I was told they "work with" my Cigna insurance, which gave the impression my costs would be reasonable. However, this was not clearly explained, and my claim was processed as out-of-network, leaving me with a much higher bill than expected. I paid upfront based on that understanding. Insurance still paid the office, but I was not reimbursed in a way that reflected what I was led to believe, and no further adjustments were made. I came in needing a crown ASAP and trusted I was choosing the right place, but financially, this was the wrong decision. This kind of lack of transparency is exactly why patients avoid care and lose trust in the system--and why burnout in dentistry keeps getting worse. Expensive lesson--would not return.

Later we received a bill from LakeWales Dentistry for hundreds of dollars which the insurance refused to pay. It seems they did some type of x-rays, that we did not authorize or approve, that were not covered by our insurance. We called the office several times to try to straighten this out but each time they said they would look into it and call back, but they never did. This is not the kind of surprise you want from your dentist. Also on that same visit I was not shielded from the x-rays. It's obvious from when you first set foot in the office that they take great pride in their business and patients. The entire place was spotless, all of the employees were extremely nice and helpful. I saw Dr. Veronee after a traumatic fall 2 months ago. Going to the dentist for me is usually traumatic in itself but I was immediately put at ease. The doctor couldn't have been more thorough in his exam and went out of his way to explain everything in detail. He also gave me a few options to consider and made sure I wasn't left with any questions to the visit or future treatments. While my treatment is not over, I feel a lot of relief from my visit knowing that I'm in good hands. I rarely do reviews but when a place stands out like this it's well worth the time to do. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sunshine Dental.
