I started searching for an artist and shop for my first tattoo little over a month ago.. After visiting several tattoo shops in the area I stumbled on Steel CIty. My first impression when entering the shop was wow! I was amazed at how clean and organized their waiting area is. As a medical doctor I'm well aware of what clean should look like in a business where peoples health is at issue. So, I was anxious to see what their personal tattooing booths looked like and whether they would meet what I think are my safety requirements. After a tour of the rooms by my request and a bit of instruction regarding the tattoo process I was not only satisfied with their level of cleanliness but impressed. Truly top notch. On to the tattoo. I was quickly greeted by Brian, Steel City's shop manager. I was familiar with him as he was the person I spoke with on the phone and one of the reasons why I chose Steel City. In Steel City I found something that the other shops lack, a person who is personable yet professional to speak with. I'm new to tattoos and really didn't know what to ask. I felt at ease quickly talking with Brian, absolutely no attitude. Something I can't say I experienced elsewhere. After discussing my idea briefly the manager arranged for me to meet with John, an artist at Steel City. Again I received the same professional treatment. I walked away from my meeting with John feeling confident that I found the right place. Back to the front desk where again I met with the manager to schedule my appointment. Very quick and organized. The day of my appointment arrived two weeks later.. Again the process was simple and stress free. I experienced the same level of professionalism as I received during my consultation. In all, my tattoo lasted about two hours. I'm extremely happy with the outcome. The drawing John provided and the tattoo itself are well beyond anything I expected. I'm very pleased and have plans in the works for my second tattoo. It takes much effort to report on a business that does all the right things. I feel that as a professional it is my responsibility to report on how well I was treated at Steel City, something I've never done before. read more

It took me 30 years get a tattoo. My best friend is tattooed top to bottom and she recommended these guys. I got my first tattoo by Elvis. He is fast, funny, and a great artist. He didn't charge me much and was very professional. So I came back and started a sleeve with John. He is the sweetest tattoo artist. I was a little hesitant considering I wanted an Alice in Wonderland theme and all I saw were skulls and "tradtional tattoo ideas"...all of which were great designs... I am still not dissapointed. I love what I have so far and anticipate coming back to finish my half sleeve. These guys are welcoming and I LOVE my tattoo. So f*uck the naysayers....this place is great. read more

Travelled from vt. to Steel City Tattoo because I had seen some of John B's work and it was great. I was not disappointed, my tattoo came out better than I imagined. Very clean lines, solid colors and exactly as drawn. John was great, even though he had 2 people waiting he didn't act rushed. He was definitely into what I wanted even though it was not the kind of tattoo he prefers doing. No hesitation going back for another.
