We absolutely loved the experience of adopting our two girls from Sterling Labs. We picked them up on Wednesday of last week. I especially appreciated the book we received with pictures of their parents and information of their bloodline, with AKC numbers for all members. Also included were recommendations for the care of the puppies. We could tell they really care about the puppies and want the transition to be as smooth as possible. The girls are so spunky and happy. They brought so much joy to our us and our children. I recommend this breeder to anyone looking to add great dogs to their family. read more

As much as I hate leaving this review I feel I have to. I have never had a more sick puppy. Day 1 I questioned his droopy eyes which breeder responded were normal English lab eyes. I've had 2 and they were not like Chewie's. Picked him up Sunday and Friday he started throwing up constantly so I rushed him to ER. He tested positive for Parvo. The vets I spoke to thought it was definitely from breeder as I had not brought him anywhere other than my house and had only had him 5 days. They also thought it strange that breeder gave puppy antibiotics to come home with. Definitely not the norm unless there is something going on. I contacted sterling and they claimed it wasn't from them and were a bit defensive in texts until I let them know that my main concern was to ensure all their dogs were safe. They then offered some sympathy and prayers but never once said to bring him back or offered to help pay for his vet fees which most reputable breeders will do. He also tested positive for giardia. This has been the absolute most difficult experience because we love Chewie so much but I am concerned for his future health, especially after reading the rest of the Yelp reviews. Sterling labs did not show parents onsite and never sent any videos or pictures of my pups litter as other breeders have done. Makes me wonder why all their posts are old videos they just seem to repost on a cycle. Very unfortunate and my dog has now cost me more than I could afford and we have only had him less than 2 months. I thought I had done my research and bought from a good breeder but obviously not the case. We paid over $3k for him and his vet bills have now surpassed that. What was supposed to help mend our broken hearts from putting our 13yo lab down last year has turned into a nightmare. Please do not buy from them. read more

our dog from Sterling is now 6. he was diagnosed with OCD in both hocks/back ankles at 8 months old. we did $6,000 of surgery on both hocks, and he's still impacted with early arthritis and can't really live a full life. he's on daily pain meds for life. we've spent several thousand more on trying join injections. we did everything right with food and delayed neutering. the vet said it was genetic. please save yourself the money and heartache and get a lab at our local shelter. read more

Purchased a puppy from Sterling Labs approx. one year ago. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but we have had several issues with the health of our dog that seem to stem from Sterling Labs' business practices and breeding approach. (1) When we picked up our puppy from Sterling Labs, he was infested with fleas. It took several days/weeks to get this situation resolved. (2) At our first veterinary checkup with our puppy, our vet was shocked by the timing, type, and dosage of the vaccines given to our puppy by Sterling Labs. He had to restart nearly the entire vaccine schedule. (3) Our vet had to give our dog 3-4 rounds of deworming medication as he continued to pass worms for several months after we got him. The vet commented that he must have had "an entire belly full of worms" when we picked him up. (4) At approx. 10 months of age, a large histiocytoma tumor was removed from our dog's foot. (5) At approx. 12 months of age, after noticing tightness in our dog's hind legs when running, an x-ray revealed hip dysplasia in his back left hip. Our veterinarian feels strongly that this is the result of genetic issues. When we alerted Sterling Labs to our dog's diagnosis, they suggested this happened because we neutered our dog before 30 months of age... even though symptoms of hip issues had presented long before our dog's neutering. I'm guessing you will likely see a response to this review from Sterling Labs' owner stating that the issues outlined here are our fault as owners, a normal part of puppyhood, or are based on incorrect analysis by our veterinarian. In general, I'd trust a seasoned veterinarian over the word of a business owner trying to save face. Make your own judgement, but I would not recommend working with this breeder. read more

Our Nikki just turned 3 yesterday and is about to go into his SECOND surgery for his knees/hips. We love him dearly, but to say his health condition have cost us a small fortune is an understatement. When I reached out to Mary Anne, the business owner, she said "she was sorry that I did not understand" what it means to be a dog owner and my dog's health condition stems from neutering him. She claimed that neutering a dog prior to 3 years old assures hip/leg conditions. The veterinarian strongly disagreed with her. She told me she had NEVER heard of my dogs hip condition, but at the same time said she was ABSOLUTELY SURE it was my fault for neutering him. Respectfully, which is it, you don't understand the condition, or you understand it so well, you are comfortable making such a bold statement? She also said he would not develop his "beautiful blocky head," but he indeed has and is very much fitting the English Lab look. I reached out to the owner twice since bringing the dog home and both times it was clear she was not interested in helping us in any way, just pointing fingers and passively insulting us. I'm glad most people like her business and the dogs they receive. I did not have that experience and am writing this to give potential owners a different perspective. The two stars are because we do love our dog, but that has nothing to do with Sterling Labs. We have put a lot of time, effort, and dedication into being dog owners, as everyone who gets a puppy should. read more

It's a big deal dog ownership, a commitment for serveral years. We just picked up our English Labrador (from Finn and Ava litter Dec20). He is a beautiful dog with a block head and has a wonderful temperament. He took to his crate the first night and picks up on potty training so quickly. Mary Anne is wonderful and very professional, providing you with pictures weekly after 6 weeks. Ron is great too, giving you detailed instructions at hand off on vaccination requirements and feeding/care. The hand-off process and quality dog you will be getting is well worth the price. We picked up our pup in February 2023. She is beautiful and has a great temperament. We took her to the vets soon after bringing her home for her puppy check up and she tested positive for Giardia, vaginitis, double ear infections, and a hernia. She was only 9 weeks old! I went to a "professional breeder" for a healthy dog and have been very disappointed. After multiple rounds of medications, excessive cleaning, probiotics, bland diet puppy food, and 4 + tests for Giardia, my vet has told me there is nothing else they can do for her. The amount of money we have spent to try to help her has been crazy! I am heart broken! read more

We purchased a Red Fox Labrador in July 2016, and we couldn't be happier! Our Rylee is the sweetest dog we could have asked for. She has the greatest disposition, and such a wonderful personality. I wasn't terribly impressed with the proprietor but couldn't be happier with our pup! Mary didn't have a clue what was going on having first offered us the choice of the two males in the litter then saying that we didn't, then it turns out she had told us the wrong stud which we only found out when showing up to pick up our pup. That would have been awful but the correct stud was the male that we had originally wanted our pup from in the first place so..... bank error in our favor? Lol. You can tell it's a business for her- we asked how many dogs they had on site and all she would say was "oh it varies!" Completely avoiding a real answer. Had another litter being picked up that day too so pretty sure she's running a considerable amount of pups but calling it a puppy mill probably isn't fair either. These items aside she was polite, walked us through what we needed to know and was otherwise totally helpful and responsive throughout the process. We literally could not be happier with our pup and at the end of the day that is what really matters! read more

For several months were trying to adopt a labrador from the shelters. We had a hard time finding the right dog for us and the application process for adoption was cumbersome. Labs are hard to find and when we tried to adopt, the shelters were a bit discriminatory and selective. For those reasons, we got our cute lab Charlie from Sterling Labrador. Mary Anne and her family own this beautiful farm in Yuba City, CA. Upon arrival, she introduced us to her family and her amazing property. We sat down and had few conversations about puppy care. We weren't planning on getting a puppy that day but when we knew how professional and caring Mary Anne and her family about their labradors, we decided to take Charlie home. We were totally not prepared but he sat in the car for 2.5 hours very quietly and patiently, no pee or poo accidents. He came from a good place. I would recommend this place. Mary Anne and her husband were very knowledgeable about their labradors. Now Charlie is doing well, he's still a puppy. But he is in a good home, with good vet, and he goes to puppy daycare when we are working. He is almost potty train and it only took a week. He has a great temperament and very playful. I discovered Sterling Labradors using PuppyFind.com and purchased a yellow labrador puppy from them last month. I was disappointed to find nobody had reviewed them before on Yelp, as it is a bit scary spending $1400 on a puppy when you are basing your purchase solely on testimonials on the breeder's website, but we took a leap of faith and moved forward... What an amazing puppy! Great temperament, GORGEOUS and wants to please us! Can't ask for a better puppy and our vet checkup was great! The Sterling property looked great. They are located in a rural area outside of Yuba City. They had you step in a shallow pan of bleach water immediately after parking in order to avoid parvo virus transfer (this was a huge +++ for me, as I had a puppy die of parvovirus when I was a kid). They took their time to explain everything to me as it had been 13 years since I had owned a puppy. They microchipped him prior to me arriving and had me register his chip before I left, and provided a blanket that they had rubbed on his littermates (for the scent) in order to help aid his inevitable separation anxiety in the coming days. I was a bit disappointed with the customer service, so I deduct one star. With our previous breeder (13 years ago) she would send me weekly pictures and/or videos of our puppy leading up to him being 8 weeks old, so I figured this was standard practice. Unfortunately, Mary Anne didn't always have time to send me pictures. (To her credit, it was the end of the school year and they have school-aged children, so I get it... but when you're spending this much money and you're as excited as my kids were, it bummed us out.) I was also a bit frustrated that the puppy packet of information only included information and pedigree for the father. They said that they were waiting for the pedigree certificate from AKC on the mother and would forward it upon receipt. I emailed twice in the last month politely asking for it since the mother is not featured on their website, and she avoided the question, instead addressing the registration of my puppy with AKC. Don't get me wrong - the mother is registered and we successfully registered my puppy as purebred, but when I asked the second time for the mother's pedigree cert, she said I should request it from American Kennel Club. Um, NO, I am your client and YOU, the BREEDER, will send me the pedigree. I finally sent a frustrated email to them yesterday and received an email back with an attachment with the requested info within a few hours, but the email did not include any text (no "sorry for the delay" or "here you go!") It was just an attachment. Honestly, that frustrated me further, but whatever. We have our precious baby and we have info on both parents now! (And, shame on me for not insisting on the mother's info prior to purchase.) Other than that, we are incredibly happy with our baby and will recommend Sterling Labradors to our friends! read more

We purchased our wonderful "Redford" from Sterling Labs and we couldn't be happier!! We live in Washington so we couldn't meet the litter or the parents before making a decision to purchase but we have a family member who has a 1 1/2 year old from the same bloodline as Redford's Dad. We were able to FaceTime to meet the two little boys that were available and we fell in love with our little guy on the spot. They flew him to us and Mary Anne explained the process thoroughly. He arrived safe and happy. He has such a great temper, loves to please us and he is so smart. He was potty trained the first day. He followed the lead if our 10 year old French Bulldog. His initial vet check went great. It's scary to make such a big decision without meeting your puppy in person but we are so happy we made the decision to purchase from Sterling Labs. read more

This is not a reputable breeder, this is a PUPPY MILL. We had a client that adopted a retired dog that supposedly only had a couple of litters. The vet examined her and was astounded. First the vet stated that there was no way this poor dog only had 2 litters. This poor dog was so neglected and obviously abused. She was not only afraid of sudden movements and afraid to move without permission, but she was extremely extremely obese, severe brown ceruminous debris and dirt in her ears, inflamed ears, severe periodontal disease, mastitis, and worse yet, cancer in her mammory glands. Sterling played it all off like they didn't know what she was talking about and/or it must be new condition, vet says no way. Fortunately, the rescuer kept her and had the ability to get her the proper medical treatment, diet, and most importantly the love and care this pup deserves. This place needs to be reported to Animal Control and AKC NOW. read more

We purchased a beautiful yellow lab girl from this breeder for 1800.00 on 4/16/18. She came home with 5 days meds from the beeeder for "common puppy diarrhea". At our puppy's first vet well check appt. her stool tested positive for giardia. We struggled for over 2 months, different meds, different diets, to get this under control. In the middle of it all,she developed "puppy warts" aka papilloma virus. The incubation period tells us that the puppy was exposed 60 days before the warts first appear. We didn't even have her at that point. It is the opinion of 2 vets and one specialist that our puppy had these ailments before we brought her home. We tried homeopathic remedies to get rid of warts, anitbiotis, and now a a second round of laser removal. Still not resolved, and vet bills are way over purchase price at this point. I did contact the breeder, her response is basically " thanks for giving me an update". We don't want, or expect anything from her, just want to give a heads up to those who may be considering purchasing a puppy from this breeder. Maybe the telling of our experience may help others in making a decision. We are fortunate enough to be able to spend the money to get this little girl well again, but I worry for the owners of the rest of her litter mates, who are most likely dealing with the same problems. read more

Picked up my puppy Buster and couldn,t be happier. They breed English labs and place a priority on breeding family dogs with gentle temperment. Mary Anne always kept in touch with me and sent pictures. Very nice people and clean grounds. Was able to see and touch the sire and bitch and handle the puppies.
