I wish zero was an option for this shop. Took my son's car there as it needed a new engine and the shop that normally handles all of my family's cars, Meineke South Toms River, does not do that type of work. They got an engine from a junk yard it took about 30 days from the time they picked it up to complete the work. The cost was a little over $3,200. Two months later the car was running very rough and failed inspection. Brought the car back as the failed inspection items were all engine related. I called everyday for a week trying to get an answer. I finally get a response from Joe who advises I need new plugs and likely new coils. I ask how can the plugs go bad after 60 day!? He advised that they never changed the plugs when they changed the engine. When asked why, he said that is what they were told. When asked who told them, he did not have an answer. He advised that they will write-up an estimate and get right back to me. Another week of calling every day, as my son is Ubering back and forth to work, Joe tells me....."we are very busy and will get to it when we can". I continue calling and finally get Steve on the phone. He advised that repairs will cost $680. I again asked if it is standard practice to buy an engine from a junk yard and put it in a car without replacing the plugs his response is "you can bring your car somewhere else to get it repaired" and then charges me $120 for estimate! Brought the car back to Meineke and repairs were completed that day. They advise the engine had the original plugs and that they should have been changed when the engine was replaced. Their repairs including a coil, totaled $390 including tax. So if you pull into Steve's Roadside Assistance and Auto Repair on Main Street in Toms River and are immediately concerned about the type of service you will receive because it looks like a junk yard, you should be. They are not only rude and unprofessional, they are incompetent mechanics that do not guarantee any of their work. To add insult to injury, they charge almost twice as much as the shop down the street. I cannot believe a company like Triple A is affiliated with this shop. Stay away from this place. read more

Steve's Roadside Assistance managed to turn a simple flat tire into an almost hundred-dollar bill out of my pocket. The driver-NICK-cross threaded the lug nut when he put the donut on. I SAW him do it; I heard the impact driver screech; I ASKED him about at the time. "It's fine," he said. 15 minutes later at a tire shop they pulled the tire and pointed out the damage. I called Steve's on the spot and they denied it could even happen because their driver was just too professional to make such a mistake. Rude, arrogant and dismissive. I filed a complaint with AAA but it seems if the service say says, "Heck no, we didn't do that," they automatically win. Real supportive, eh? I provided pictures and details and Steve's said 'nope' and yet they prevail. So, to sum it up: Avoid Steve's Roadside Assistance in Toms River; there are plenty of other places that haven't demonstrated poor customer service. Me, I am going to cancel my AAA service. The $75 bucks a year I've paid for 20 years vs the three times I have ever used them culminating in this debacle is proof I've been wasting my money. read more
