The cabin…read morewas spotless, cozy, and well-equipped with everything we needed -- including comfortable 2 sets of bunk beds and a queen size bed, a kitchenette, and a private porch where we could relax with our morning coffee while watching the sunrise. The campground itself is beautiful and peaceful, with plenty of shade and well-maintained grounds. We loved taking advantage of the bike and kayak rentals. I did enjoyed the fire pit we had outside the cabin where my friend and I made delicious s'mores. It's also just a short drive to Madeira Beach and other fun spots around St. Pete. The staff were friendly and helpful from check-in to check-out, and you can tell they really care about making guests feel welcome. A huge thanks and a huge shout out to Raquel who made sure we had an amazing experience. She not only make sure our cabin was immaculate at all times but she also provided us with useful information about places to visit around the area like John's Pass, St. Petersburg Pier and War Veteran's Memorial Park. This KOA has the perfect mix of nature and comfort, and it's ideal for a group of friends, couples, families, or anyone looking to unwind in a cabin without roughing it. We were told we had to leave even though we had a confirmation email from them for that site. We were still in the process of finding a new RV Resort (I was literally still on the phone calling around) when it hit 6:00 so they closed the office and left. They had no idea if we even found a place to go. They parked the new people right outside our site to get us to get out faster. They did not care that their error (system or not) displaced us. They did not even attempt to make it right.

The beaches were absolutely beautiful with soft white sand and clear Gulf water that looked straight out of a travel magazine. Even though it's a popular park, it still felt peaceful and relaxing. One of the coolest parts was how much variety there is here. You can relax on the beach, bike the trails, go kayaking, fish, camp, or explore the historic Spanish-American War-era fort. Walking through the old fort while looking out over the water was such a unique experience and made the park feel completely different from a normal beach destination. We also spotted wild Nanday Parakeets flying around the park, which made the whole place feel even more tropical and unforgettable. Seeing bright green parrots while standing near the ocean was definitely not something we expected. Everything felt very clean, well maintained, and easy to access. Fort De Soto Park is the kind of place where you could easily spend an entire day and still not see everything. This kind of friendliness has turned out to be the norm during our 3 years of wintering here. There is a heated pool and hot tub as well as a large rec room and card room which are in constant use. The owners keep everything in pristine condition. There are always plenty of activities going on and you can be either as busy or as laid back as you like.
