The table d'hote is $44 at lunch, which comes with soup or salad and about 3 mains to choose from. A couple of other choices come with an add-on of $10-12. The complimentary bread was divine and I enjoyed my salad for its tartness and the quality of the baby gem lettuce. My pasta dish with sage and mussels was also very enjoyable, the pasta itself top notch and done perfectly al dente. Service was exceptional and very personable. At the door step of Old Port, Stellina offers the comfort of traditional Italian cuisine with a diversity and richness that permeates Montréal. The experience begins before you even step inside with Stellina's warm glow beckoning as you look from the outside in. Once inside, swipe the black drapes aside and absorb the ambiance. A friendly hostess will take your coat/jacket and the maître'D shoes you to your seat...the stage for the evening is now set. I chose the bar, and was delighted by the service, the staff's attention to detail, thorough knowledge, and excellent recommendations. The opening act was a gin-based cocktail, "La Ravigliosa" made with Chartreuse - somewhere between a "corpse reviver" and "last word" For antipasti, the endive insalata with radicchio, beurre de noisette, and crotonese was bright, slightly acidic, and cleansed the palette in preparation for one of the spécialité de la maison. The raviolo (actually three large ravioli) was stuffed with salmon and each bite absolutely melted. To accompany, a bottle of Capanna 2015 Brunello di Montalcino (DOCG) paired nicely with earthy tones, black fruits, and a mouthwatering "spine." Dolce took the shape of a somewhat deconstructed tiramisu that was just sweet enough and not too heavy. For a special finale, the sommelier introduced a grappa from Northern Italy, "Bottega Maestri." Not for the faint of palette, this robust grappa explodes with flavor (dried fruit that evolves into oaky-vanilla tones) and exudes the same warmth you see when looking into Stellina from outside. BOTTOM LINE: Their freshly made pastas were certainly the highlight. Located in the touristic area that is old Montreal, this newly opened Italian fine dining restaurant is worth checking out. Their menu comprises of a small selection of appetizers, main courses, and desserts, and judging by the dated stamps, it will be a regularly rotating menu. Their offerings are also quite veggie forward and this is, perhaps, their twist on modern Italian cuisine. The interior decor is quite on trend, with an open kitchen by the entrance (where they prepare their pasta), bar seating on one side, and continuous sofa seating lining the other side. The service was impeccable, with friendly, attentive, and non-intrusive servers (i.e., they never reached across the table, water never reached below half glass, a spilled drop of wine led to an immediate replacement of a plate, etc.). Finally, they have a small but dedicated wine list that I read was sourced from a particular specialty wine importer from Italy. My DCs and I ordered the "mystery" prix fixe for $70, which was essentially the chef's choice of 6-to-7 items of their regular menu + specials of the night but portioned appropriately per person. Let's start with the "winners": TAGLIOLINI: This was perhaps the highlight in its simplicity of a buffalo butter sauce and topped with Parmesan cheese, but the freshness and flavour were quite astounding. STROZZAPRETI: Although it visually reminded me of udon noodles, the rabbit was really well done. FUNGHI SALTIMBOCCA: This dish of king oysters wrapped in prosciutto is a must-order with its various flavours and textures. Here were the "maybes": ZUCCA: If you like squash, this was well done, but I'm not sure I would order it again. PORTERHOUSE STEAK: This was one of their specials for the night, and although it was tender and done medium rare, I think our table might've preferred to try another pasta dish that was more meat forward instead; after all, when in Rome... And here were the "nahs": BARABIETOLA: This beet dish didn't feel special from most beet dishes you can order, and the pistachio flavours were really quite absent. CRUDO DE TUNNO: While I applaud a non-traditional approach to tuna crudo in a tomato sauce and bean puree, I'm just not sure it worked for me. All in all, my group very much enjoyed our meal here. The pacing of how quickly and how many dishes came out could probably be improved, but these are minor gripes for a restaurant less than 2-weeks old. In this regard, we were all impressed by the service given our understanding of how challenging it can be hiring experienced staff during pandemic, and the kitchen certainly showed how capable they are. read more

I think this place is one of the best Italian places I've been in MTL and I've been to alot This place is always full, so we have to reserve weeks in advance We decided to seat at the kitchen area and I loved that there pasta was freshly made and loved seeing the ppl cook the food. You can also see the owner cooking. The place is very clean and nicely decorated, I loved the bar area aswell. The food was so good, we got the burrata and the octopus to share and the flavours were amazing and it was different then other restaurants which I loved We also got 2 different pastas to try and the oxtail agnolotti was divine the oxtail inside was so tender and the pasta being fresh made everything so good We shared a panna cotta and the torta de limone and they were both good, not too heavy to finish our meals The drinks were good aswell. High expectation as a foodie friend highly recommended this place. Restaurant is modern and service is attentive. Not too loud if you go early evening but did get pretty crowded towards 8:30pm. We were maybe 2-3 tables at the beginning of the night and it did take a long time for the plates to come. Pricing is in the higher end and the plates are quite small. None of the plates were memorable...as a matter of fact, the spaghetti allé vongole was very salty! The steak florentine came highly recommended by my foodie friend, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. Asked for medium rare and it came closer to medium than medium rare, also lacked seasoning. Not the worse Italian restaurant but definitely not the best I have been for the higher price point. I had the tasting menu (CAD$100) and it was exceptional. The dishes came out at the right pace timed to my finishing the prior dish. Presentation and flavor were outstanding, as was variety. I'm all for fresh pasta. That's the primary reason why I wanted to go and I was not disappointed! It is a quiet, quaint (modern) restaurant, which I love. However, we were seated next to a super loud group (not the restaurants fault), which made it difficult at first to have a conversation. Our waitress, Caitlan, was amazing. She explained every option to a T, and gave us the best recommendation for dessert, the tiramisu. Coming from an Italian background and spending a lot of time in Italy, I can confidently say that the pasta was fresh, homemade, and so delicious. "Fanculo la dieta!" written on the cocktail napkins add a nice, humorous touch to the evening. (Translates to: "F-- the diet!") My pasta came with a mountain of freshly grated cheese which I LOVED. The wait staff did the best they could with poor management... the host (a middle aged man) was quite rude to the waitresses (young women), using the "f" word in front of customers and being quite condescending about English speakers. Yesterday in Montreal, we visited this new Stellina restaurant, which was in the recommendations on Eater. The first impression of the restaurant was good - the design is modern, the room is large. The appetizers came quickly enough: the artichokes were good, the buratta was delicious, but the dressing for it was not very successful - caramel or something else that was very hard. Be careful to not damage your teeth! We had to wait 50 minutes for the main course. I ordered the most expensive pasta dish, expecting it to be the best! Imagine my surprise when they brought me a plate in which there were just spaghetti and cheese - there was no any kind of gravy, decoration of the dish- just plain macaroni and cheese! I was shocked, because when we go to an expensive restaurant, we're expecting not only a culinary pleasure, but also on aesthetic pleasure in order to enjoy the chef's art! But the message here was completely absent. I was offended. I consider it an insult to eat such a dish in a restaurant. Of course, I refused the dish. Furthermore, the staff started arguing with us, insisting that we pay for this dish - which was the second insult that evening. By the way, the steak from the specials for that day was absolutely tasteless and very tiny. Unfortunately, the place left a bad taste in mouth. Please avoid. read more
