It was my best friend's daughter's bday and I wanted to take her out to do anything she wanted. Surprisingly, I was told that she wanted to take a pottery class and so luckily, I was able to find a kids pottery class at this studio last minute. Alex was the instructor and he did such great job with the kids. He honestly has the perfect temperament to teach kids or anyone else for that matter. His instruction was easy to follow and the kids left with an excitement to learn more.

Took an intro class with my bf, trying something new! It was a cute experience- you get to mold your clay, make a little bowl, then choose a glaze so they can fire it up and get it finished within the next few weeks. My instructor, I think his name was Daniel, was patient, funny and helpful. Thank you for not letting my bowl fall apart lol. A bit expensive, around $60/pp, but it was a whole thing so I think it was worth it. The only thing I didn't like was that shipping is a little expensive.

We signed up for the one hour ceramics bowl class and for $60 I would not recommend it. Our instructor was pretty condescending I would say and was not really helpful whenever we messed up (which is expected to happen when you've never taken a ceramics class before). I left feeling like I did not learn anything and my excitement to learn ceramics was pretty much gone. Also I wish we were involved with the glazing process - that would have been cool to see or do. For the tiny ass bowl we ended up getting, I don't think this class is worth it.

Took a pottery class here. Beautiful, inspiring studio with a great energy. My instructor, Dara, was extremely helpful and easy to follow. I'll definitely be back for more classes!

We had so much fun! Thank you Gayle. You were so kind, patient and helpful. Would definitely recommend as a fun hands on date

Do you see the bottom of this bowl? Those clumps should not be a part of the bottom.

When I saw the work, I was shocked by how sloppy, rushed, and low quality it looked. This was not professional work and not something any business should hand to a customer. I explained that I was unhappy with the quality and asked for my money back because I could not use this canvas for my client. Instead of trying to fix the problem, they refused and kept saying, "This is how we do it," and that they already spent time, labor, and materials on it. They acted like there was nothing wrong with the work at all. What made the experience even worse was the attitude and disrespect. Instead of helping or apologizing, I was told to leave the store. I also took photos of the canvas so people can judge the quality for themselves. I would not recommend this place if you expect professionalism, quality workmanship, or respectful customer service.

Carter Sexton Artist Materials is located in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley within the Valley Village/Studio City area and resides on Laurel Canyon Boulevard/just a beat down from Chandler Blvd and the Laurel Canyon Metro Station for the Orange (aka G) line. It's got lots of fun nooks and crannies with great materials, supplies, service and sales (including 40% off, clearance items and more). It was easy for me to follow a lot of their played out pricing for canvas (10 years in retail, though it's been almost 10 years since I walked away from it and yet still retain so much lol). I ventured into the "Come (On) In" area and discovered some complimentary artist guides, incredible artwork and extra items I was seeking for a sketching event I hosted over the weekend. Love coming in on Saturdays, though it's been several months since I was last in, hoping to change that, check out more of their events, including some great some shows this holiday season like their Medley. I don't have much to submit by their deadline, but highly recommend you do if you're an artist, aspiring artist or creative. They definitely are neighborhood feel with some cool regulars. Caught some warming interactions and references to Cheers (the 80s to early 90s series) between the staff and a really nice returning customer. I'm not sure if Kelli was there when I stopped in, but I've had some greatest response with her in the past online when inquire about things. Everyone is super knowledgeable, mindful and respectful. Ready to assist, but also let you take your time exploring and feeling out all they have to offer. Street parking primarily with a 1hour limit from 8am to 6pm. Some limited spaces in their back alley parking, that I'm sure is super great for their staff/ the Carter Sexton family. Its first come first serve, but you might get lucky. Open from 10am to 6pm Monday through Saturday weekly with some variations for holidays. A must whether a local, passing through or seeking out a small biz to support that does great things for the area, and showcasing a spotlights artists of all walks of lives and ages. Even Bob Ross on display wants you to check out this great supportive Art spot. "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."

While the inventory is fantastic, the real reason we keep coming back is the unmatched customer service. Avi is absolutely wonderful. He is always there with a smile and is incredibly helpful with the kids. He takes the time to listen to what they think they need, and then uses his expertise to offer suggestions that end up working even better for their projects. That kind of personalized guidance is rare! Plus, they offer a student discount, which is a huge bonus for a family with three creative kids. The selection here simply cannot be found at big-box stores like Staples or Michaels. My girls love the variety of Copic markers, Posca pens, and art books. It's also a relief to shop here instead of Amazon because the prices are competitive, but you have the peace of mind that you are buying authentic, high-quality products. The store has a perfect "local shop" charm--it is organized and easy to navigate, yet big enough to have everything you need. Highly recommend!

ARTime BARRO is part pottery studio, part community space, and is a relaxing, chill place where you can unleash the creativity you thought was dead, where your artistic spirit gets to come out to play, if only for just a little bit of time in this crazy world. On a recent weekend, I had the opportunity to take the One-Time Class, which is a one-hour course designed for complete beginners. You get to make two pieces, one by hand at the table and one on the pottery wheel. The class size was small (just 5 people) and we got great 1:1 instruction and guidance from our knowledgeable instructor Max. I've always wanted to try the wheel and was surprised how hard it was to use it but it was such a great experience that I think everyone should try at least once. After you sculpt your pieces, you are invited to come back to hand paint (glaze) your work at no additional cost. You can also have them do a one-color glaze for you, but after I saw all the multi-colored pieces of other folks previous to me, it was no contest to decide that I wanted to color my pieces myself. You have up to 3 months to come back to glaze so it's very doable in anyone's busy LA (corporate) lifestyle. Pricing was very reasonable for such a cool bespoke experience. There are a lot of pottery painting studios (e.g. Color Me Mine) but this is awesome bc you get to make the pottery AND color it later! I've already recommended this place to countless people!
