These courses were the toughest in the school and caused great stress to a student who had typically done very well in both math and science throughout her school years. Solomon tutored Chloe through the basics of both courses with both a deep understanding of these two subjects as well as his ability to communicate concepts clearly. This was especially important for Physics as it had become obvious to all of us that Chloe's teacher possessed very poor teaching and communication skills. Thus Solomon had to function as Chloe's actual Physics TEACHER as well as her tutor. His demeanor was hugely valuable too as his fine sense of humor and personally-supportive nature transformed the atmosphere of the process into one that was positive and confidence-building. This greatly alleviated much of Chloe's coursework anxiety. In the end, the results spoke for themselves: Chloe's initial C-range grades rose to A-minuses in both courses within one semester, undoubtedly contributing to her eventual college acceptance by Columbia and five other top schools, plus waitlists at Harvard, Yale and Swarthmore. Without Solomon's involvement, I am certain such happy outcomes would not have occurred.

It took me 14 years after my childhood lessons to commit to learning piano again, and then it was incredibly touch to find someone who offered lessons outside of the standard 9-5 work week for a reasonable rate. Not only does Malena offer flexible times for lessons, but her rates are totally feasible, and she's even more flexible now with the option of video lessons. Every time I visit Portland, I could no more miss popping into Roux & Cyr than missing going to the…read morePortland Art Museum. I would so much love to buy everything in this gallery! I'm a professional nature landscape photographer, however, and I don't have enough work in my home for my own work. So although I haven't yet invested in any artwork from Roux & Cyr, I've never felt the owner, Susan, has ever rushed me or ignored me. She's very attentive -- and a great artist in her own right. I couldn't think of someone to better represent the art community than she. My only regret there is never taking an art class from Susan. She told she once had a student who drove up from Boston -- but that would have been a four hour-plus RT drive for me. Now that I live outside of Richmond, Virginia, I don't feel the guilt I once had for not enrolling in a current art class.
