Please DO NOT give this office your business. I went into Dr. Nguyen's office looking for a new…read morelocal dentist. Her staff was personable enough, but the work she did was so terrible I had to get it RE-DONE just weeks later. My new dentist was appalled that she would have allowed me to leave her office and arranged to have x-rays sent to my insurance company to explain why I had to have re-work done so quickly. The insurance company and my new dentist asked that she PAY ME BACK for the work she did. I went in for regular dental work and needed two fillings. I warned her up front that since I was a pre-teen, I have had a very abnormal reaction to numbing agents. It takes A LOT to get my numb. This is because I have a central nerve that runs VERY close to the surface. I have had multiple doctors confirm this. She said okay, no problem. When the work started she gave me one round of numbing and tried to start work. I told her, "I'm sorry this is very painful. I told you I am a little different." She said, "Oh you just need some more time for it to work." OK. She tried again 15 mins later. Again, INTENSE pain. I said, "Please, I am telling you, this is still painful." She reluctantly gave me another round and waited another 20 mins. (Mind you I am now 45 mins in the chair and nothing has been done). She tried again and I said it was better, but still could feel things. She said, "You shouldn't be able to feel this." And I reminded her for a THIRD time that I have a different physiology than many. She then leaned into me and asked, "Well I know you may not want to say this, but are you on drugs?" EXCUSE ME?!! "Well this would happen if you were a heavy recreational drug user. You should just tell me if you're an addict. That would make this easier." I was STUNNED. I had warned her prior to doing ANY of this that I have had trouble with numbness and THIS was her reaction?! It sadly bears stating, that I am a black woman... I hope that is not why she made this ridiculous and offensive assumption, but ..... "NO." I told her. "I am NOT an addict or drug user. This is exactly what I told you about before we started nearly an hour ago." "OK if you insist... but it really would make things easier." I wanted to get up and walk out, but I am now mid-drilling (she did SOME before I couldn't take the pain anymore) and I didn't know how to leave with my mouth LITERALLY mid-procedure. When she finally gave a final round of numbing agent and I could take it. But since we were so far behind she kept stopping the work and going to work on OTHER PATIENTS in the middle of my procedure. Finally 2 hours in on 2 fillings, she barely buffed my fillings and said...OK you'll have to come back another time for me to finish. The feeling in my mouth was UNBELEIVABLE. The filling was so rough I could feel my tongue was going to be rubbed raw. My jaw was ACHING (I have TMJ) from holding it open for 2 hours. And what I didn't know is that her work was so harsh that my gums would recede. They are STILL (a year later) not normal and I have to have my new dentist put a protective sheath around them every 6 months or so to prevent pain because my gums have never been normal again around those teeth. My new dentist is lovely. She Immediately LISTENED when I told her about my issue with numbing and I have NEVER had a problem again. When she saw the work Dr. Nguyen had done, she was so disturbed she said she wanted to make sure she documented the HORRENDOUS work she did so that it could be corrected without me having to pay out of pocket. (Insurance companies will not pay for duplicative work in the same 6 month period without documentation.) The insurance company agreed to pay -- process that. I asked my new dentist what I should do about this. I was traumatized, discriminated against and my teeth were REALLY messed up. She said the only thing I could do would be to ask for the portion of the work I paid for to be returned. When I called Dr. Nguyen's office to explain. Her staff was again, kind but all I received from her was a folded blank piece of paper in the mail from Advanced Dentistry, with a check for $248. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE Dr. NGUYEN YOUR BUSINESS. DO NOT TRUST HER WITH YOUR DENTAL HEALTH. PLEASE don't be me.

With my last visit, Dr. Nguyen noticed that I had a tooth that was a little too long so she helped shaved it down to look more normal. It took weeks to heal and I still have some scar tissue that I had another dentist examine. The whole ordeal was very painful for my tongue. Later, when the Novocain wore off on my cheek, there was a lot of pain there too from the drill damage. At the time it happened my mouth would fill up with blood, and I had to keep swallowing it because everyone left the room. (he sees multiple patients at one time - chaos). I told him at the time there was a lot of damage to my tongue and he waved that off saying: "little cut". Well, it was a LOT more damage than a little cut both on the tongue and where he drilled into the cheek. When he works on you his hands shake and as another reviewer said it appears he has some kind of problem. When I got to my car I called my wife and told her the situation. By the time I got home she had looked up other reviews and found numerous references to the hands shaking. I quote them below: "Also, the dentist shakes like he has parkinsons. I am sorry if he does have a disease that causes him to tremmor, but maybe not the best profession." Frank M. one star review Yelp "Run away from this psycho dentist from Hell! He's freaking crazy and his hands shake up when he's doing your teeth.." Meme I. Yelp "Yes, his hands shake .." Nicole C. Yelp I've had several doctors tell me I have a high tolerance for pain)" L.P. Yelp "DO NOT GO HERE. It seems that the dentist has some kind of neurological disorder that effects his motor skills and he cannot control his hands very well. This causes him to be really rough and clumsy when he is drilling etc. He even dropped the drill inside my mouth while it was still engaged, causing a hole to be drilled through the underside of my tongue - I was bleeding everywhere. He did not apologize or anything but acted like it was totally normal." Ed Tinker Google Maps review

My husband was scheduled for 4.5 hours and needed quite a bit of work. Well, between Dr Strange and his assistant, and the rest of the friendly staff that just come to say hi and check in, thank you for another amazing experience. To the patient next to my husband, who came in immediately complaining to the hygienist about being 10-15 minutes late, stating that because they were running 10 minutes behind, YOU were going to be late for your next appt. I would like to say to you, that if you are reading this, and it was you at Newcastle Dentistry, it's not fair for you to treat the staff so poorly. People need to realize, things don't always work out where EVERYTHING is on time and by NO MEANS does any dentist office or medical office for that matter, have only one patient and everything runs smoothly. It just doesn't happen. The Hygienist was so kind and patient with you but most of all, the MOST professional but you still treated her terribly. So to the hygienist, I don't know your name but I apologize for this lady and the way she acted. Stay amazing! I have worked in the medical field for 23 years and because I cannot speak up for myself when patients get upset with my place of employment, I will speak up for the staff, at Newcastle Dentistry. Next time you come to an appt and you are that upset, maybe you should just reschedule, rather than go off on someone who is only trying to do their job, because emergencies happen and things come up and just because you have an appt time, that is an ESTIMATE. Next time you are running 10 minutes late because of things out of your control, maybe they should just tell you that your appt has been cancelled. They don't get paid for you to go off on them and do NOT deserve that type of treatment. So next time, think before you speak, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all and lastly... TREAT OTHERS HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED!!!!!

Bluntly I found Newcastle Dentistry warm and cold. Dr. Rosanna and her dental assistant were the warm aspects. I thought they were great for the little time they saw me. I was a bit surprised to find their x-ray machine was a bit inadequate. The last office I went to was able to x-ray all my teeth. This one's machine was unable to. The dental hygienist was cold. At first she was friendly, even complimented my teeth, but then seemed to become very irritated when I told her I rarely flossed. She went from friendly conversation to being very short and snappish. I also didn't care for the layout. It basically is the assembly line format - a line of chairs separated by dividers. I could hear everything going on around me, all the drilling, all the motors whirling. It did not comfort me. Upon checking out I was reminded how much I missed my old dental office's office staff. They weren't great at anything else but I always left with a cheery goodbye. The receptionist here barely said two words and it was enough that I opted not to schedule a follow up appointment.

I had a difficult emergency need for a root canal in a tooth that was causing me an immense amount of pain. I couldn't eat, drink or put any pressure on my tooth, the pain when doing so brought me to tears. Literally. I hadn't eaten in 3-4 days. I don't care for dentists. Dr. Odegard has been the only dentist I'd let touch me for about 10 years or more. Unfortunately my tooth was beyond what he could do for me and he referred me to Dr. Becker. And oh boy.... Am I glad he did! From the moment I walked in her door I was treated so professionally and kindly. Her staff is amazing. I was extreeeeeeeeemely nervous and scared. I didn't know what to expect and starting a new Dr/Patient relationship was very intimidating for me. I explained my fears and anxiety to her and her assistant. (I think his name was Andre?) Sorry if that's incorrect. He was the one with the cute man-bun lol. They gave me nitrous oxide to help relax me. She explained everything step by step during my procedure. She has a very gentle touch and a soft and sweet bedside manner, which I appreciated very much. I know my anxiety can be alot. But they were very kind and patient. I filled out all necessary forms the night before online. And I was sent a cost estimate so nothing would be a surprise the next day. My final cost at my appointment was actually $300 LESS than her estimate. This made my hubby very happy lol. I would highly recommend Dr. Becker and her staff to anyone and everyone who is in need of a root canal procedure!! Thank you Dr Becker and staff for taking such excellent care of me today. Being pain free now is a gift that I can't even begin to be thankful enough for. I appreciate you more than you could possibly even know!
