Review #13 for 2020…read more Aunty Zennie Sawyer of Haku Designs has been making AMAZING clothing and accessories from her original screen prints for several decades. All of her designs are based on things from the āina such as kalo, kupukupu, lauae, liko, ōhia lehua, and more. She primarily prints women's clothing and accessories (v-neck shirts, tank tops, scarves, etc), but she also does a limited stock of men's clothing as well. Last year I provided Aunty Zennie with a collared black shirt and requested a liko print, and I was super stoked with how it came out. Every time I wear the shirt, I get lots of compliments, and I tell people it's one of a kind! She recently did a copper colored print of kalo on a dark gray shirt for me, and I'm stoked to wear it once the stay-at-home order is lifted. Aunty Zennie mostly does small craft fairs, but she also posts her stock to Instagram and Facebook and can be contacted on those platforms for orders. They have an uncountable number of dresses and shirts for all sizes and genders, and it's easy to find a matching set (dress for her, shirt for me) with identical prints, as my wife insisted on purchasing before attending a luau the following night. And the prices are surprisingly reasonable, with a adult dress, adult shirt, and toddler shirt/shorts combo (for our little one on the way!) ringing up around $70 bucks! We were warmly greeted upon entering and had a wonderful time browsing all the merchandise for sale. It didn't take me long to find the perfect blouse for my friend. The fabric was nice quality, the design was fitting, and best of all, she liked the lehua graphic! In addition to the shirt, I also bought one of their automobile license plate holders because I thought it had a great message, "Aloha...live it and give it." She has…read morehelped me so many times over the years, and every single time she is consistently kind, patient, and genuinely helpful. She is always smiling when I see her, and she has such a calm, sweet nature that immediately makes you feel comfortable asking questions. When I come in with a project, Bernie doesn't just point me in a direction - she actually brainstorms with me, offers suggestions, and helps me think through what would be most helpful. Even when I change my mind (more than once ), she never makes me feel rushed or annoying. Her patience is something I truly appreciate. I always look for Bernie when I come in because I know she is willing to help and will do so with kindness every single time. Honestly, if it weren't for her, I would probably just go to Walmart - but Bernie is the reason I keep coming back here instead. A lot of customer service these days feels rushed or impersonal, but Bernie is different. She consistently takes the time to be thoughtful, speaks kindly, and makes the experience enjoyable.
