As every physician knows, doctors make the worst patients, and I was on my best behavior to avoid being one of those patients that every doctor hates to see when they walk into the treatment room. So, after a flight to Birmingham and a night at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook, I took an Uber to the Hedden Plastic Surgery Center and was the first patient of the day. Upon arrival, the office and surgical suite was stunningly beautiful and modern that could rival any medical office in the country. I was greeted by a friendly staff, and completed my paperwork on one of their computers. I was taken into an examination room, given a full informed consent and explanation of the miraDry procedure. Truth be told, I already did some research before hand via one of his nurses and was well prepared to have the procedure performed. I had the pleasure to have Wynn work on me and she was an outstanding medical nurse that has performed the miraDry procedure many times. After a local anesthesia that I barley felt, the miraDry procedure is like a handheld wand that uses miraWave energy that targets and destroys sweat and odor glands in your underarm. Once those glands are destroyed they do not grow back so that means once they are gone, they are gone for good. The entire procedure took about 45 minuted each side and I had pretty much zero pain and took a Uber to the airport to travel home. The only challenge was trying to keep the ice packs under each armpit and travel on a plane, so if I had to do it again, I would have spend another night in Alabama and leave the next day. So there you go, I had the miraDry procedure performed on myself and now I get to write a Yelp review about an embarrassing medical condition I have (well technically I am cured now so the correct word is "had" and I am glad I did it). The day after and next few days after the procedure were not bad at all, other than some significant swelling in my underarms that made me look like I was at the gym, and there was some mild redness. I really had no pain, no complications, and would 100% recommend this procedure and Dr Hedden to anyone that has excessive underarm sweating or odor. I am sure that there are other doctors and medical centers that offer this procedure, but I decided to go to Dr Hedden as I felt he was a world class expert in this procedure and after hearing him lecture and spend some time in his office, I am super happy I traveled to see him and his staff --- he deserves my 5 star rating on Yelp.

I was deciding between two plastic surgeons to do a double breast reconstruction from a fire 26 years ago. I had skin graphs after the fire, and then a reconstruction the year after. But I never have had normal looking breasts since the fire. I went to the original reconstructive surgeon from 26 years back, who gave me a new quote for the reconstruction surgery which was high, and he also said I would need another surgery after that one. Neither would be covered by insurance and for two breast surgeries I would be paying well over twenty grand. Even though money was an issue, I also didn't want to use someone who was cheap just because I couldn't afford it. I went to see Dr. Beckenstein to get a second opinion after researching and finding how much reconstructive breast work with women with breast cancer he performs. The vibe in his office was so warm and loving, not like the cold and sterile environment of the other plastic surgery office. I met with him, and found him to listen, to be to the point, and to have new ideas. He came up with a different treatment plan involving one surgery, retaining and grafting my nipples, and was able to get insurance to cover the mastopexy. It was a miraculous day when that happened. But if insurance had denied it, it would have been 1/2 the price for out of pocket pay for reconstructive surgery as the other physician, and would not require a second surgery. He would graft my nipples during surgery, and we would use one of his four tattoo artists on staff to perfect it down the line. When I asked the other physician how we would do tattooing, he was very unconcerned and just said, "We will figure that out later." Well, the main reason I wanted this surgery was to have nipples and areolas that looked like what they were supposed to be. One surgeon had four people on staff trained to create that illusion, while the other said we would figure it out later. I had the surgery last week, and the work he performed was nothing short of a miracle. The staff has been so helpful, and they make sure you have every key person at the office's contact info for questions during the pre and post op process. He called us back over the weekend when we had a question, and has been such a blessing. I would recommend anyone who is interested in a procedure to go see him. Not only is he an expert in the field, his prices are very fair, his staff is top notch, and his surgical hand is amazing. Thank you Dr. Beckenstein.

The tummy tuck was botched so badly i had to go back and have the whole thing re done only six weeks later. I wanted a mini tuck but he messed it up so badly i was cut from hip bone to hip bone 6 weeks later . Dr Oliver told my family in the waiting area that he shouldn't have even done it because I didn't really need it done. They were absolutely taken back from what he said and asked well why did you do it...... I also had asked him to do light lipo on the sides of my knees and he took it upon himself "to break up the fat " on the fronts of my thighs, well now I pay for that little extra daily!!! You can't do lipo on the fronts of your thighs and expect them to look good , it caused severe sagging, and they haven't looked good since. While i was trying to wake up from the anesthesia, which he himself told me i got too much, one of the nurses pulled me up to a sitting position by my arms { which was VERY painful after just having breast implants!!} and she proceeded to say ( wake up we are ready to go and you have to get up ) I tried my best to do as she asked but i was still just too sleepy. This being said Please think twice and do your research before letting someone do a tummy tuck on you. He was recommended to me by a breast specialist in Birmingham after having to have a large amount of tissue removed from one of my breast ( which is still a size smaller than the other one) , His nurse tried to tell him two times that i had a good amount of muscle removed and that breast probably needed to go a size larger than the other one but he didn't listen so now I still have a smaller breast but the indention from the removal of the muscle is gone. No problem--I gave her the information. I was then instructed to complete additional forms through the Klara site/app and was told I could log in using my email and a temporary password (my DOB). I tried that... and couldn't get in. So I called back. I explained that I was having trouble logging in, only to be told--repeatedly--that I had given the wrong date of birth. Not once. Not twice. But five different times, across five separate calls and email exchanges. She continued to insist that I didn't know my own birthday. Seriously? Look, everyone has off days--Lord knows I do--and while it was frustrating, I decided to let it go and move forward with the appointment. When I told her what treatment I wanted, she said it would need to be discussed with the doctor or estheticians. A little annoying, but I figured that was policy and scheduled the appointment with the understanding that I'd at least have a consultation to determine the best treatment. Fast forward to my appointment: Everyone I interacted with was either rude or completely uninterested--the kind of attitude people give when they clearly don't want to help. Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and stayed. Then I was taken to the back, where the provider had no idea why I was there. This African American man was initially a breath of fresh air just to see a person looking like me in a field that I needed help. I prematurely rejoiced. I was met with a very arrogant Dr. on my return visit. I questioned him on my results hoping to tailor my treatment and his whole attitude changed. He basically let me know in his responses and body language that he did not like being questioned. I receive a cysts dissolving shot I was told. I did not approve of this because this is for a cyst that I could neither see or feel, and when I refused to pay additional for this I was told don't worry about it but later billed me. I patronized this man two other times prior to this and to my surprise when I had an issue was treated terribly. It still to this day hurts to remember. Hopefully no one else has to go through this.
