You will be told that meets their SLA and not refunded. 3. Game is only 50mn max. 4. Refs leave early. 5. Player leveling is poor. 6. Players take 5mn shifts so expect to spend 10mn on the bench. All stinky socks does is rent cheap ice, offer poorly managed unattended games where they refuse to disclose participation numbers before the game, then charge people, then make an excuse and fail to refund your money. There has to be a better way. These two guys and their dog pretend to have big company policies while failing to manage the basics of the business. Avoid StinkySocks aka StinkySucks. read more

I am actually having a blast so far in the no-commitment hockey side of this local adult league. I am 35 years old and found this league recently! They are a great group of people and make it easy to get out and have some fun without missing my daily routines the next day from getting body slammed! On the plus side: League is well run. Referees show up. Goalies usually show up. The people who show up to skate are decent folks. On the negative side: It's on the expensive side. Don't get injured if you're not a full time member. For 'non-members," their refund/credit is pretty paltry. Better options with MA Hockey League. read more

Just started playing in this league full time recently. The league is run very well and has some great tweaks to set this apart from other beer leagues in the area. Benches are limited to 10 skaters, and fill-ins are allowed to play if they reserve a spot. Goalies are almost guaranteed to show up. Just one ref is used, and the games are about 45 minutes running time (just right, if you are playing with 10 skaters). A quick but fun skate that is somewhere between pickup and league play as far as the game intensity goes. If you are looking for another night to play or a fun, non-goonish league, then check it out (pun intended). read more

I've been a non committed Skater and goalie now for about 5 months. I got to admit that it is an excellent program, everyone has a great attitude and are always open for instructions, tips and constructive criticism. the only down fall is that there needs to be more rinks and groups out near 495 and Worcester county. other than that it is a great experience and a wonderful group of people. read more

I started with SSH in May as part of their skills program and have subsequently joined 3 leagues within the umbrella of SSH. The skills program was so helpful for me as I was just learning to skate and it has helped me with every part of my game, from simple stopping and effective edge work to understanding offensive and defensive strategy. The leagues are competitive without the knuckle dragging, NHL hopeful, goobers mucking it up. SSH has been very organized and everything they tout (2 goalies every game, effective monitoring each group to make sure Ovechkin isn't sandbagging in a "D" level game.) is accurate so far. I just started playing ice hockey again and found that Stinky Socks is very friendly to novice players like myself. Their D-level games are great for anyone who is just getting started, and the staff and fellow players all seem to be friendly people. You don't get any of the goons who plague other hockey leagues across the area, just a bunch of players who want to have a good, safe game. The skills clinics are also fantastic. The two instructors, Joe and Rich, push you hard, all while encouraging everyone in the group and keeping it fun. Anyone in the early stages of adult hockey would benefit from the clinic and have fun while doing it. read more

I've been playing in this league for years and I have to say there are pros and cons...but the cons have started to tip the scale, not in StinkySocks favor. They have a leveling system which in theory should work. But it doesn't. People play under their abilities for an easier skate (I don't think the players do it just to feel like hero's but the options they have for Level C skates might not be robust), but it makes it difficult for those that aren't as skilled to compete when they are chasing semi pro players around the ice. The refs don't seem to be trained to spot people that are playing below their ability, nor do they seem to want to confront people about it. It's up to the other skaters themselves to hound the league about it and report their peers which makes for bad mojo. People that come to play in lower intermediate skates (D+\C-) are there for a work out and to be SOCIAL: when you are ratting your peers out to the league it sets you up. Don't make us do it, it's YOUR responsibility. However, where's the incentive for them to do something about it when they are making money hand over fist? When they have sold out games, 20 guys, at $28 a pop? (Yes, they raised the price for "premium" games...used to be 20 a game a few years ago.) I've contacted the league numerous times about it and they say they take it seriously, but I don't see much that gets done about it. There needs to be a procedure in place where the referees are empowered to handle this. Until then, I'm looking for other options. read more

So this past weekend proved to be another great weekend of hockey. My team entered the Boston's Best hockey tournament at Quincy Youth Arena run by StinkySocks Hockey and each and every member of my team had a great time. The games were well run, music played in between whistles, two referees per game and score keepers and announcers keeping us all entertained. They were competitive games but we all still know that we were there to play hockey and enjoy the game. As a team we cannot wait till next month to participate in the Spring Breakaway Tournament at the same location run by SSH. read more

Absolutely awful. Stay away. Where do I start? Firstly the "leagues" are populated by people who will take a 4 minute shift, then complain at you if you stay on the ice for 2 minutes. Nobody plays in their division. Go to a D game, and it's exactly the same as a C game. The league has a serious problem with pockets of friends showing up who only want to pass to each other. Stinkysocks try to pride themselves on goalies showing up 97% of the time. I would like to know where they got this stat. It is genuinely 50/50 whether you're going to get 2 goalies every time. This, in the much better MA Hockey league is almost never a problem. The league tries to pride itself on 'no jerks' but if you say you're going to do something maybe the refs should actually try to keep an eye on the guys who idly glide around the opposing blue line for 5 minutes before eventually shifting. On top of this, it's the most expensive league in the area, and the league in which I get by far the least ice time. If something goes wrong in your game that causes you to lose ice time, don't bother getting in contact with the staff: they don't care. It's also getting worse so don't try to get in now thinking it might get better. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother. read more

It's okay. I stopped playing because the price is outrageous for 45 min of play time. The past several times I showed up there was no goalie. The refs don't regulate who is playing anymore. Basically just show up and no one will know who you are, if you paid, or what team your on. The ref may say 1-2 words all game and make no calls. The level of play leaves something to be desired as well. Okay for beginners/ older folk but not very competitive. MA hockey league is where it's at in my opinion. I actually am having a blast so far in the (non commitment hockey ) part of this league. I am 30 years old and found this to be a great group of people looking to get out and have some fun without missing work the next day from getting bodied at the blue line. I never played ice hocey before except for on ponds and bogs and was trying to find a game that was right for me. Peter got back to me within 24 hrs of my email about MY skill level placement and whether this was even a good idea ! He laid everything out perfect for me and gave me his phone # in case i had any more questions. My 1st game. 1st shift. I hook the **** out of someone ( by accident) ..... there was no call. I was already half apologizing when the kid just laughed me off.. " Its all good man... this is pickup... were all here to have fun " . And we just kept playing... just great people. I cant speak about the higher end levels ( A / B ) ... but if ur looking for a fun game with a great group of guys that are there to play not to win , this league has been great for me so far. read more

I am 58 years old and hadn't skated in 40 years. I started up again last year playing once a week for 10 weeks with a group of middle aged guys (35 - 50). After grinding through some painful skates I got the bug and started looking for additional ice team when the 10 week period ended. I found Stinky Socks and have skated as a no commitment skater at the novice level since February 2018. I have found the league in all aspects to be extremely well run; signups and scheduling, conflict resolution, suitable levels of play for all, 2 goalies and refs at every game, no idiots on the ice. I understand that much more skilled players may not share my opinion about the league but it works for me. As my skating and abilities improve I hope to advance to the next level but if not I have allot of fun at the novice level with the skaters I have played with. If you want to call this a "beer league" that's ok with me since I long ago stopped thinking I would play at any level higher than high school. I just passed my two year anniversary with these guys and still have no complaints. Peter (who runs the league) always takes the time out to listen to the players. There almost ZERO goons in this league because it's full of guys WHO WANT TO BE ABLE TO GO TO WORK THE NEXT DAY! I've played up and down the different levels and can tell you that the levels are usually set up the right way. When I started, I was in D (the lowest level) and worked my way up so that now I play an occasional BC level game. The reason it happened is because SSH (LEAGUE AND PLAYERS) did a really good job of protecting me from my own ego. If you want to really improve, the skills sessions for skaters (run by Joe) and goalies (run by Bob) are great. Both these guys know their stuff and the best part is they sincerely want to help you get better. I've met a lot of great guys at all the levels and games and look forward to playing my next 400 or so games with Stinky Socks. read more

Whether you're an experienced player or just starting out, the league provides opportunity and access to learn how to play the game. Hands down the best pick up league in Boston for mens hockey. I really enjoy being able to simply book a spot online and show up to have 2 goalies and a ref to run the game. Their website and online booking system makes it effortless to my busy day to get a skate in just about any day of the week. I've been playing here for a long time and never once had more than 5 on the bench, also have never seen a fight which is nice because I'm old and have to work in the morning! read more

Wouldn't recommend this league to anyone. Horrible communication between league representatives and teams and unless you've been in the league for a few years, there is a "cult" and unwelcoming vibe. Not to mention if your team is made up of all 20 something year olds, you're a target for the league. Absolute joke and a cancer to any adult hockey leagues. read more

Stay far away if you are a serious hockey player. "Leagues" advertised are never full and will often have people who can barely skate. Sometimes there's 1 ref, never 2. Sometimes you'll have a scorekeeper, sometimes you wont. If you sign up for a "league," you'll have to buy one of there terrible jerseys, and you'll never get the number you want. Level of play is skewed as well. Anything listed as B level = C/D level anywhere else. Do not waste your time! Join a legit league somewhere else. read more

I have been in this league for about a year and a half, and I don't have a very good opinion about how the league is run. Goalies sometimes do not show up. Some games are overbooked, and only the ref is there to fix any issues that may come up. My team, which by all means is a C/D team, was kicked out of a C/D league because we were too good. I have been in other C/D leagues before and because stinky socks allows players to choose their own level, the rest of the league players were pretty bad and should not have been in that league. So, no wonder why we were too good. All we got were excuses, we were told to remove certain players, we were told to tone it down, WTF? We chose another league through MA hockey. No problems and competition is where it should be. SSH are all about the money, nothing about the game. read more

I had been playing in this league for almost 5 months and it was great until all of a sudden they started changing ice times, rink locations, and even the days which you were scheduled to skate without so much as an email or a phone call. Pete, who runs the league is terrible. Whenever we put in a request for a temporary skater we never got one so a lot of times were were playing with 6 guys. At one game where Pete was actually skating one of our teammates got crosschecked into the goal so he got up and pushed the guy back and players from the other teams bench jumped onto the ice and went after our guy and get this, Pete suspended our player for life without any disciplinary action towards the other team. Our player didn't even get a chance to tell his side of the story, Pete just decided to remove our guy for life and he didn't get a refund. Also, during the season Pete scheduled our team for all 10:00PM games - the entire season. Talk about spreading the pain around, this guy is a joke, his company is crap. I don't encourage anyone to participate in this. read more
