But for the last three visits, I was taken into a room 15-20 minutes late with no explanation. My appointment should take no more than 15-20 minutes. If I had not left 45 minutes later on my own, I don't know how long I would have sat in that room waiting for the PA. Today I had a 9:15 AM appointment. I waited 20 minutes after my appointment time to be put in a room finally at 9:35 AM, . Once in the room, I waited an additional 15 minutes for the doctor to come in. When Dr. Kaas came in, and she explained she was held up for personal reasons. I then waited for the PA to come in to finish the visit and she did not show up at all. I waited another 20 minutes and I decided to leave. I am 67 years old and have NEVER left a doctor's office in my life. I told the front desk why I left. Five minutes after leaving, I received a phone call from the PA who told me they were short staffed. She invited me to come in today at my convenience to complete the treatment, but I could not. I will not be returning to this practice. This all could have been avoided by a kind explanation at any point in time while I was in the office.

I was seen by Dr. Jay Ryan at this practice back starting in 2025. I went to him for diagnosed foot…read morepain, and he constantly said multiple issues existed. He kept pushing for injections and surgeries. These injections were costly and did not work, and even after understanding that, he kept emphasizing the injections. Finally after refusing the injections multiple times, he suggested multiple surgeries. Dr. Ryan performed one surgery on July 2025, and one again on January 2026. Every time I was seen for debilitating foot pain, he suggested surgery. After each surgery completed, my foot pain got worse and now I can't walk. Dr. Ryan also provided an inaccurate estimate of how long my recovery would be, he did a very intense surgery where a portion of my heel was removed, metal hardware was taken out, and he said I would be able to walk in 2 weeks. Several months later, even after physical therapy, I am unable to walk. I don't think I will ever be able to walk again. After one of my surgeries I was scheduled for a post op with Dr. Ryan, and upon arriving, I was told I could not be seen by him. Dr. Kaas ended up seeing me, and she did not provide a thorough exam of my incisions. She stood on one side of the room where she could not examine my entire foot, and I had multiple stitches on all sides of my feet. Dr. Kaas glanced at me and told me I looked fine. She then denied me any pain medications even though I was told to ask, and I needed them. The front office also is not communicative, and unhelpful. I've had to ask them multiple times to send in pain medication that I needed URGENTLY after my surgery, and they waited days to do so even after they told me they would send it same day. They also refused to prescribe me pain medication, they said a Dr. had to sign off on it but still made me wait - even though Dr. Ryan said he'd send it same day. I feel as though my pain levels were completely disregarded and misdiagnosed at this practice. The front office is also not clear on how the billing works, they never communicated that there would be more than one bill for one surgery, and they also charge a hefty credit card surcharge/processing fee, which I feel is already unfair, and not done at any other practice. Also, for being a medical office that specializes in foot and ankle care, their building is NOT accessible, at all. There are multiple stairs and a steep incline going into the building, no automatic doors at the office. It was extremely hard trying to maneuver an office being disabled and using mobility aids that I brought like a wheelchair, a scooter, a walker, crutches, and a cane. I don't think I will ever be able to walk again after being seen by both Dr. Ryan and Dr. Kaas. Please avoid this office at all costs.

If you understand that your doctor hasn't read the notes on why you're there, or she forgets to give you critical information regarding surgery and post-surgical care, go elsewhere. I have been a patient of Dr Kaas's for almost 15 years. In those years I have always received the very best of care, that is, until the last 2 years. Dr Kaas did total foot reconstruction surgery on my left foot 8 months ago. All I was told was,"it'll be hard for you". That was it. Post-surgery I learned just how hard it was. Had I been given a list of medical supplies to purchase in advance or told I could rent a wheelchair from Dr. Kaas' office, or that I would need physical therapy after my surgery, the quality of my recovery would have been substantially improved. The pain has never diminished, and walking is just as painful as it had been before surgery. I made 3 appointments to see Dr Kaas for the pain in my toes, the ball of my foot, and the arch of my foot. I can't walk without pain. With each visit, I waited for over an hour to see her. Unfortunately, the time I waited was exponentially longer than the time I received in actual treatment. The pain in my foot has been migrating up my ankle and leg, causing burning and numbing. My toes are immobile, and it affects my balance. When Dr Kaas inserted the needle into my toes she said it sounded like she was sticking the needle into a piece of celery (not good). The other shot was for a neuroma (nerve pain) on the underside of my foot. Belatedly, Dr Kaas told I should have gone to physical therapy. That was one of the things I was never told, and it wasn't in my records. I was told to go home and do the PT myself. One month later, the pain is worse, and it's climbing up my leg. Worried about the prognosis for my feet (the right one needs surgery too), I made an appointment to see an ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON. I was relieved when I was scheduled within a week. My biggest problem was trying to get my surgical records sent to the new doctor. I sent emails and called Dr Kaas's office requesting my records be sent, only 4 pages were sent. When my Dr's office called for my records, nothing additional was sent. Finally, the doctor's office asked me to call Dr Kaas to request the rest of the records. To say that Tanya, the business manager, was rude is an understatement. I didn't even get a chance to explain the urgency of my request before she launched into a very aggressive lecture mode about "office protocol" ....and that I shouldn't expect to have my records sent ASAP. When medical support staff are unable or unwilling to listen and treat patients with respect, there's a problem. When Tanya was done with her diatribe, and I was allowed to talk, she had quick retorts for everything I tried to say. I get it, rules are rules, but when it comes to a patient's health and welfare, don't take it personally. Listen and see how you can help them. Don't tell them, "when you come back...." NOPE! I won't be back!

Only it wasn't quite that simple. I was experiencing a symphony of pain with every step. It was not deliberate, but I did not know how to fully "translate" or communicate what I was experiencing. Dr. Niktash was patient and was able to unravel the mysteries over our visits. It wasn't just the injury; it was inflammation, nerve, a lifetime of problems due to my flat foot, and I waited months after the injury. It's rare to find a doctor that makes me feel "heard". I'm so grateful! It's a year later and I just completed a 30 mile weeklong walking challenge. It took me a while to find Dr. Niktash. Luckily, if you're reading this, you've found her too!

She makes you feel like your visiting family when you are here. She thoroughly explains everything and you are involved in the process every stop of the way. Both me and my son are patients and both have had minor, in-office procedures done and I can tell you that he level of care here is exceptional! The office is inviting and is beautifully decorated; there is also cute, whimsy foot art throughout. The entire office staff is very warm and friendly! Both of my feet hurt - turns out I have a mild bunion issue. I am flat-footed and lack arch support, it seems to be a hereditary trait in my family - my Dad has the same problem. Dr. Olkin was the Doctor I had an appointment with. They looked over my feet, X-Rayed them, and had me come back. They showed me the X-Rays and showed me the skeletal structure alignment of my feet and how they were off - being caused by my flat-footedness. He was very careful to let me know that they wanted to take a conservative approach and try other avenues of treatment before resorting to surgery. I'm all for that - as long as there is a reasonable chance of success. So, I went in to have molds made of my feet for Orthotic inserts for my shoes. A bit pricey - I had not paid my deductible for the year - after doing so - my health insurance covered the remainder. It's to early to tell if this is going to take care of my problem. It requires that I be diligent and disciplined - that is to say remember to use them every day. It's a pain because you have to move them from shoe to shoe.

For many reasons which I'll list…read morehere: 1) There are multiple names for this practice at this location: 1313 Dolley Madison Blvd Suite 403, McLean, VA 22101. Text messages state "Foot & Ankle Specialist of the Mid-Atlantic", Building sign is "McLean Foot and Ankle Center", and website says "Family foot & Ankle Specialist." Which makes it super confusing to find but easy to cover up when patients have a bad experience and want to leave an honest review. A little digging and I see previous bad reviews on google and the claim is that "Family Foot and Ankle closed in 2021." Well why is the website still up and I can make an online appt with Dr. Mendelsohn and other podiatrist??? At the very least, change your website if this practice has indeed been closed since 2021. They have been gaslighting other patients when they get bad reviews. That's my first red flag. 2) The X-ray machine was old and wobbly. When I went to get an xray for my foot, I had to hold it in place so it would not keep moving. 3) Nobody answers the phone at this practice to be able to ask questions or make appointments. Called about a dozen times over 2 weeks and went to voicemail every time. Had to finally schedule an appt online to pick up my orthotics and didn't have correct option for why I needed to visit. 4) Received multiple text messages and emails nagging me to a pay for a bill for orthotics that had not yet been delivered. The link to pay also did not give an itemized invoice to state what I was paying for. I am not going to pay a bill via an email or text message for things without enough details to ensure it is not a scam nor will I pay for an item that has not been delivered. Poor business practice. 5) It's also ridiculous that I have to pay a $50 Co-pay to come and pick up ordered product when Dr. Mendelsohn barely did anything to ensure fit aside from cutting it to size (which i could have done at home). He did not check to see my stance or my walking gait. He did not check for any areas of pressure or discomfort and make necessary adjustments to ensure the orthotic provides optimal support and comfort and to see if the correction was suitable. I was rushed in and out. He literally spent less than 5mins w/ me and handed me paper with info on orthodics. 6) Had to repeatedly ask for an itemized invoice and receipt to be able to use for HSA account reimbursement and was only given a printed out ledger. Then the office manager argued with me that it should work fine for HSA reimbursement. I know it won't for my HSA reimbursement b/c I've tried multiple times with other ledgers from other practices and have always been denied. Honestly, I spent more time trying to get an invoice than I did getting seen by Dr. Mendelsohn. 7) My feet still hurt and I refuse to waste my time and money going to a practice that does not answer phones, has shady business practices, and the Dr. rushes you in and out. Bottom line: WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES, INSUFFICIENT MEDICAL CARE, I DO NOT TRUST A THING THEY SAY.

Then they charged me $50 for being a "no show" at my original appointment day. I told them I had changed the appointment day and I refused to pay the "no show" fine. I wrote a letter to the doctor explaining why I would not pay the fine. But I still am getting monthly bills for $50 from this practice. When I went for another appointment, the checkin clerk told me I owe $50. Dr. Mendelsohn is a competent doctor. But it appears that this practice has been bought by a hedge fund and is interested only in fees.
