I had insomnia for over two years. In those two years, I mostly believed the lack of sleep was anxiety related, but then other symptoms started to appear too -night sweats, a burning in my neck, etc. I thought once I worked on the anxiety, the symptoms would disappear and my sleep would improve, but despite so much attention to my mental health, nothing seemed to change. I woke up between 4 and 4:30 for months and became very familiar with just laying in the dark waiting for the day to start. If you have insomnia, you feel like a zombie. Everything good in life has a bit of a gray cloud over it when you can't sleep. Jobs, relationships, friendships, everything feels like too much energy when you can't sleep and yet somehow you have to show up for them (or at the minimum your job). I did a full work up, all the way to a CT scan of almost my whole body with my doctor at Kaiser, mostly for the sweating. They couldn't find anything wrong with me.
