So we had outside patio seating and the server was great, very prompt and helpful. To drink, I had a Rickers Red Ale which was a really good Irish beer then to eat I had the Clam Chowder with the Connecticut Lobster Roll. The Clam chowder was good but it needed salt and pepper so I just added it. The Connecticut Lobster Roll was phenomenal, the lobster was so fresh and the butter just letter over the lobster couldn't get anymore perfect. I ordered a steamer, and when it arrived, it smelled so bad and was covered in sand. I inquired about the cleanliness, and the staff informed me that I should use a 2-ounce cup of water to wash it. After a tour, I should have heeded my concerns after seeing some existing Yelp reviews. This restaurant probably does ok for its proximity to the cruise ship dock, but definitely not from its food. The restaurant has a cool look from the outside and the main dining area. Unfortunately, we were seated in the fraternity basement-vibe loft area. The $65 lobster dinner for one included: - high flour concentrate seafood chowder - Mussels steamed in grey water with no flavor - the most chewy textured lobster I've had (including all lobsters ordered in Indiana and prior frozen). - the corn was actually pretty decent The staff was all very nice (it's Canada) and we left a 20% tip because she was working hard and having to manage most of the floor herself up a flight of stairs from the kitchen. Hopefully she got to keep all of the tip vs rewarding management for such poor quality at a high tourist trap pricing. I don't understand how lobster can be so screwed up being seafront in the lobster Mecca. Hopefully this review and the other similar stories helps someone avoid the mistake we made by giving this place a try. What a find! This is a great little restaurant ! It has a very nautical inside and a outdoor deck that is popular! My appetizer of coconut shrimp was delicious and had a great sweet taste of the coconut. My husband's chowder was so thick and delicious- his spoon stood straight up when placed. My dinner of a lobster roll came with gravy draped French fries but I opted for a side Caesar salad and both were spectacular. Very fresh tasting lobster with little mayonnaise but amazing flavor. My salad had bits of bacon in it and the dressing was prefect. Our desserts that we shared were the chocolate Explosion cheesecake and the carrot cake were so good not a crumb or drizzle left behind. This place its super convenient since its right in front of the port and we even got a table right in front where we could watch our ship. The cruise ship I was on docked right across the street from the restaurant. I was interested in trying some Canadian beer in St John and it was the most convenient location. Beer options were limited, but they had a couple Canadian lagers (Alpine, Moosehead) that made it worth it. I also had the lobster roll with fries. I visited Steamers with my wife and toddler on a Sunny afternoon -- their new patio is by far the best in Saint John - directly across from the cruise ship terminal. I though the service was great - they had live, interactive entertainment and they really took care of my little one (which seems to be a rarity on a patio or at a seafood restaurant), making sure that she had a toy to play with and bringing her a roll to munch on as soon as we arrived (much appreciated!). We each had the lobster roll and it was very "meaty" with just the right amount of filler (celery & mayo). I was jealous of those who ordered the full lobster dinner -- this looked great! Arrived in St Johns today on a Regent 7 Seas cruise. We went in search of oysters and right across from the cruise terminal was The Steamer Lobster company. We checked and they did indeed have oysters, PEI malpeque oysters, 6 for $13. Worked for me. I started in with oysters which were medium sized, plump, briny and tasty. I followed up with a lobster roll with sweet potato fries. It came with a small cup of coleslaw that needed to be a large cup because it was that good. The lobster roll was plump with meat and not overly dressed. The sweet potato fries were crispy outside, creamy inside and good. And I don't like sweet potatoes, but my wife does. She had the fish and chips, fresh haddock, light crispy batter coating and fries with a VERY nice veggie seasoning. I had a local lager called Alpine that was just the right accompaniment. During the winter they have a dinner theater upstairs. The waitress told us it was already booked up to Christmas. read more
