When someone first referred me to NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association), I was initially disappointed to find that they don't do things that way. The initial consultation included an extensive discussion about my symptoms and explanation of factors that would contribute to them. Other chiros I have been to in the past had an "assembly line" feel where they did minimal interaction and discussion with their patients and then did 1-2 quick adjustments and then sent you on your way. So, I was impressed with the care and time he devoted to educating me on how to improve my condition and prevent further aggravation. Note: Because of the time it takes, I do not recommend scheduling this extensive first time consultation if you are in a hurry or already have a severe headache. The adjustment portion of my visit is why I selected 5 stars. He did not just do a 1-2 adjustments, but did over 8 adjustments -- to my neck, my back, my hips and even my legs. I'd never had such a thorough adjusting before and never walked out of a chiro with so much relief. During my first visit at a DIFFERENT chiro (that I went to prior to Dr Sather), the chiro cheerfully said "It looks like I am going to be seeing a LOT of you here!" after just a few minutes into our first appointment. I never went back. Who wants to go to a chiro who is content with having you pay for tons of visits with seemingly no concern for the financial and time impact on their patients? So, I was surprised when Dr Sather ended our visit by giving me a printout with diagrams of stretches that I could do at home, as well as a recommendation for a brace that I could wear during my recovery to help reduce future strain and to lessen the amount of future trips I would need to make to a chiro. I was very pleased with how smooth the scheduling process went and how accommodating they were with my busy work schedule. I was seen by two providers (let's say provider 1 and provider 2 for privacy purposes). Provider 1 was very helpful by discovering a baseline and developing a course of action to strengthen some of the weaker aspects of my body. Provider 1 communicated with me that they were going to be out of town for 2 weeks. They also recommended that I were to be seen 2x a week for 4 weeks. So a different provider was assigned to me in their absence. A couple of days later provider 2 saw me for the first time and we discussed my history again. As soon as they were finished doing a basic adjustment with me they mentioned they typically spend their first appointment with a patient discussing history to later develop a plan. Do providers not refer to prior patient notes at all? Wouldn't have provided 1 laid out a game plan for provider 2 to pick up at? They proceeded to tell me that they would continue to address my concerns at the next appointment. Forget about it. My job only covers 12 appointments a year and I was finished with wasting my time. Major logistical issues. Why would provider 1 be assigned to me if they knew they were going to be gone? That ruins the streamline for continuity. Provider 2 didn't seem to even mention any of my concerns and when it comes to my health and wellbeing I would rather spend time elsewhere.
