A few days ago I spent hours looking all over the strip n nobody had them, they only had men Aloha shirt, my husband has about 25! Then I looked in Kauai, Maui no luck till I got to Hilo, big island. A few years ago I had found the Hawaiian tote bag here too for just $14. I walked into Joy gift shop n immediately noticed on the mannequin the light green Aloha blouse MADE IN HILO! wow how did this happen, I don't like made in China stuff unless I had no choice. It was also size xtra small that fitted me perfectly I bought 2, a light green n dark green with matching necklaces made of fake pearls, I wanted to buy the whole rack but all other colors were all size small that would only fit a whale! lol , they were proudly made by the same family since 1957! It's made of rayon which usually requires dry cleaning but the low price $40 n necklace only $5 made it worth it. They had all kinds of gifts n fashion jewelry I bought quite a few gifts for my grandkids. I don't understand why somebody would report this business as closed, it is 100% open n full of customers bc of very reasonable prices n huge selection of Aloha clothing for men, women n children. I was so impressed I had to add their business back, this clothing n souvenir store deserves a 5 stars rating. Shop till you drop here n thank me later!

Because we were here for Merrie Monarch weekend. They were incredibly well staffed and had a great selection of items but of course their limited pieces were almost sold out by the time we got there. There's nothing else like this on the strip so you must stop here if you're in Hilo town for a long time or just a good time.

We were warmly greeted upon entering and had a wonderful time browsing all the merchandise for sale. It didn't take me long to find the perfect blouse for my friend. The fabric was nice quality, the design was fitting, and best of all, she liked the lehua graphic! In addition to the shirt, I also bought one of their automobile license plate holders because I thought it had a great message, "Aloha...live it and give it." The owner was there too and it's like a fashion show with them but it makes shopping FUN and EXCITING! The only thing is there is only 1 dressing room, but it is big because two of my cousins and I were able to change at the same time. The prices is great and their discount program is awesome. Closed Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. $15 fee for loading assistance but many of the pieces could be moved with a friend or on your own if they are the right size/shape. Tim checked us out and was very sweet and helpful getting us squared away. Ron was so kind and helped load items, providing cardboard to keep things from bumping into one another. Both gentlemen were so nice and helpful. We'll be back for future furniture needs! We're lucky to have a furniture store like this in Hilo!

On July 18th 2023 I went into the bamboo & teak furniture store in Hilo to pick up a table and…read morechairs for a friend that I had referred. The friend that purchased the furniture told them I would be down that morning to pick it up. When I got there, I made contact with a female employee that had been cruising around on an electric scooter. The female employee told me that the table was in a storage bay at the end of the building and the chairs were in a shipping container on the other end of the parking lot and that there was a $15 loading fee. I told her that my two daughters and I could load the furniture if she could bring it out. Her and another employee went down to the bay where the table was, and removed it from a stack of tables and set it just outside the bay door. She said here you go and again told me the chairs were in the shipping container at the other end of the parking lot, before walking away. We carried the table the entire length of the building back to my truck and then had to retrieve all six chairs from the shipping container. After loading all of the furniture, I found the female employee wandering around the store with what appeared like nothing to do except trying to look busy. We were the only customers there and the parking lot was empty. I asked her if the owner of the business was around. She told me that he wasn't working that day and rudely asked what I needed. I calmly explained that from a customer point of view, I shouldn't have to gather all of the furniture that was ordered. I told her that I felt that the furniture should've been in one area for me to load up. I also told her that I had never had a furniture company charge to help wrap and load furniture. She told me she was too busy to help me wrap and load, yet wasn't helping any other customers and to me was just wandering around trying to look busy. She told me that she didn't have time to baby every customer that comes into the store, and that we were lucky to even have a place to shop for furniture. She also told me they barely survived Covid. I told her that over the last year I had easily spent several thousand dollars and referred many people to their business and from a customer point of view this wasn't the proper way to treat customers. She told me that she didn't care and didn't need my money. I told her that if Covid hadn't taken them out of business, her attitude surely would. I also told her she shouldn't act like they are the only furniture store on the island because there are other places to shop. She told me good, shop somewhere else. I assured her that I would be shopping elsewhere and would be speaking to the owner. During my conversation with her I never raised my voice or got rude yet she was very rude and repeatedly interrupted me while I was speaking. I made several attempts to contact Mike the owner and never received a call back. I don't know what happened to this business. It used to be awesome you would buy furniture, they would have it wrapped and ready for you they would help you load it and often I would give them 10 or $20 as a tip. I try and support local businesses anytime that I can, but when treated like this by an employee, I will not go back and will not recommend them to anyone.

SCAM ALERT!!! Do…read morenot trust this sneaky old man nor the younger woman who hangs out with him. We were a family of two adults and two younger teenagers strolling around Hilo, shopping and enjoying the farmers market. We hadn't been on the Big Island for very long and this was our first opportunity to see what kind of local items were offered on the Island. I say this knowing a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old with their own hard-earned chore money, wanted to buy some souvenirs. We meandered into the Akaka Falls Trading Post, and the old man in the photos showed them some cheap plastic necklaces (a knock-off of what is normally a traditional Hawaiian real nut necklace, found everywhere for $4-$5). Without us adults nearby, he sneakily sold EACH child a $15 plastic (not even a real nut) necklace because they didn't know any better. As this was happening, the woman was nonstop talking my ear off telling me about her daughter who lives near me in California. Okay... ??? I was trying to be polite until she told me her daughter, who is 20 years old, already had 4 college degrees... as I questioned this, not surprisingly I could plainly see this was a lie based on her back up statements. Fine. I'm not here for a new lifelong friend, I'm clearly just a person who has the patience to listen to some unhinged woman's ramblings. The old man was also trying to get my boyfriends personal information so he could start sending him a new newsletter he was writing (huh?) After these diversions, and the sneaky theft of money from the children, the old man wanted to pose for pictures with the kids which seemed creepy in the moment as well, but we nonchalantly complied... maybe it will make for an interesting vacation memory? We realized much later what had actually transpired... and thus reminded me of a time when riding the subway in Barcelona when a pick pocket was taking my attention away on the subway, as he simultaneously stole my camera from my bag. Everything is clear in 20/20 hindsight.
