a bun,no condiments and any fries but still charged that much! Total of about $6.00. I asked the manager about the price said that is the only way they could do it! Come on I was a manager of a restaurant, I know you can make a decent price for a meal with only that. Not very good for big groups had plenty of seats/ booths open but they didn't let us in. They were understaffed and had a lot of attitude when asked questions. Will never go here again because of that type of service. read more

Me & another friend visited the steak 'n shake in Lancaster, Ohio on victory rd , on October 7th mid afternoon. i ordered the Oktoberfest steakburger n fries along with a mocha shake. the food was hot n well prepared the new item is a hit wit me for sure. my friend got the bacon lovers steakburger n fries with a soda.. again the food came to us prompt n hot n well prepared. upon the food our server is the best we have ever seen & trust me when I say this I have ate alot of places and was a server myself for yrs.. marcus was very attentive and accurate. he smiled and made us feel very welcomed n as tho we was his only guest's. . he seemed to know his job in n out n enjoys doing it by his demeanor. . Walked in a slipped! The floor was extremely slippery, I watched a 65 year old lady fall and cut her arm. Took them over 1 hr to get our food to us. We ordered sliders and the hamburger looked like someone sliced a paper this piece of thigh off of an elephant. read more

The last few times we have eaten or tried to eat there, we walked out. Waited 30 minutes and dad not get our food so we walked out. Went to the one on Stringtown Road, Grove City and waited to be seated. No one came after waiting 5 minutes so we left. I think the service has gone down hill at all of them. read more

5 or 6 years ago, I used to come to this Steak N Shake several times a week. However in the past 2 years or so I'll only go back once every 6 months just to see if it still sucks, and yeah, it still does. Just stopped in tonight because it has been a while, and my wife and I waited to be seated for 10 minutes with multiple employees staring at us but not coming to help. Keep in mind, they were nowhere near busy, maybe 3 tables in the entire place. Once they finally got us seated, we waited another 10 minutes for a drink order. Nobody ever came back so we left. Make no mistake - this one star review is not for this particular visit. I have, in the past, had every standard restaurant bad experience at this Steak N Shake. Tried S&S again today (6-15-16). We walked in, waited behind two people waiting to be seated and no one bothered to come seat them nor us though there were open booths and tables. The staff just acted like we were not there. We waited a couple of minutes and I said to hell with it and we walked out. I honestly don't know how this place survives with such lousy service. You have to wait to be seated and you have to wait for someone to come to the register so you can pay. Half the staff doesn't know to bring your side (chili) when they bring your drinks. Does this place even have a manager? If they do maybe they need a change. Nothing seems to get the service fixed. Cmon man, shape up. read more

I have been to this location several times and each time has been worse than the last. For some reason this particular Steak 'N Shake has done everything possible to equate themselves with a seedy truck stop. The atmosphere in the restaurant causes your appetite to sour into complete queasiness. If "dousing yourself with toilet water as if you were inflicting a can of gasoline on yourself in order to start a fire" was part of the dress code, I would believe it. Whoever wears that potent, rancid, headache infusing fragrance must be taken out back to be shot. The putrid odor permeates every pour of the building and wafts out to the entrance way and gets caught between the door. One must don a gas mask or gasp for air as they hold their breath until gathering at the hostess stand. If that wasn't enough of an assault, the bathroom floors/sewer systems appear to have had gallons of grease poured over them. The stench was so terrible, I regretted my decision to order a burger. After sliding my way around the bathroom and carefully using my paper towel to use on the door handle, my cologne hazed brain registered that I was still in the nightmare of this place. My husband and I were seated at a 2 seater in the middle of all the foot traffic. Not desiring to get pummeled in the head with granny's 20 pound duffel bag of a purse, we suggested that we be seated near the drafty window. Our server almost predicted our desire and with an air of disgust, forced us to reveal our drink choices as though we were on the witness stand. His chili came back cold and our server who had had just about enough of us, decided she couldn't be bothered to return to ask how things were. We flagged down another server who displayed compassion and apologized. She muttered with embarrassment that "she didn't know what was going on 'up there", looking in the direction of the server gathering/gossip station. About 5 servers were behind that safety zone the entire time, all giving glances of dread at the idea of having to come out and face their patrons. My burger was so greasy, the bottom bun was wet, but I had lost my appetite anyway. The final straw was that we were seated at a table which could be pulled apart for a larger party. Our server insisted we give up one table and provide it for our neighbors. That didn't bother me, but it was her brash attitude about dealing with us that was so incredulous. I don't know where they come up with this staff. They all act like they are irreplaceable artifacts that come with the territory. Even the younger staff members acquired the same attitude. Steak 'N Shake should be considered a charming establishment giving nod to an era that used graceful social skills and basic respect for humanity. When Steak and Shake first came to town, it was an enjoyable dining experience. It has went downhill ever since. We haven't tried for awhile, so we thought we would pick up lunch from there today. Like others have said..........big mistake. My co-workers hamburger was put in under my salad, flat as a pancake. The fries were not in the bad and when I told the cashier, she acted like I was lying. She told me to give her back the bag and then laughed and said "oh we forgot the other bag." No apology, (you know it doesn't cost you a cent to say sorry) when I drove off, I grabbed a fry, cold. I didn't want to go back after all that to complain. read more

Went at 6pm to celebrate my son's birthday. Fifteen minutes waiting to be seated, 25 minutes before the server took our order, another 25 minutes before shakes arrived for 4 out of the 5 people in my party. She forgot to put my son's order in so he sat with nothing. Finally we got our food nearly an hour after we were seated but my son had to wait another 10 minutes for his food. By the time he got his order, half our party was already done. When we got our order, the fries were cold and the milkshakes were half melted. My grilled cheese with bacon had one 2-inch slice of bacon on the entire sandwich. I was surprised that no manager ever came to apologize and we were charged full price for our meal. My son's meal that was forgotten about should have been comped, at the very least. I will never be back. read more

Gave this location 3 tries and every time it was awul. I've eaten at a few other S&S in Columbus and they were fine. This place has no management at all. Service slow lazy with attitude and food quality poor. I even spoke to the manager on 2 visits and got a blank stare in response. I don't expect much from a burger joint but this place is the worst. Went to this location on my lunch break at 3am because they are open. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! sat in the drive-thru with 2 other cars and 30 min later only one order was taken. We live about 45 minutes away from this restaurant and my daughter loved them. It was always a treat for her to go there. We went in September after a dr appointment. It was about 11:30 am The restaurant was not busy. The woman on drive through was VERY rude. They had us pull up to the curb to wait. My coke tasted like dish water. We waited a while for the food. When the girl came to bring it to us, she was sarcasticly making fun of another customer ahead of us and how she didn't know enough to park at the curb. I told her my coke was flat and did not taste right. She sighed loudly and went back to get another. She brought it back and said "HERE, taste this and tell me if this one tastes funny"! I took a sip and said it will be ok because at that point I just wanted to leave. She made a face and mumbled something that sounded like thought so, nothing wrong with the first one either. As we started for home and opened our food (2 burgers, 2 fries, a coke and a shake, banana with fudge and a cherry, no whipped cream) we discovered that the shake had no fudge, one order of fries was gone and the burger that was supposed to be plain with only cheese and mustard was loaded with everything. I called back and was told that they would write my name down and we would get a free meal and a free shake next time we came through. We went back last week, not quite a month later. They had no record of me, they were very rude (both the manager AND the girl working the window). They had me explain what happened. After cross examining me and I gave details, including the fact that the woman who took my complaint call said she was from another location and just there that day to help out, he finally said oh that's blah blah) and begrudgingly gave me the food, ONLY AFTER scolding me like a child to not come through the drive through in the future if I had a problem, to come inside the store!!!! I was not told to come inside when I called to let them know my order was wrong. This restaurant gets ZERO stars from me. Their customer service is absolutely horrible and they cannot get an order right. This was not the first time we got an order that was wrong. Went to order carry out and I waited for a couple minutes before someone actually came. Then I waited another 15-20 minutes before I got my order. A lady was waiting at the register for at least 5 minutes waiting to pay. Guy came out with my order but it was missing a shake. I also told him about the lady waiting, even though SOMEONE in the kitchen should have seen her. Or you know, the 5 waitresses standing around doing absolutely nothing. Oh and there were almost 10 dirty tables that weren't attended to. I talked to 3 people before finally getting my shake, which was literally sitting on the counter for probably 5 minutes. And another thing: a family walked out because they were waiting too long. So great, I have everything. I go home, only to find that they completely messed up one of the burgers. Nice. Went back, got the correct burger. So it's been over 45 minutes before I finally got to eat. And to the manager who was on duty: do your job and manage your staff. While you're at it, make some staff changes because your establishment's current operations clearly don't function properly. I would give it zero stars, but that isn't even an option, but also the food was good. So good for you. I just don't think it's worth the wait. So don't just check the bag when you come out of the drive-thru, check each individual item. Twice probably. This wasn't the first time steak and shake messed up.
