Sterling Insurance is the best! The claims adjuster was wonderful, and they are efficient and reliable!

WORST company EVER we had a house fire and they keep messing with the amount they want to pay put to the point we got a lawyer because they were trying to pay crap money!!! Don't deal with this company they are scamming people keeping money when you pay for a policy for a reason. I understand they have to depreciate but paying someone $108,000 when they had a $350,000 policy I think not see you in court !!!!​ read more

A tree fell on to our house in October and thanks to this scum bag company we are still living in a hotel. We hired the top rated roofers, top rated engineers and the insurance will not be cover the roof. THOUSANDS of $$$ has been shelled out of our own pocket and they fight us at every turn. DO NOT EVER give this company a dime. They are a complete nightmare and have done nothing but cause a hardship on my family. This has been a nightmare. Thanks for NOTHING!!!! read more

I received a homeowners policy from my broker earlier this year. He assured me it was a great company with great rates and the usual fantastic things people seem to tell you when they are trying to sell you something. I figured well my broker is trustworthy. I have been with this broker for decades so why not. Initially I made the deposit for the policy then he said to me that I would received monthly statements, as I had asked him how will I be able to make payments moving forward. For three months later, I never received a statement, I had to reach out to my broker to get the information to make payment. I went online to make a payment (today) and noticed that my minimum payment was significantly higher than the month prior and the installment plan that the broker had emailed me the month before. So I called the customer service number, the first rep. was rude and had an attitude. Asking what was it that I wanted, while speaking to her she just kept pausing and then responding with snark like remarks. So I ended the call and called back this time I spoke with Rebecca and her attitude was not any better but she was at least answering me somewhat. Long story cut short after I dealt with the bad customer service my broker reached out to the company and what he had to tell me rubbed me the wrong way. They don't know what to tell me in regards to the missing statements, along with some other things. Definitely not a great company to do business with and by any means they will trick you into giving them your personal financial information so they can bill you as they please. I am a little surprised by the reviews I see below. We had storm damage last year when 50-60 mph winds knocked down one of our trees destroying a brand new fence, and a neighbors tree came down on our property, knocking out two other fences. Claims adjuster was dispatched within a couple of days, claim was processed, and payment made for the removal of the trees, and the fences being replaced within a couple of weeks. Everything was back to normal within 6 weeks. The biggest delay was not of Sterlings doing, but getting the mortgage company to endorse and send back the check. No issues at all with Sterling. This company really is a bad insurance company, i would not recommend them to anybody. We put in a claim for a well pump in may and they just finally told us they were not paying the $1500. We have had this company for 35 yrs and never put a claim in. They deny every claim that comes in. We also had a man get denied for his barn burning and when he was done with them there was a big sign on his burnt barn, do not use or trust sterling insurance they do not pay. We just got a letter saying that when our payment is due in Nov. our payment is going to be $250 more. What kind of company raises your home insurance for not putting in any claims. Not good people. This company is unprofessional and willing to drag out a claim for months. I reported water damage at the end of November and had to settle because Linda Wilday decided to close the claim. To be clear, the company took my money year after year. The problem only came about when I had a claim. Their solution to wet moldy carpet was to leave it there. Sterling felt it was adequate to saturate the carpet with a solution, and deem it mold free. This is not a common practice, and even though the building inspector, the engineer, the plumber, the handy man, and the insurance broker (Liggans Insurance in Rosendale) all agreed the rug should be removed, Sterling refused. The rug is wedged under studs, so perhaps it is free of mold, but for the safety of all, one would expect a reputable company to have it removed. Shame on Sterling and shame on Liggans for not being able to have their company to do the right thing. Liggans tried but in the end, they were unsuccessful as well.
