They helped me with my exchange even though I should have gone back to the original store where I purchased it because they dont sell this item at their store. They not only made an exception for me. Kudos to the store manager and their staff. This store is beautiful and very well stocked. They have an unrealistic amount of product beautifully and artfully arranged and displayed. 3 different staff members asked if I needed assistance while perusing the aisles, just fantastic. Recently Ive been shopping at Dick Blick Santa Monica - everyone chill and helpful. The store closer to me is West LA / but dang , I leave there with a bad feeling. Their attitude is not realistic . Asking for help is an intrusion. it's on aisle 2. what? is this Ralph's ? But that's not enough for me to yelp about. Asking about usage etc - wow! Some more attitude with intentional misdirects, which I wouldn't have caught , if I wasn't a materials nerd. So it's online or Santa Monica for me . Just a mini warning. read more

Usually a solid experience here, but I wanted to share a recent issue in hopes it improves future service. I visited this location two days in a row looking for a specific item. On the first day, I asked a manager about it since it wasn't on the shelf. She told me it was out of stock and suggested I check the website to see when it might return. She wasn't rude, but didn't make any effort beyond that. The next day, after confirming via live chat that the item was in stock (I was told there were 7), I returned to the store. Still, nothing was on the shelf. I showed the chat to a different employee, who actually took initiative and checked the overstock area. Sure enough, she found 8 of the item I was looking for. When I asked the manager about this, she dismissed the chat information as unreliable and blamed theft or loss. But the item was there the whole time. If the other employee hadn't gone out of her way, I would have left again empty-handed. What bothered me most is that when I pointed out that the item was in fact in stock the entire time, the manager didn't respond at all. No acknowledgment. Just silence. The manager either didn't bother to check properly or was too lazy to, which makes me wonder how often customers are told something is out of stock when it's not. Shoutout to the employee who went the extra mile. But management needs to step up and be more thorough in doing their job. read more

I'm visiting from Central NY and someone gifted me a whole 70 set of new pastels so I needed some paper to play with while I'm here. I left with a pad of pastelmat and one large sheet of colorfix sanded. I would have liked to find a package of 20x30cm colorfix because I like the white margins. You guys didn't have that I was told but I'll play with the pastelmat just fine. I'm always up for experimentation so this will be good for me. read more

I love local little art shops. This is not one of them. BLICK is corporate through and through. They do not honor their online pricing (which is significantly cheaper than their in-store pricing). They are friendly enough to help you find things, but don't tell you about the online deals. When you find out later, their customer service is terrible. Request: If anyone has a little art store they love on the Westside of LA, please message me. Pro Tip: Shop online. I hate to say it, but avoid the hassle. What an amazing selection of art supplies. Such a cool place. My son has become interested in painting, and I bought a table top easel and a huge box of assorted acrylic paint. Shout out to my new friend and honest-to-God hero, Carlos C.!! He works in the printing and framing department, and was not only incredibly kind, but also knowledgeable! I had literally no idea what to do when it came to framing and mounting my art piece. So Carlos saved the day!! He guided me through the process, helped make suggestions and gave me great advice as to what size frames would work with the mat windows necessary, what colors would work with my art piece, and he even cut out the mat boards for me!! The store was closing too (I came too late to do much) but he made the time for me, was patient and sweet the entire process, and I want to thank Carlos again so much for rescuing me from my own naïveté!! Great selection of art supplies, good prices, and they have been helpful when I have asked technical questions.

My daughter had a class at CSUN this year and we had a kit ordered or so we thought. Come to find out we actually didn't but when they did deliveries the person helped us purchase one and explained to me on the phone the steps and procedures to get one. They even said they would create one if need be. I leave this review considering when I came on here to comment I was surprised to see a review below about a negative experience about the art kits. It seems they are in the same class as my child and basing it off the language and tone they must of missed the delivery. Even I being a third party as a parent was aware of the delivery dates and it missed it would have to be picked up not shipped. I really hope someone reads my comment and really listens when I say thank you for being patient and kind and I'm sorry if people like this Melinda aren't able to listen and ends up resorting to pointing blame. I am grateful the supplies were put together and made it easier for me to purchase than going on a never ending journey finding them. Thank you again! read more

Every so once in while you have to go out and explore the world around you. Which took me to Blick Art materials in Santa Monica today. I was really impressed with the great selection of colors they had for the Copic markers. And after browsing through the whole store I said this has to be the best selection of art supplies of every type that I've ever been in. It was a wonderful discovery in the world of art. Even though I don't have a creative bone in my body. I started to feel inspired. So I picked out some markers, pencils, and a sketchpad. The people at the front were really friendly despite the other reviews I read. They even offered to signed me up for a discount with just my name and email required. I'm really glad that I signed up for the discount because I was surprised at how much everything came up to be. I mean it wasn't as expensive as the markers on Amazon. But it wasn't a great deal like I get at my local art supply store here in Reseda. But I guess I can't complain since they have pretty good hours and they're open on Sundays. Which I always go to Santa Monica on Sundays because the street parking is free. And I only need to circle the block two times to get the parking space. If it wasn't so hot I could've gotten parking quicker but have to just walk a lot further and I wasn't really willing to do it when it's this hot. All in all I'll definitely come back here again especially if it's on a Sunday, well only on a Sunday. And I'm inspired to refill these art supplies that I bought or take on a new project. read more
