I just had a root canal yesterday from Dr. Barak and I have to disagree with other patients I must have caught him on a bad day because he was very rough and abrupt with his treatment. While working on my root canal both he and his assistant kept looking up at the TV to watch the Olympics while drilling my tooth, it made me very uncomfortable not to mention the extra pain I was feeling. This is THE guy to see for a root canal! I just had my first root canal and was so nervous about it, but the staff here was very calming and friendly. I was seated in the chair with a lovely view from the 3rd floor, and TV on for a good distraction. I must say I am VERY impressed with Andrew S. Barak, DMD and the work he did today. I never felt any pain or discomfort, and it was an easier experience than many fillings I've had. It's because this is his specialty, so he can do a root canal like a pro, with ease and no issues. He was very nice and compassionate, always making sure I was alright. The whole thing was over in 40 minutes and I feel fine. I was referred to Dr. Barak by my dentist. I was very nervous and anxious at first, thinking the worst. But it wasn't at all what I expected. It was surprisingly relaxing. The news was on above, in front of me. The light conversation in the room kept me alert, as not to fully doze off. I found the drills and all the tools were satisfyingly soothing. I have had trouble getting in. I need 4 root canals and have been referred to him. My Father was home, dying on hospice and couldn't make an appointment. Because to much time went by I had to go back to get another referral, which I did. Then they changed my appointment a couple of times probably due to Covid. No problem here. Then they gave me an appointment that I was going to but because I wasn't home to get the confirmation phone call or to call them before 4 they cancelled my appointment. I was out getting things taken care of because I was not going to feel well after 4 root canals. I got home, got the message and called telling the answer machine that I was ready, please call and let me know when to come in. No call. So I got ahold of them and they are refusing to see me. I was angry before, now I'm livid! Hence the bad review! read more

Excellent Customer Service. Melanie was very helpful in getting me seen for urgent root canal appointment I explained how I am petrified of going to dentist and was extremely nervous about the root canal that I desperately needed. I usually seek services where they offer nitrous (laughing gas)or other forms of sedation ( that's how bad I am with my nerves) and because of my history of not being able to get numb with local anesthetics. Based on the Yelp reviews I decided to give this endodontis a try and I'm glad I did! Dr. Barak and his assistant were in sync and the whole process went smoothly. I have bad anxiety and am very squeamish when my mouth is being worked on. They made sure I was comfortable and explained process as it went on...root canal was done fast too...I totally reccomend! read more

First time root canal.. similar to Tracy T.'s and JD H.'s experiences.. His assistant was kind and helpful. He was 30 minutes late. He didn't even get the root canal done because he felt it needed to be confirmed by my dentist that it's salvageable. I was referred to him by my dentist 2 weeks prior after getting work done from my dentist. I agreed to a cleaning of that tooth. He did not explain how the process would go or what tools he would be using or the discomforts and pains I might feel. He used all of the same tools for the cleaning he would have used for the root canal, I suppose, which I was not expecting for a cleaning. His assistant wasn't present for the first part, which was the injection of numbing medicine with needles, without any warning. Very sudden and intrusive. When I was thought to be fully numb, he put a contraption in my mouth without real warning. It was a clamp that startled me and cut into my gums on the inside. I tried expressing this pain and where it was with a numb mouth full of foreign tools. He injected more numbing and said there was not enough tooth to clamp down comfortably/ correctly (can't recall the exact words, I was in a bit of shock, crying). Used a drill and other cleaning tools, roughly. My main dentist I just saw 2 weeks prior also did a cleaning, but was not rough like this. His assistant was trying to comfort me the best she could.. A few minutes into the rough cleaning with the clamp and everything, they started talking to each other about his niece and sports and her being physically fit and losing her "baby fat". He even looked away a few times while he had a dull in my mouth, which was scary. When she used a suction tool I started feeling pain and let her know, she pulled away and he passive aggressively said to her something about how he didn't want her to do that? They finished, filled my tooth with temporary filler, and reminded me that I needed to go back to my main dentist for another examination to determine if this tooth is salvageable or just needed to be extracted.. I was then charged $95 out of pocket, which they said may or may not be covered by my insurance. If it is, they'll reimburse me. I was told before coming to the appointment that the cost with co-pay coverage from my insurance would be $65. But of course, that was for a root canal, which I didn't actually get. I took a day off from work, for this?.... I don't ever want to go back to him. I hope he makes a habit of explaining each step he does in his processes. It would probably help in some way. And he really should NOT get distracted like a truck driver eating a taco on the highway. He may be a master at his craft, but that's no excuse for complacency. read more

Dr. Barak is a very kind man who is in demand; however, he focuses on you and compassionately listens to your every word. He does not guide you down a path; he gathers the information and studies it to determine the underlying cause for your symptoms. I was in very much pain, and he did not fret as I expressed myself. He kept in constant contact with me, and he always accepted my calls (or got back with me very quickly). He is a very experienced ENT, and he will give you the best care. OMG I'm still horrified from my experience! To begin, I was referred by my dentist for a root canal, trying to salvage a 2nd molar which I stated needed to be extracted. I have extreme anxiety with dentists, so I had already taken 3 Ativans. Everything was going ok until the dentist attempted to put some sort of clamp on the tooth. All bad!!! He clamped on my gums which I later found out cut down to the bone! On top of that, he referred me back to my dentist stating he was unable to complete the root canal because the tooth had decayed past the bone...extraction like I stated before. So instead, he packed the tooth with this hard temporary stuff which was scratchy, not smooth at all. My entire right jaw was completely inflamed. After the numbing went down, I couldn't eat anything solid. The plan was set to extract the tooth two days later. Would I come back here for a possible root canal? Heck no!!! I couldn't believe how rough he handled me while trying to get the clamp on!!?? The medical asst even helped me calm down as I cried hysterically. Never again :( read more

There's nothing enjoyable about a root canal. The best you can hope for is that the procedure is performed efficiently and painlessly. That's exactly what I got from Dr. Barak. Everyone was courteous and friendly, I even got started early because of a cancellation. Highly recommend. Now the whiny part. Why doesn't my health insurance cover dental work? If I break an arm it would be treated and I'd pay very little out of pocket. My teeth are part of me, just like my arm, and probably even more important to my overall health than a limb. Why do I have a second policy for teeth that covers less and costs more out of pocket than my "health" insurance? Whining over. I was terrified to get my root canal as I have never had any major dental work done. I literally almost said forget it and left I was so full of fear. I believe it was his associate Dr. Cary Syamken who did the work. It was completely painless and every second of the way he explained what he was doing to put me at ease. There is nothing more terrifying that dentist who just sticks scary tools in your mouth at random and you never know what is coming next. Dr. Barak and his entire office were amazing. I was referred to his office from Land Park Modern Dentistry for a Root Canal. I had previously had one in this tooth, and the crown busted. I had an infection that went into my jaw. After I had the infection drained at Land Park Modern Dentistry and was cleared through my Endocrinologist I was able to get an appointment with their office. My appointment was initially scheduled for 8 AM but their office manager Melanie asked if I could reschedule until 9 AM. We met in the middle and I arrived at 8:30 AM. Melanie walked me through the Patient intake forms. Once I was finished in a matter of minutes I was called back and was set up. Shortly Dr. Barak showed up shortly and introduced himself. He made the process so easy and a great bedside manner. While I am still having some pain the day after I feel better. The office made me feel comfortable and welcome. I have to get two root canals retreated because of infection. I was dreading the experience. He only did one so far and I have to go back in two weeks for the other one. Dr Barak and his team was amazing, they do root canals every day and it shows in their professionalism, speed and skill in their work. If you've never had a root canal before there's a lot of mental preparation that goes into having this procedure and to show up to my appointment and have to wait a half an hour after my scheduled appointment is unacceptable. I understand sometimes doctors run behind and this isn't necessarily a review about the doctors mannerisms or his level of service. This review is strictly about the front desk customer service. I had an appt today at 3:30. When I checked in the girl at the front desk told me the doctor was running A FEW MINUTES behind. Ok. No big deal. After 25+ minutes I'd say that's more than a few mins. If I could give negative stars I definitely would. Not once did the front desk girl acknowledge the fact that I had been waiting more than a few minutes. Nor did she offer any water or anything while I was waiting. She didn't, in my humble opinion exercise any type of customer service by getting a better estimation of how long the doctor was running behind so that I could properly adjust my schedule. I took the day off of work for this appointment and to be treated like it's not a big deal is just really bad service and off putting to say the least. They definitely did their diligence in making sure the insurance was still effective but had no qualms about disregarding the effort I put in to respecting this doctors time. Working in the customer service field as well as the medical field, I would have at least expected the front desk person to be apologetic and considerate of my time by offering me to reschedule or just let me know an expected wait time. She just sat on her behind probably updating her Facebook status. I wasn't impressed with their customer service when I went in for my initial appointment but decided to go through with having them finish the treatment. What a waste of time. As I said, this review isn't about the doctors service or mannerisms. But it sure will reflect on his office as a whole. The front desk person needs to be trained in customer service. She sucks. I ended up cancelling my appointment and scheduling some place else. read more

Worked in Dentistry for over 10 years. I remember Dr. Sharples we would refer patients there all the time. Dr. Cary Syamken was at this same location. I visited Dr. Cary Syamken for a molar root canal and the procedure was quick and painless. They used good technique and both the doctor and the staff were extremely helpful. My appointment was right after lunch. I watched a little tv in the chair the doctor took his time and I appreciate that. Anytime you can afford to visit a Dentist that specializes in Endo you should they may run behind but this is normal. The last thing you want is for your Endodontists to rush your treatment. The only other alternative is to have the tooth pulled. With that I hope I don't need another root canal anytime soon. read more

I was in a lot of pain before coming in due to how infected my tooth was, but he immediately relieved it.
