Time to get on the ball!!…read more Perth Chocolate works has the chocolate manufacturing on one side of the hallway, and this shop directly across the hall. I do love this funky mall! My favourite treat has been the chocolate covered macaroons - milk or dark chocolate. It doesn't matter which; they are both delicious! They offer "Snark" coffee - which is really good, or hot chocolate, among other beverages. Please note that the Perth Chocolate Works took over the space once occupied by Coutts, who has moved to an old building overlooking the water. This space is now more open and has no tables or seating inside, and less on display for sale, so it looks bright and clean. This might change as the holidays approach. Time will tell. Any time I go to Perth, this is one of the stops I make, so I look forward to my next visit. :-)

The four of us arrived a few minutes before our 12:30 reservation. We were instructed to make our way to a table upstairs. One elderly member of our group is unable to climb stairs. We politely declined and were told we would have to wait for a table on the main floor to open up. The stools we were offered to sit at were so tall I had to practically lift my mother up. Then we started to feel how uncomfortably cold it was. A table cleared up about a half hour later but the girl at the desk quickly sat a party who had just arrived. They had reserved that specific table we were told and we had to wait longer. So we were made to wait another hour. Meanwhile, staff appeared panicked and in over their heads. We waited two hours from the time we got there for our meal. By this time the restaurant had cleared. We were served cold waffles and pancakes to be washed down with undrinkable coffee. At no point did anyone come to check on how we were enjoying our food. What a disappointment. No dessert on the menu. Awful food. We would have left to go somewhere else but where could we go that wasn't already booked up? We paid the $130 and left. I've had nice meals there in the past but I see no reasons to support that place again. This was too embarrassing and maddening for a repeat experience.

My husband and I did a day trip to Perth as a part of our staycation. Before going, I did some reconnaissance online and searched for gelato/ice cream/frozen yogurt shops and Bananasplitz popped up. They just opened May 12, 2024, so was relatively new when we went in June 2024. They appeared to be the only place selling bubble tea in Perth, so I figured I could get bubble tea or ice cream depending on my mood when we got there. It was so hot that day we were there, and I really struggled with my decision, but when I saw they had a S'mores ice cream, I had to get it. The flavour I got was called S'more Galore and it's from Central Smith Creamery. This is a brand of ice cream that's not readily available in Ottawa so I was glad to have it. I got the one scoop in a regular cone ($5). It was tasty, but the flavour was not marshmallowy enough for me, lol. The ice cream was supposed to be toasted marshmallow-flavour, but it was rather subtle. I did taste the chocolate fudge ripple and the graham cracker crumbs though. I still enjoyed it though ;) My husband got the Black Raspberry Thunder from Kawartha Dairy (also $5 for a regular cone scoop). I was a bit shocked that he didn't get mint chocolate chip, his go-to flavour, lol. He enjoyed his ice cream, which is what matters. However, we can get Kawartha Dairy ice cream in Ottawa by the tub at the grocery store, including the Black Raspberry Thunder flavour, so when I'm at an ice cream shop, I prefer to get something I can't just get anytime, which is why I opted for a flavour from Central Smith Creamery. Service was friendly. However, the person serving our ice cream did not wear gloves and touched the cones with her bare hands and also touched the little chocolate piece she put on top of our ice cream with her bare hands. The saving grace, I guess, was that a different person worked the cash register, so at least the food handler wasn't also handling money. However, I always prefer it when food handlers wear gloves. They carry a nice assortment of desserts and muffins, have a retro Coca Cola fridge that has a nice selection of chilled options, and the service is quick and attentive. The main area has high ceilings and comfortable but traditionally stylish chairs, and prices are very fair. A brownie, chilled drinks, tea, scone and another tea was under $18, so since we were three people, that's less than $6 per person. Also has tons of parking. Check it out!

Anyway, taste is more like a regular bread. It is 3/5 at the best. Their pastry was made from scratch, but we didn't try them.
