I needed a root canal and was terrified because my first one, 15 years ago, was pure torture. When…read moremy dentist at the time gave me the Novocain shots, it felt like the needle was going through my cheek and he kept poking the needle several places, each time causing more pain. Then having my jaw kept open by a rubber block made my jaw sore for days. And the drilling and all took a wicked long time. So, I was very trepidatious when my new dentist said it was time for another molar to have a root canal and she referred me to an endodontist. What a great referral. Dr. Opp was calming and explained everything clearly. Yes, the Novocain shot hurt at first, but it was over very quickly and just one poke. I couldn't believe that it was enough of the drug as it seemed to be much less than other times I had Novocain. It was enough until she got to the top of the nerve, but a bit of drug administered inside the tooth (again just a bit of pain) took care of it and the root canal then proceeded with no difficulty. She uses this weird rubber frame to keep the tooth exposed so my jaw was fine afterwards. She told me when to contact my dentist for an appointment for the crown, provided there were no complications. On that, she said they had a 24 hour phone number if I needed help with pain or other issues. Before my appointment, I had to fill out an involved online registration. It asked for medical history and more, so it took several minutes to complete. I have only one complaint. Even though my dentist took x-rays of my molar two days prior and sent them over to Endodontic Associates, they insisted that I needed them again. Plus, they did a full jaw x-ray. It turns out it cost almost $400 and insurance does not cover that. That should have been disclosed up front, not when I looked at the detailed invoice once I got home. I hope I never need another root canal, but if I do, I hope Dr. Opp is still practicing.

Fortunately, he was just as concerned about his leaving his patients in capable hands. When you form a 25 year relationship with your dentist, that's important! Apparently he knew Dr. Bingham Ivery early in her schooling. He recognized a highly talented dentist and brought her in. Ultimately she ended up buying his practice. The transition was slow, giving him an opportunity to introduce her to all of us. Wow, is she incredible. I personally love a dentist who is not overly aggressive. In dentistry, there are a lot of things that can simply be watched instead of drilled immediately . With proper care, sometimes enamel can be restored, etc. Dr. Bingham is amazing. Really amazing! I've had many things done with her in the last couple of years --some big and some small. I've been very impressed with her knowledge, assessment, and discussion of treatment options. This year has been particularly difficult and not only has she been incredible with me, she also referred me to a fantastic endodontist who helped me through a tricky situation. I recently also met Dr. Perry, who is now Dr. Bingham's partner. Super impressed! The hygienists there are amazing. You will definitely form a relationship with them, and they will take fantastic care of you! And you will be warmly greated by the women at the front desk, who also are more than happy to help you with insurance, billing, etc. Choosing a dentist is difficult, but important. You won't go wrong with Dr. Bingham and Dr. Perry!

Without fail, at every visit Dr. Pisciotta, Connie, and his other staff are kind, professional, thorough, and effective. Today, I had to have some rather tricky work done with fillings of cavities deep on the tooth and a crown placement. As Dr. Pisciotta put it, this procedure was a "Black Diamond" ski run for a dentist, not a beginner run! As a health care provider myself, I know that feeling and appreciated his candor. I'm happy to say he and his team nailed it. Post-procedure x-rays confirmed his clinical impression - success! I'm about 2 hours out from the local anesthesia wearing off and have absolutely no pain and only a vague feeling of soreness. Dr. Pisciotta is simply the best and after all these years of benefitting from his great advice and work, I trust him implicitly. That's why I will keep coming back. I just hope he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon!

I have done preventative care and a cavity filling during my visits. I have been very happy with the service. I have a high gag reflex, and their office have been accommodating and patient, giving me numbing liquid to swish and trying x-rays multiple times until the pictures come fine. The doctor and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. After doing a filling, I never thought about that tooth any more, which means a good treatment! I really like their spacious and quiet office too. The previous office I used to go was crowded with patients and it was so hard to reschedule an appointment. I have been pleased with the flexibility of any rescheduling needed and the service. I highly recommend Dr. Afkham's office if you look for convenience and expertise.

So, HE ASSAULTED ME AND THEN CHEATED TO THE POLICE. I visited the clinic for an exam regarding wisdom tooth extraction March 27th. Based on prior communication, I was under the impression that the visit was a preparatory step for the extraction. However, I was informed during the visit that the extraction could not be performed there and was referred elsewhere. A misunderstanding arose from the clinic's initial communication, which I believed to be misleading. Upon addressing this with the front desk, a disagreement ensued. Dr. Afham intervened, and the situation escalated. Dr. Afham forcefully instructed me to leave, resulting in him physically grabbing my arm and pushing me all the way out of the office, causing my phone to fall and further adding to my distress. I immediately contacted the police to report the incident. However, Dr. Afham provided a conflicting account, stating he merely "opened the door" for me, which led to the police being unable to take further action. This experience was not only humiliating but raised serious concerns about the professional conduct at Davis Smile Center. It is particularly disheartening given my history as a loyal patient over the past three years. I am considering filing grievances with relevant professional and regulatory bodies, including the Delta Dental Program, the Dental Board of California, and the Better Business Bureau, to seek redress and ensure such conduct is appropriately addressed. I appreciate any help that could help to resolve this issue satisfactorily. If you are also being treated unfairly by Doctor Jafar Afham, I'd be happy to help too.I can be reached at davis_sc_grievance@proton.me.

I was referred to this office by my regular dentist for periodontal work. Due to limited…read moreavailability, it took about four months to be seen. The procedure was a gum/skin graft on my front teeth. Before the procedure, there were already billing issues. The office attempted to charge more than what my insurance (Delta Dental) indicated would be covered. This resulted in extensive back-and-forth to ensure insurance was applied correctly and billing codes were entered properly. We eventually agreed on a total, and I paid a deposit. On the day of the procedure, I paid the remaining balance we agreed to and signed for. I returned for two follow-up visits to confirm healing and had no further treatment with this office. One full year later, I received a bill claiming I owed $850, with no clear explanation. When I contacted the office, I was told the billing codes had been entered incorrectly and that I now owed the difference. Delta Dental confirmed the office had used the wrong billing codes and advised them to correct the submission so it would be covered. The office refused to fix the coding and instead threatened to send me to collections. After continued disputes, the balance was lowered to $450, though we still did not believe we owed anything. To avoid collections, we set up a payment plan ($50 down and $115 monthly). The balance was paid in full. Despite this, I was later sent to collections "by mistake" and told the office would correct it. Then, I received another bill for $115, which they claimed was due because they had "forgotten to include a payment." This office is disorganized, aggressive with billing, and unwilling to take accountability for their own errors. The constant changes to what was owed, threats of collections, and lack of transparency made this an extremely stressful experience. Proceed with caution. I would not recommend this office.

Not long after my surgery, I told them I was still having issues, was told I just grind my teeth and that's why I was having issues. The original periodontist who did the work never looked at the site after the initial surgery, not even for my post op check 2 weeks later. They also didn't provide me post op instructions and had to call them to provide instructions for me. They're also extremely bad at being on time, would wait 45 mins after my scheduled appointment time & then another 30 in the chair after being placed into the took. During my surgery, the perio would get up to work on other patients while working on me. Now, three years later, I had to get surgery AGAIN because, as it turns out, my distal pocket was still a 9 in that area. I had tried to keep the area clean as best I could but kept getting infections but could not afford another pricey surgery. This place also inflated the cost of the procedure, a surgery that's $1200 elsewhere is $1700 here. Needless to say, I didn't come to this location to fix my botched surgery. I wouldn't trust them to fix the issue.
