The owners were warm and welcoming, offering great local suggestions and directions for places to explore in the area. Their friendly attitude really set the tone for a relaxing stay. The campground is beautifully maintained, with clean bathrooms and showers (always stocked with plenty of soft toilet paper--definitely not the scratchy kind!) and a well-kept that made everything easy to access. The grounds are mostly flat, so setting up tents should be a breeze. RV campers will also appreciate the easy-access back-in and pull-through sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp hookups. Our RV site had water and electricity, which was perfect for our needs. One of the standout features was the peaceful pond, filled with lily pads, giant bullfrogs, and tadpoles getting ready to join the chorus at night. It added a serene, natural feel to the campground that we really enjoyed. There's also plenty of vegetation and space between sites, giving a sense of privacy and shade throughout the park. Families will love the playgrounds and toys for the kids, while practical amenities like laundry facilities, outdoor sinks with hot water for dishwashing, and Wi-Fi make life easier for longer stays. A small camp store on-site sells firewood, ice, and essential items you may have forgotten. The fire rings and picnic tables at each site made it easy to enjoy meals outdoors. The campground had a great sense of humor, with funny signs scattered throughout--especially near the restrooms--which added a quirky charm. Trash bins were conveniently placed near the entrance, making clean-up quick before heading out for the day. Mystic Campground is pet-friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with several friendly seasonal campers, who made us feel right at home. Check-in time is 3 PM, but you can arrive earlier for just a $10 fee. We heard the campground hosts a fantastic Fourth of July celebration--sadly, we had to leave before the festivities, but it gives us a great reason to come back next year. All in all, we would highly recommend Mystic Campground to anyone passing through central Maine or looking for a quiet and family-friendly place to relax. We look forward to staying again! This is a pretty standard, affordable campground. We stayed here three nights but only spent one…read moresolid day exploring the grounds and activities. We were at a water and electric site right on the pond, which was the best part about the spot. Otherwise, you are packed in like sardines. We did not find anyone at the campground to be very friendly, both neighbors/other patrons and the (limited) staff. The guy at the office on Friday and Monday was pretty surly. The weekend staff did not impress either. Unlike other campgrounds we have stayed at, there was really no one out patrolling the grounds during the day or at night. Which is both good and bad, I guess. Good because you can basically do what you want, and bad because of, well, the exact same thing. Our area of the campground was pretty quiet the days we were there, at night we were definitely the loudest people around...and aside from our 4-year-old sometimes talking loudly/excitedly, we weren't very loud. One thing I did not like about our stay was that the campground seems to encourage and not even attempt to stop kids catching and torturing the pond wildlife, like bullfrogs, tadpoles and fish. While we were there there was a gaggle of obnoxious kids catching and killing things, both accidentally and on purpose. Yet the camp store sells fish nets to help them do those things. As an avid animal lover, I found it disturbing that the campground did nothing to deter people from abusing the wildlife, and even seemed to encourage it by selling kid-size fishing nets. Let's see, what else? The bathrooms were "eh." The floor was constantly wet and muddy. The first 36 hours we were there I assumed it was because it was raining, but the following 36 hours was pretty dry and the floors were still like that for some reason. Showers were free and had hot water, but were pretty cramped. Be prepared for lots of bugs, mosquitoes and ants everywhere. We did not try the pool or the pancake breakfast. And there were no tractor rides to be found, even though it's mentioned on their website. The main attraction here is the price and the location to amenities in Bangor. It is right next to the airport, so planes can be very loud, but that did not bother us much. It was fine for what it was/what we needed but we feel no need to ever go back.

NOT good. Find in this review my opinion of this campground. The facts I assert are supported with…read moredocuments, statements and a copy of the message sent to me by the campground themselves. My 9 year old son and I went there on August 17 to go camping overnight. The owners wife was at the desk and I knew immediately that there was just something wrong when we first walked in. She didn't smile nor was she talkative for some reason. I dont have a mean bone in my body and am always polite to people, especially in front of my son. After getting the site nailed down and paperwork completed, she told me to run my debit card in order to pay the 24.50 for the night. I did so, she quizzically looked at her computer and told me I had to swipe my card again. Now many MANY times in the past, I have been asked to swipe more than once and my first reply is ALWAYS "My card isn't going to be charged twice is it?" I asked the same exact thing with this lady, and she told me no. I was hesitant because she also said "that was strange" when my card didn't take. So I very VERY reluctantly swiped a second time. After another quizzical look on her face, she TOLD me to swipe a third time. No apologies or anything, just a demand. This time I stepped back with my son right beside me and told her "I really don't want to swipe the card again." Now I did NOT raise my voice, but told her that sentence in a firm tone. I have a deep voice, so it may have sounded sterner then what she was used to. I will admit that I was slightly annoyed but who wouldn't be? I did NOT however become angry by any stretch of the imagination nor did I blame her or have an attitude. Immediately when I said that she literally hollered at me in front of my son telling me in effect that it wasn't her fault! and I didn't don't have to stay at the campground if I did not want to....Are you kidding me???? She said it in a fashion that was so very loud, intimidating and insanely off the wall that my son immediately put his hands up and covered his ears and closed his eyes. He was scared of how she acted. I turned to him, told him it was okay and immediately spoke to her in a soft tone letting her know that I was not blaming her and everything would be fine. I could not believe I was the one almost apologizing for HER behavior but I did so to ease my childs fears. I did not want to slide my card a third time. My family was there already waiting on us at the campground and my son was looking forward to seeing his cousins, and had been for a week. So to diffuse the situation, I spoke with her and slid my card a third time so my son would stop being scared. I thought I would handle this AFTER our stay, when he wasnt around. After swiping it a third time, I very politely asked her if it was going to charge my account three times. She said it wouldnt. A couple seconds later she said "Looks like we charged you more than once. I asked her if she was going to make sure they took care to credit me back any overcharges. She said she was doing it as we were speaking. We finished up and here I am over a week later. Just found out from my bank that she did NOT take care of it as promised. After trying to call her multiple times and leaving a message on facebook after a week, she told me her husband was going to look into it. So here we are, my bank told me THEY were going to take care of it. I finally got a message from Paul Bunyan a week later that it was going to take a few days for my refund to be deposited. We will see. A couple hours passed at the campground while we were enjoying family when a couple of my nieces came up to me telling me that the owners wife was telling other customers about me and that she "didnt care if I stayed or left" and that I was an ....expletive....Thats real nice. These are the facts of our visit and if Paul Bunyan wants to dispute these facts, please feel free to post your office video and audio to show everyone what occurred that day. I am sure they have some sort of security camera in the office. So instead of either calling me out, saying I am the one lying or that I was the one who was rude and obnoxious, show the video. I implore you. I want everyone to see just how scared you made my son. So in ending, Paul Bunyan campground will never EVER be visited by my family again and I urge you folks to check your bank accounts if you have ever had to swipe your card more than once here. I cannot ever trust them again. Did they apologize you ask? When I left to go to my van to turn it off because it was taking a long time, that same crazy lady told MY SON.."Sorry it is taking so long". THATS IT!!!! This is unacceptable behavior, especially since they call themselves a family campground. They couldnt even apologize to my son for needlessly and crazily scaring him Shame on you.
