Wonderful daycare/pre-school. I know my kids are getting great care, and they're learning every day. Structured curriculum starting in the nursery, and they teach sign language and Spanish as part of the curriculum. My oldest child has flourished and I expect my younger to do the same. Avoid taking your child here at all costs. This daycare isn't safe until Marcia is gone. I've waited quite a bit to write this review to give an honest and truthful opinion of this daycare. I have reported many issues to licensing but before doing that I contacted Stepping stone (Headquarters) directly and sadly no changes were made besides the day licensing payed a visit. Aside from breaking many licensing issues such as unsanitary diaper changes and failure to write incident reports the facility has mold and continues to get water in many of the classrooms every time it rains hard. While many teachers here are passionate and patient with children their Director Marcia Is not, not only does the Director of this preschool yell at the children but at the teachers as well... If you want your child in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment go elsewhere! read more

Our son has been going here for over a year now. He began when he was about 20 months old and is now 2.5 years old. He has thrived since we enrolled him! We love the staff here! They are very friendly and their mission in life is to make sure cleverly single Child gets the best education possible while making it fun regardless of age! It is like a big family!!! Marcia(school principal) is such a sweet woman!!! She is always willing to take time out of her busy schedule to talk to the parents; good bad, indifferent. She offers help suggestions and advice when she can and also accepts the same! Very open minded woman. She has been at the university Oaks location for 13-14 years now I believe- she is so very kind to all of her staff and children! Another really neat thing that I tho know awesome is she has a little lending library that you can checkout books on behavioral health and just kids in general. As of her staff(the teachers) they are all amazing!!! Annelise(organic gardeners) is my sons current Teacher; she is so creative with the kiddos and really knows how to wrangle up 2-3 years olds- it's amazing! Our son has come sooo far just on the last 3 months of being in her class. She just has a special knack for it. She always tells me about the coolest sensory bins she does for the kiddos. All the teachers here are just loving and caring! What I love about this school over others is the curriculum, they teach Spanish and American Sign Language along with English ofcourse. They do art projects with them, Tuesday's they have a Music Class, during summer they have "splash day" each week which is really awesome and gives a unique twist on learning as well! A big thing that made us enroll our son here, aside from the great educational experience is that they make their lunches fresh daily and do a family style lunch which is great for the kids! Excellent childcare and preparation for kindergarten. We had a wonderful experience in the kindergarten readiness academy, and my son loved his time there. We recently went back to submit an application for our daughter and my son RAN to his old teacher, gave her a hug, and asked to go outside and play with her class. Please read and see picture evidence. This daycare cares about one thing and one thing only, and that is making money. They could honestly care less about being attentive to your kids and helping their development during such a crucial time in their lives. I am able to honestly say this because we are friends with some of the teachers that have quit or been fired, and we also now go to an AMAZING daycare and it is night and day from Stepping Stone. We look back at the 2+ years are son was there, and it almost makes us want to cry, which is why I am writing this lengthy post. I am hoping it will stop someone else from making the same mistake we did. When we were first looking for daycares, we did our research and saw Stepping Stone was highly rated and even voted "Best of the Brazos" (which is actually stated below in their comments "Voted Best in Child Care since 1998!) t so we naturally assumed it had to be a good daycare. Well now we know that they are only voted "Best of the Brazos," because they bribe all the parents to vote for them. If you vote for them as "Best in the Brazos" and provide proof, they will enter you in a drawing to win a free month of tuition! Considering the tuition can be upwards of $1000, of course parents are going to vote. We refused to vote for them, even if we could get free tuition, and here are just SOME of the reasons why we didn't even consider it: 1. The turnover rate of teachers is ridiculous. I think it was in August/September of 2015 we saw almost every teacher leave and a slew of new teacher's start, which may not be bad on its own, but our son never had the same teacher for more than 4 months. Management views teachers as disposable there, so once again they could care less if it is hard on a young kid to constantly have changing teachers. 2. Some teachers were outright lazy. There were obviously a couple of teachers we loved, but those were far and few between. Stepping Stone just wants bodies to make sure they are legal with teacher to kid ratio's, they could care less how great of a teacher you are. When our son was in the infant room, there was constantly a teacher in there just sitting in the rocking chair doing nothing, even if there were 10 kids in there with some of them crying. That is when we realized something just was not right. 3. There is absolutely no structure. They will portray themselves as having schedules and routines, but there is none. Every morning we would drop off our son in the older kid's room, and there would be kids punching, wrestling, and biting each other. My husband and I would joke that it was a prison yard, and we thought it was normal since we never knew anything else. Now our son goes to a different daycare and no it is not normal AT ALL. All the kids are so happy and well mannered at his new daycare, which is because they have structure, routine AND a higher student to teacher ratio. 4. They charge premium costs for their daycare, and hand out these sheets of why they are upping the tuition by $50 a year comparing them to other daycares. Well they are far from the best. Actually I bet they are close to being the worst. On top of all the other issues is that their University facility itself is very old and run down. The rooms are so small, the carpet is nasty, the playground areas are old with no water areas for the summer (they use a hose and a sprinkler for "water play"), and the school itself will actually flood if it rains a lot. We only know this because we had to rush from work to pick up our son one time when their whole facility was flooding, and only one room was safe. The room sizes themselves are way too small for kids to really even play. Our son was in the 2-3 year old class when we left, and at his new daycare he is in a 2 1/2 to 3 year old room. His new room is at least 4 times the size, has a designated changing/potty area, a designated reading area, designated pretend play area, and a designated group activity area, AND it's for a shorter range group! 5. They use the tadpole app, which I am sure they brag on when trying to get new parents to register, but it is so inaccurate. Some teachers are good about using it, but that wasn't the case most of the time with us. Our son would apparently eat "all" of his food every single day, and somedays he would only have one diaper change all day (or so the app said). The most frustrating part for us would be that they wouldn't put in his nap times. So some days we would come home not even knowing if he had a nap or not and that makes a huge difference in terms of bedtime. I could honestly go on and on of all the things we have seen there, but all I can say is I hope you don't make the same mistake we did. Overall a decent daycare. I did a lot of research before I decided on this one. The director was semi-friendly but firm with the kids, which is needed I think. My daughter (3) really enjoyed her class and loved her teacher. My son (4) is special needs and he had a really hard time there most days. I wish that they had the same teacher every day, but they seem to be short staffed and teachers bounce rooms a lot. Overall a decent quality daycare, but not the best for the price. read more

Our 2 year old attended the University location in College Station for a total of 4 days before we were very fortunate to get her out. She went from being an adventurous, happy toddler, to a stressed, clingy and anxiety filled toddler in the span of those 4 days. The kids in the classroom as well as the classroom itself were always filthy and they were all completely starved for attention. She would come running to me and want to leave immediately every time I came to pick her up---at her previous child care location we had to basically pry her off the teachers to leave as she loved it that much! The headmaster of the school, Marcia, was completely out of touch with our little girl and her struggles. She chalked it all up to "separation anxiety" and "needing to adjust". I have to say that at first I thought they were right, but then my maternal instinct kicked in and I knew my daughter was definitely in a toxic environment. I feel so guilty for putting her through the horrible 4 days that she had with them. At her current childcare facility, St. Joseph's Eagles Nest, she was comfortable from the first day and is happy to get dropped off and always excited to go to school. THAT is the child that I know! Furthermore, Stepping Stone School (Austin, TX) sent us a reimbursement check for her supply fee since we were only there for 4 days. I cashed it but then 3 days later we got charged a fee and the check bounced, because it had an error of "unable to locate". My blood just boils and the ineptitude of the place. I did receive a call back from Lisa Kretzer in the main office in Austin who was very courteous and wanted to hear about my experiences with the school. They will be reimbursing us for our troubles and they offered to get our daughter into the other location. However, I would never want my daughter to go to any of the Stepping Stone Schools based on the experience we had. It was a nice customer service gesture though. I cannot say enough bad things about this childcare business. Don't take your children there. They deserve much much better than what they can provide. It is absolutely shocking to me that they were voted Best Childcare in Brazos County. read more

This school is the best place to take your kids! The teachers are awesome and always so enthusiastic about their jobs. The kids learn so much, even the super young ones are engaging in activities and expanding their minds. The teachers are so well connected with the kids as well! Ms. Marcia, the principal, is awesome she always checks in with the kids and parents to talk about their day! She always has a moment to talk no matter what. And Ms. Nikki, Ms. Kim and Ms. Jessica show real love for their kids! They are always excited to see the kiddos and sad to see them go! BRING YOUR KIDS HERE! You will not regret it. When my son was born and I chose to continue to work full time, I was very anxious and worried about sending him to daycare. I researched every possible daycare and prayed that God would guide me to the one that would be the best for our son and family. My son has been at Stepping Stones School since he was 3 months old - he is almost three now. This morning as we walked in the building and one of his teachers saw him from the other end of the hall and called out to him by name with a smile on her face, I saw the biggest grin come across his face as he went to her. He turned to me and gave me a huge hug and then left to spend the day with people who I know love on him, teach him and want him to be the best he can be. I am forever grateful for the women at his daycare - I'm grateful for their passion and love for teaching and molding kids.
