From the outside, it looks quite small but like a Tardis, it opens out over 2 floors and has many functions. At the front of the shop, you can find all sorts of music-related gifts for that musical person you're buying for, ranging from pencils twisted into treble clefs to models of miniature grand pianos. There are some musical instruments for sale and some contemporary and pop sheet music in the middle section of the shop but it's in the back of the ground floor that you really find the gem. If you're a classical pianist, this section holds a veritable treasure trove of sheet music. Downstairs, there's performance space and space for dedicated publishers. On the notice board, there are lots of adverts for lessons, performances and groups looking for players. You can also shop from Schotts online. I have deliberated and bargained many many times, but they often are a little pricey. The things that I have bought over the years are mainly sticks, heads and DVD/VHS. On those items (incidentally the kind of products that seem to have their retail prices fixed by the manufacturer) which are not cheaper elsewhere, I have spent thousands across 15 years with Footes. Customer service can be patchy, but it does depend on the staff who are working there at the time. Way back, the staff were very knowledgeable and really bought me as a young customer. The range carried is not the widest in the world and lacks the custom drum presence of other drum retailers. The small display area is obviously the cause of this, but in Central London, what can one really expect? All in all, I really like Footes and no doubt will be a customer for many years to come.

When I called Monday morning and talked with a friendly helpful understanding man to let them know that I could not keep the appointment (in addition to a new London Tube worker strike) he graciously understood and let me know that they would be glad to help me at another time. I was then accused of being rude to the one out the employees after I informed them that no one had told me I needed proof of address. What's more annoying is that they requested that I had to bring the proof of address into the store and could not just email it to them. I then just returned the instrument as I was not interested in buying from someone that was not sure how to insure instrument properly without me making 3 trips.
