First of all, Dr Petite retired. As well as Dr Littenberg. Both old timers that needed to retire. They both seemed not involved. I decided last year to become more active with my chronic colitis which I've had for decades. I had chemotherapeutic for the year I needed to see if another in office review and schedule a colonoscopy. Like other reviewers I was only granted a visit with a PA. a salty young women who should not be in healthcare. I was asked basic questions. I left the office with no information about my condition. I mentioned having further testing and a colonoscopy. I was told to take Metamucil and see if any improvements and make another appointment for reevaluation. I think that the practice was being run without the Doctors present. Maybe retired already and hiding the fact. As mentioned by all the other reviewers don't bother with this practice. The staff is rude and uncooperative. There are many more excellent Gastroenterologists in Pasadena. read more

Dr. Steven Petit is my old time physician for almost 40 years. He is an intelligent and knowledgeable doctor at all times. He is compassionate, friendly, respectable and a very good /excellent listener. He hears my pains and sufferings thus, heals my soul like that of Dr. Marcus Welby in TV series in the 70's. He has done colonoscopy and endoscopy many times that save my life of finding the best ways to help me. I can call him and he will be there to help me. During this hard period of pandemic, I can still reach him via telephone and portal communication for he cares about my well-being and that set him to be the Best of Humanity and he is ! I have never met, nor have I been a patient of Dr. Steven Petit M.D. However, I feel obligated to make this review. Over two months ago I needed services and care of a Gastroenterologist in an urgent matter. Dr. Petit was highly recommended by a former patient's family, and a non-related Dr. ... Here are my major areas of concern, and disappointments with his practice: 1- Reaching his office by phone is a task by itself. Wait times (on hold) exceeds 15 minutes till someone answers the phone, that is if the call is not disconnected. Two out of four calls were dropped. 2- Even on urgent care matters, the good doctor cannot see patients for over THREE & HALF MONTHS. However, a telephonic visit (Televisit!!!) can be arranged within TWO MONTHS (Month & 21 days to be exact) When I need a doctor, especially in an urgent care matter, I need to be taken care of within a reasonable time, and not three and half months later, or even month and half later with a phone call (Costing several hundred dollars) I did make an appointment at the time, however, since my medical condition was remedied by other means and avenues, today I cancelled my appointment with the good Dr. ... If giving a zero was an option I would give that. I went to Dr Petit with a slew of issues. He claimed that I had IBS and that I might have "an infection that less than 10% of the world gets". He did some basic blood work. I asked if he could run my Heavy Metals (as I suspected I was suffering from Mercury poisoning). He laughed in my face and said "I have never tested for that in my career. Why would I do that now". Being sick and not able to properly advocate for myself, I did not put pressure to get the tests run. He told me I first needed to get a colonoscopy and endoscopy and then maybe, depending on the results, we would do a breath test for Sibo. I was told the colonoscopy and endoscopy were fully covered by my insurance and that I would just need to pay a co-pay. Long story short, I ended up having Mercury Poisoning) and Sibo. It took me 6 months to get the sibo test. I had call his office COUNTLESS times and physically go there to get someone to help me. Every phone call to the office was a min of an hour wait. Sometimes, they wouldn't even call back. Ironically, the person who helped me the most was from the the lab company who issued the test. They finally got the doctors office to submit all paperwork needed for the test. My first round of antibiotics for Sibo did not fully help. I pressed to get more testing done (high mold levels are very common with the type of Sibo I have). Again, he laughed at me and again said " "I have never tested for that in my career. Why would I do that now". He told me if I could find out where I could get the test issued he would order it. He also told me that Sibo is very hard to cure and that I should "get used to the idea of living with this for the rest of my life". I think Dr Petit is a very smart man, but his training needs to be updated. He needs to realize that not every individual is a text book case and that there are alternative methods of care. He is very kind, thoughtful and informed. He takes all the time necessary to properly evaluate your case. So you might wait a bit, but it will be worth it when you're called. He will not suggest any unnecessary testing, at least not in my case. Overall, he's very caring and humanitarian minded. read more

I cannot rate my visit because I CANNOT get through when I call! They don't pick up their phones or they must have one person answering an astronomical amount of calls. I called twice...the first time I was on hold for 15 minutes...the second time I was on hold for 30 minutes. This is unacceptable. read more

I think Dr. Petit is burned out and should retire. His sarcastic little quips might have been funny when he was younger but now he's like a grumpy old man. I've been struggling with abdominal pain since October 2018. At that time I went to the ER at Huntington. The ER doc said I had "pockets" in my colon but she would not explain further and told me to see a Gastroenterologist. I told Dr. Petit and he scoffed! SCOFFED. Then he told me if I still had the pain at the beginning of the new year to come back. This is October mind you. I suffered until Feb or March of the next year when he did a colonoscopy. In the meantime I looked up "pockets in your colon" and found out it's called diverticulosis/diverticulitis. I learned all about it on Google. Then after the colonoscopy, guess what the diagnosis was? Diverticulosis. What a jerk. Could not be bothered to tell me ANYTHING about it. I was still having pain in 2021 and I had to badger him to test me. He did a scan and said there was nothing there. Case closed. I begged him because I was in so much pain to help me. He did one more test for my liver and he really was done then. As long as he doesn't see anything on a test he's done with you. I truly believe he thinks I'm a hypochondriac. I'm still having pain and trying another doctor. Ugh! He used to be a pretty good doctor but he has really let me down. I guess he doesn't think I'm worth it. That's the sad part as I had been his patient for years. read more

My first colonoscopy with Dr. Petit was fine; my second was horrible. The assistant doctor the 2nd time was extremely unprofessional and rushed, they didn't even wait for the nurse to administer the medication/sedation before they began the procedure which was extremely painful. The nurse was scrambling to uncap the needle while they were shoving the scope inside me. This is not the most dignified of medical procedures, so discretion and consideration is a must, especially if the patient is female and the assistant is male. He whipped the covers off of me in a sudden manner, completely exposing me, without telling me first and it was extremely unnecessary when all he needed to do was put a pad underneath me. The first time I had this done, the female assistant was very considerate, talking me through it and she never left me exposed at all. The lack of professionalism made this second colonoscopy one of the worst medical procedures I've ever had; this is a very vulnerable position to be in, so you shouldn't be made to feel more so - and certainly not made to feel violated. Dr. Petit seemed oblivious to his assistant's actions and he did not seem to care that I was in pain and that I had not been medicated yet. I felt like I was being rushed through; the endoscopy center is like a factory and I was just a product. The recovery nurse was alarmed that my blood pressure was so low, that's because the medication wasn't fully administered until near the end of the procedure. I already gave a more thorough review for the Endoscopy Center. Suffice to say I will never be going here again and I will definitely use a different doctor for this procedure. I would recommend that you ask female patients if they would prefer that the assistant doctor be female or at least trained to be more considerate of patients. ALSO: I was told that I would receive a follow up call on the Monday following the procedure. No one called me. I wrote emails to air my complaints. No one responded. We have to sign something before the procedure that states that patient privacy is always respected and prioritized. Ha. What a joke. read more

I have had such a great experience with Dr. Petit so far. While the front desk is crazy and this is a busy office, Dr. Petit has taken his time with me, answered lots of my questions, made several calls to me to follow-up on things, and even called me with my ultrasound results the same day as it was done. He is very friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. I don't write many reviews like this for doctors. Have really liked Dr Petit ever since I met him in Huntington Hospital in 2014 when I had an acute pancreatitis. He was calm and funny and helped get me well. Today I called and left him a message about something that was going on with me. He called back by day's end, had already called in a prescription for me, and gave me a plan of attack so I wasn't waiting all weekend in misery. Definitely, thumbs up. read more

I had to be closely monitored while I was pregnant and it was crucial for them to inform me whether or not I needed to get back on medication three months before delivery. This was to ensure baby would be unaffected by my illness. After going in for my office visit and getting my blood work done, there was absolutely no follow up. After two weeks passed, I had to call numerous occasions to have the records Dept look into my results from labcorp. I had to convince them numerous times that something was wrong and it shouldn't take this long for me to wait for the results. This process took several days. Sure enough, Labcorp made some kind of mistake and I had to go in and get my blood redrawn. This information was something I could not obtain on my own as a patient. It HAD to be done through Dr Petit's office so I was incredibly upset how much I had to get involved and how much convincing I had to do to get Dr petit's office to resolve this. labcorp and Dr Petit failed me, I was still waiting for my results, and I only had two months left. I made my own decision to retake the meds because it seemed no one was following my health. After another few days, Dr Petit sent me a letter that my lab results are not good and that I needed to retake the meds. By this time I only had about two months before my delivery date when i really needed about three months time for the baby to be safe. I was considered a high-risked pregnancy and they needed to closely monitor me. I've been with Dr petit for several year and I trusted him with not only my own well-being but the well-being of my newborn baby. What I experienced was an unfortunate situation and it was irresponsible for a doctor to allow this to happen to his patient. read more

The procedure was the most painful I've ever had and I had three prior to this one. He didn't give me enough medication after I asked him to make certain I had enough. I awoke with terrible painful colon spasms during the procedure begging for more medication which was slow in coming. If you want to be in torture by this doctor, then by all means, he's the one for you. Staff and front end folks were kind and professional. I will never see this doctor again. If zero stars were possible that would be my rating. read more

I thought Dr Petit was excellent. My colonoscopy went very smoothly. I had zero pain. I asked to have minor sedation and was awake during the procedure. He explained the procedure while it was occurring-I found it to be fascinating. I went home and three hours later I attended a play. read more
