I've had nothing but great experiences with all staff members from Maria the receptionist to David my practitioner and all in between. The staff is amazing, cordial, very helpful and o out of their way to answer questions and to get your herbs mixed in a very timely and expert manner. I started going to the Clinic about 4 months ago on the suggestion of a friend. I have mold sickness which causes my lungs and windpipe to inflame periodically. This makes breathing normally a challenge to put it mildly. In addition I have an artificial heart valve and three aneurisms that I am concerned about when breathing becomes difficult. Until I found the clinic and David I was forced to take Prednisone to eliminate the inflammation and make breathing "normal" again. Not something I wanted to do long term. With David's knowledge and help I immediately felt a positive difference within two days of my first visit, but still not 100%. Explaining what was going on with my body David listened carefully and asked a number of pertinent questions. After three visits and different herbal combinations he sent me home with a new mixture that has opened my lungs and windpipe and made my breathing almost normal again. In conjunction with "traditional" medicine, I am confident that the bouts of pneumonia I was having twice a year, the inability to breath properly and overall feeling exhausted due to poor sleep and lack of oxygen are all things of the past. I cannot recommend the Clinic highly enough. They are all a group of caring and well trained people who are making a positive difference in many people's lives. I say that because I continually see the same faces in the waiting area and in talking with them, find that their lives too are better because of the Clinic and their treatments. While traditional Western medicine will always be a part of our lives in some form, Chinese Herbal Medicine as practiced at the Alternative Clinic is playing a larger and larger part in healing my lungs and heart. Because of that and the resulting overall feeling of well-being, I am a firm believer not only in Chinese Herbal Medicine, but the ability of David and his colleagues to properly diagnose and prescribe the correct mixture of herbs and acupuncture treatments that succeeded where conventional medicine failed. I walked into the clinic feeling very sick of feeling terrible. Nearly a year before, I'd been t-boned into a dirt bank by an old school tank of a Cadillac and despite regular physical therapy and ever increasingly specialized specialists, I still hadn't recovered. If anything, after a small phase of improvement my symptoms were worsening. I still was having exploding headaches daily, back pain, extremely painful abdominal sensitivities and a bunch of other constant problems. Neurologists and other such professionals' answers were to prescribe me more and more of an array of extreme pharmaceuticals even to my protests that they were not working and were causing other issues in my body, and to refer me to other specialists who would do more testing and continue to add to this pool of prescriptions. I was living in confusion, constant pain and a pharmaceutical haze. Finally I did some research and found the Alternative Clinic - I chose them initially largely based on the lengthy authentic training of the practitioners. I also was impressed by their extensive herbal pharmacy. I figured if anyone could help .... I began seeing Andrew and after the very first session I began to feel better. This was phenomenal to me, actual improvement! The daily exploding headaches melted away until I could forget that I'd even been having them constantly. This started right away and then continued with marked improvement after each appointment. I am not kidding! Very soon, definitely within a few months, the daily suffering of these myriad symptoms that I'd been enduring had all but subsided. He helped me through as I purged the last of the so-called 'mild' (it was not mild AT ALL) nerve 'standard' pharmaceutical medicine that I was weaning off of too. Had an amazing experience. They're like the Jedi of Chinese medicine. My pregnant wife and I decided to give this a whirl while away on business in Asheville, NC. I have a physical job and was suffering from an SI joint injury that, as I later found, was a part of a chronic issue. After analyzing my situation, he determined that the very simple thread running through all of the spinal and hip issues that I was describing. What seemed very complicated made perfect sense to him. Literally after one session, I felt immediate relief. It's the legendary stuff that I heard other people had experienced from acupuncture, but I never had. One of the first things he said was that if I had had acupuncture before, it probably would not be like experience I was about to have. Boy was he right. I literally haven't felt this good in years. This is my second review, as now I have been treated by Andrew as previously reviewed, as well as by David. I received the same quality of care, knowledge and exceptional results from David's care. Painful myofascial complaints of my back, and neck were 80% relieved after the first treatment. It confounds me that so many other local modalities, both western conventional and alternative, had accomplished very little to resolve what David manged within a couple visits. Same story as with Andrew. David is a very qualified practitioner, and I highly recommend him at The Alternative Clinic. Andrew is great, it's no secret, and his schedule stands as proof. If you find yourself, as I do , waiting until a complaint is well beyond an annoyance, and your need serious relief, and you need it quickly, David's scheduled is usually much more available. You'll not be disappointed. Now if i'd only be better to properly nourish and hydrate myself, I could do much to prevent my situations from flaring up. I've been going to the Alternative Clinic for almost 10 years and it's my anchor for personal health and wellness. I've found incredible relief from my carpal tunnel syndrome, and been able to continue with dramatically lessened pain and avoid surgery. I am currently in full remission of my crohn's disease because I've been dilligently drinking my tea prescription. I've been going for about four months to see David at this clinic (neighbor & friend referred) and I couldn't be more pleased I've gone to Alternative Clinic for a host of reasons all of which speedily get resolved. I have been using TCM for years and have been to Chinatown in L.A and Toronto many times and I know what good Chinese medicine doctors can do to improve your health. I recently moved to South Carolina and became ill with unexplainable fever and weight loss, night sweats etc for over 7 weeks. I tried my primary physician but she couldn't help me..she did lab work 3 times but couldn't find anything. Highly highly recommend!! I started experiencing strange symptoms last year- head tingling and scalp tenderness, and nerve pain in my legs and arms ( cold, burning and tingling that moved around). In only 3 treatments I have been relieved of long term pain from years of wear and tear from basketball and other sports. That was 6 months ago and it's still pain free. I've had acupuncture before in Asheville and in New York and the Classical methods of acupuncture is different from the traditional methods practiced by others. (Andrew and JulieAnn have spent more that twenty years living in China) In other clinics they place the needles and then leave you alone for 15-30 minutes which is very relaxing, but at the Alternative Clinic your practitioner is with you the entire time adjusting, adding or removing needles as the Qi flow tells them. I went to this clinic after falling off the wall while rock climbing. I ended up with a headache and stiff neck due to the way I landed. I was happy that they happened to have an appointment the next day, and I got tremendous relief. Even my sensation to "crack my neck" went away for a week (though it came back because I didnt change my postural issues) However, it doesn't really stop there, as I was also suffering from hand pain, which I had gotten from punching something I shouldn't have. When I first moved to Asheville I suffered from asthma worse than I've had in 25 years of asthma. It was so bad in the fall that I thought I was going to have to move, again. What an amazing experience! Was able to make a last minute appt for a 30 minute massage (which took a moment to book on line!) as the stress of work lately had taken up home in my body, especially in my shoulder and neck.
